-
On this episode of WAYPOINTS, we head deep into the Canadian wilderness, where endless lakes, rivers, and untouched landscapes create one of North America’s most remote and pristine fly fishing destinations — Gangler’s North Seal River Lodge. Joining us is Ken Gangler, a pioneer in the Canadian outfitting industry and the driving force behind one of the most legendary lodges in the North. Located on a private 6-million-acre concession in northern Manitoba, Gangler’s offers exclusive access to world-class fishing for trophy northern pike, lake trout, Arctic grayling, and walleye. We’ll dive into Ken’s journey, the challenges of running a luxury lodge in such a remote and wild environment, and what makes this region so special for anglers seeking adventure. From fly-out fishing opportunities and Canadian Grand Slams to wilderness experiences, conservation efforts, and the unique culture of Gangler’s North Seal, this episode is an inside look at one of the greatest freshwater fishing operations in North America. Whether you’re an experienced pike-on-the-fly fanatic or planning your first northern adventure, Ken shares everything you need to know about the ultimate Canadian fishing experience.

It had been two decades since Program Director .annapurna.tripp visited Chile, a place she used to call home. While things looked different in some ways, the magic of the place held strong.
Kristen spent a couple of days with Premier Lodge Partners Magic Waters Lodge and Rio Palena Lodge, as well as visited with our good friends at Cinco Rios Lodge. As is the custom with most every trip to Patagonia, she noted the guides, cuisine, and lodge settings were nothing short of exceptional!

Waypoints Podcast: EPISODE 67 - CHERYL BASTIAN - Fishing Andros Island, the Evolution of Swains Cay Lodge, and the Challenges of Owning and Operating a Lodge in the Bahamian Out-Islands
-
On this episode of WAYPOINTS, host Jim Klug sits down with Cheryl Bastian, the owner and founder of Swain’s Cay Lodge on Andros Island, Bahamas. As the leader of a 100% Bahamian-owned-and-operated fishing lodge, Cheryl has spent the past 16 years building one of the most well-known and respected operations in the Out Islands. We talk with Cheryl about how she built Swain’s Cay into a premier fishing destination, known for its hospitality, world-class bonefishing, and deep connection to the local guide community. We’ll also discuss the challenges of running a remote fishing lodge, the importance of community partnerships, the unique relationships between lodges and independent guides, and the ongoing debate over DIY fishing regulations in the Bahamas. Whether you’re a seasoned Andros angler or dreaming of your first trip, this conversation delivers valuable insights on the future of fly fishing, conservation, and adventure travel in the Bahamas.
Additionally, Swain’s Cay Lodge is a Premier Lodge Partner and heavily invested in giving back to the Andros community. In less than two weeks, YDCCF will be hosting the third annual Big Yard Bonefish Classic at Swain’s Cay to raise additional funds for Mangrove Cay Park.

If you want to pursue your personal best brown trout, the White River is perhaps one of the world’s most famous brown trout fisheries. The fishery begins below Bull Shoals Dam, which provides cool and oxygenated water for over 100 miles. The White River produces ample food, from scuds to sculpins, allowing trout to grow to trophy-size. The river features long runs, large pools, and numerous riffles that provide exceptional fly fishing opportunities.
Jake will be in attendance at the Atlanta this weekend, January 31 - February 2nd. Come by the Yellow Dog booth to say hello, grab a 2025 catalog, and meet some of our team!

In a perfect world, we would all spend our year globetrotting the world, heading from one fishery to the next and chasing warm weather. While that reality may seem far off, the least we can do is provide you with the information to ensure whenever you are thinking of angling abroad, you have plenty of inspiration at your disposal all year long.
Keeping in mind that some fisheries are always open for business, we put together a month-to-month index of fisheries at their very best for destination fly fishing, allowing you to better plan your next trip abroad, even before the last one ends.
