We got a barn cat!!!
We stayed at a Mentone Vacation Rental vrbo for our annual Cheney Family Reunion. A couple of days into the vacation, we were sitting on the porch and started hearing some meowing. We looked down over the railing, and there was this little cat! She seemed hungry, so we fed her a couple of shrimp. Later in the day, we saw her again, and this time, she came up to us and started rubbing all over us. We wanted to bring her home, but we were nervous she might have worms or parasites. By the end of the vacation, we had convinced ourselves that it was worth it to keep her, since she was so skinny and living under the porch of our vrbo, so we loaded her up into the car. We named her Mentone, after the vrbo we were staying in.
Once we got home, we put her in the garage so she wouldn’t try and run away. As we spent more time with her that night, we started to see that the size of her belly didn’t match her skinny back and hip bones. (2nd picture) We started feeling around and thought we felt movement in her belly. We realized she might be having kittens!
The very next morning, Mentone gave birth! We had to help her a little bit, but she did a good job! At first, she wasn’t a very good mom, but she has gotten a lot better over time.
Now, the kittens are doing great! They are learning to run, play, climb, and hunt, and they are so adorable! (see last pictures☺️)
So that's our barn cat story! Tell us in the comments if you have outdoor cats or if you've ever had kittens!
