Cider is our gal in Purple from Emy’s Fall Litter. Born 11/3/2024, a light blonde color, smaller in size- her expected weight is 40-50, medium to small standard size. She will have a thick and full adult straight coat with possible slight waves.
10 Week Weight 13 lbs, has had Neopar Vax @ 4 weeks, 2 sets of vet administered vaccinations at 6 & 9 weeks, including Bordetella. Last vet checked on Friday 1/10/24 and cleared to go home.

Cider is a cutie and real-life Teddy Bear. She loves to play and is happy keeping herself entertained with lots of toy options- Toys are her most favorite thing and she loves retrieving them with a game of catch. (We are working on returns) She loves to snuggle up with a blanket for sleep and naps, adores attention with belly rubs and hugs. She likes to be with you and enjoys exploring new places with you. Doing an excellent job with going potty in her designated areas and does very well on a strict feeding schedule. She is sleeping in her crate with no fussing or crying and prefers it even for nap time- with the door open-She knows it’s her safe place! She goes running to meet and greet everyone, very friendly-confident-outgoing!

WHAT MAKES HER SPECIAL?
At 4 weeks old in her pictures we noticed Cider’s left eye had tear marks. After flushing with saline and giving it a few days- it seemed to get worse with squinting and not wanting to hold her eye completely open. We contacted the vet and sent pictures. Her assessment at that time was perhaps a littermate scratched the eye playing (as puppies together rough-house), so the decision was to apply antibiotics to help with possible infection/inflamation for 7 days and give the eye time to heal. I then also stopped all advertisement and pictures for her to give her the time she needed.

However, her eye still did not improve as much as expected so she went in for a full exam. At that exam, the vet concluded she has ENTROPION on the lower left eye lid. It’s a condition where the eyelid rolls inward. (Read attached)
The rubbing of the eyelid on the eye caused a very small superficial ulcer on the bottom of the eye. The irritation and pain from the ulcer is why she could not hold her eye open, was rubbing and pawing at the eye, and had light sensitivity. Therefore, to treat the Ulcer- a different type of eye-drop was prescribed to clear the Ulcer and any remaining infection.
After 3 weeks of meds, we are happy to report Cider’s ulcer is gone- she is holding her eye completely open, showing no signs of discomfort or irritation. That issue has been resolved!

WHAT TO EXPECT:
However, the Entropion Remains. Explained by the vet- Cider could outgrow it completely (50% chance). If she does not, surgery will be required to correct the eyelid. It’s a simple cosmetic surgery completed at the time of Cider’s Spay. Our vet recommends having the spay and eyelid repair done together at 6 months of age. By doing both procedures at the same time- it’s more cost effective, both areas will heal at the same time, resulting in less recovery down-time for the puppy and anesthesia only being needed once. Surgery cannot be done until the puppy has grown as the skin will stretch and grow along with her.

In the meantime, as the eyelid may continue to rub- Cider will have to be assessed for any future signs of infection or ulcers. (Symptoms include squinting, not holding her eye fully open, pawing or rubbing the eye, extreme tearing) She does also have slight tear marks daily, but that will be permanent until she outgrows the entropion or has the surgery, which ever may come first.

We do not know if she was born with entropion or if it was acquired after injury like initially thought. As I have looked back on all her pictures from birth - 3 weeks, there was no visible signs until 4 1/2 weeks, which is why I believe this all resulted from trauma, but no way to be proven. The vet also thought maybe the left eye was slightly smaller then the right, but after the Ulcer has cleared- there seems to be no evidence of that.
You cannot see she has entropion without very close-up observation and in no way does it affect her or her quality of life. She is the most spunky, fun-loving girl you could ever want. And I really believe her strong will and personality is exactly what she needs.

SURGERY COST: If you get the Entropion Surgery done at the time of Spay with OUR VET- She quoted $125-150 for the eyelid correction. Her Spay fees are also very reasonable $175-225.

I am covering the cost of EYELID SURGERY by discounting Cider $300 (double the quoted surgery amount). The new owner is obligated to understand that the corrective surgery must be done if required and I will not pay for anything additional. A separate amendment will be completed and agreement signed in conjunction with our original contract stating such.

I WILL BE VERY SELECTIVE IN FINDING CIDER A HOME and ask anyone considering her to research Entropion. You can even ask your vet for future care or surgery cost, if using our local one is not an option for you.
Of course, if the perfect home is not found, she will happily stay with us.Her care is of the upmost importance to me and we have become rather fond of her! 🫶☺️💜.
