We are a small 501c-3 non-profit animal rescue. Our mission is to focus primarily on cats and dogs in the Madison County, Kentucky area.
(24)
TLC Animal Refuge takes in unwanted cats and dogs and finds loving homes for them from the primary service area of Madison County, Kentucky. TLC also assists with TNR in Berea, KY, and when able, in other areas of Madison County. TLC is a foster-based organization.
Please report and block the Instagram page if you receive this message! Please don't give click. They ask for $500 to get the account back.
After a whole lot of soul searching, discussions, time, money, and emotional drainage, TLC will be in a dormant status for the foreseeable future. This could be 3 months; it could be much longer. We apologize for having to step back, but we are all emotionally and physically exhausted. This dormancy is needed so the rescue can regroup down the road. (And, those who have asked - yes, this is still part of the equation, but there are valid reasons for the dormancy.)
If you are in search of a dog or a cat in Madison County and surrounding areas, we can suggest the following:
Humane Society - Animal League for Life, based Richmond
Hope for All Pets, Inc. (HAPI), based Somerset
KY Hopeful Paws (dogs only), based Richmond but dogs in fosters all over KY, TN, OH
The Danville Cat Lady
Itty Bitty Kitty
Save Our Strays
Madison County Animal Shelter
Estill County Animal Shelter
Rockcastle County Animal Shelter
Pulaski County Animal Shelter
Garrard County Animal Shelter
Jessamine County Animal Shelter
If you are looking to rehome a pet, or have been caring for a stray but it is unable to stay with you, we would like to ask you to make these attempts and considerations, please.
The considerations: 2022 has been a record year all over the country for strays, owner surrenders, pets being returned to rescues. We don't have an answer or a specific "why." All rescuers understand the economy is on a downturn, so maybe its become too costly to care for the pet; perhaps you or a family member have become very ill and are unable to provide care. We know there are a lot of valid reasons.
If you are moving, do your best to find somewhere that allows for your type of pet. If you do not have equipment you need to make the move (carriers/crates) reach out to one of the above rescues or shelters. They may have something you can borrow (or have).
If possible, do some networking. Ask friends, co-workers, family members if they would be interested. If its someone you don't know well, if they rent, ask how long they've lived at current location and check with their landlord to be certain the type of pet (for dogs, check for breed restrictions) is allowed. Whether they own their own home or rent, if they have other pets, check with their veterinarian to make sure pets are up to date on vaccines and are spayed/neutered.
If you've already exhausted that possibility, ask any of the rescues above if they can do a courtesy post for you. Adopt-A-Pet and rescueme.org are also resources you can directly list your pet for adoption.
We apologize for having to step back, but we are all emotionally and physically exhausted. This dormancy is needed so the rescue can regroup down the road.
With all our love,
TLC Animal Refuge Volunteers
Boochie is the most fun guy I've seen in a long time! He came from a family who loved all their pets - but they had 62!!!! They did what was best for the critters and surrendered them to rescue partners.
Boochie is about 15 #, is great with other dogs of all ages and sizes (though sometimes he will warn them off while he is eating - which is fair! I don't want anybody sneaking a bite off my plate either!) He's finally learned cats are for being friends, not for chasing.
He would love a home with another fun dog - one who he can finish learning that people are pretty cool. One who will show him how your house works with going outside to your fenced yard and coming back in - he's already pretty good at that and does his best if his foster is late to use potty pads.
He is fully vetted, up to date on vaccinations and preventatives. Heartworm and tick-borne disease negative.
Boochie does have a "but." With so many dogs at his home, he did not get a lot of cuddles and pets - so, he's not a big fan of being touched. Yet. He absolutely loves to follow his foster around every room. When its bedtime, he lets her know, and prefers to sleep on a dog bed under her raised bed. When its TV time, he will curl up on the floor next to the couch. Even though offered, he has never jumped on the couch or the bed.
This means, that leash walking and cuddles may take a long time. Or even never - though he will provide the right home with joy! He loves to dance (when he's excited, or all on his own because he's cute). He takes treats - dude seriously loves him some string cheese - like a gentleman. Once he settles, he will give your hand kisses or surprise you with a nudge on the back of the knee.
Boochie needs someone who will lovingly understand his quirks, and be 100% patient and okay with those quirks for his life.
If you have a fenced yard and know you are the perfect fit for this little guy who just wants to provide joy on his terms, please complete our adoption application. A volunteer will review as soon as possible.

We've still been on hiatus and no-intake, but sometimes stuff happens.
Riley (Photo is comments) is in need of a forever, or foster until/to adopted, home. She's a super friendly, outgoing, 7 year old lab mix, who loves kids and people of all sizes. For being seven, she is very energetic and would likely love someone who likes to go for long walks, nature hiking on leash - just an active family.
She is wonderful with any other dog - big, little, old young. She should not be around cats or other small furry or feathered critters.
She is fully vetted, heartworm and tick borne disease negative, up to date on all vaccines and preventatives.
Please share - and if you think your family is her family, please complete this application https://forms.gle/mEdhc6ePcM9zUe2L6

Vynn is a 4 year old German shepherd mix who has lived with the same family her whole life. She is wonderful with young children and very affectionate. She gives great hugs by wrapping her leg around yours. She is house trained, great in a car and on a leash, and good with most other dogs. She has issues with some other female dogs but has been around dogs of every shape and size her entire life since the family fosters animals as well.
Vynn has been getting less predictable with the cats the last couple years and sadly the family has decided it would be best for her and the other animals in the house if Vynn were to find a home with no small animals.
Vynn loves to hike and will stay with you off leash. Please let us know if you think Vynn would be a good fit for your family
Clover knows sit, shake, down. She's a good cuddle dog. She's energetic and probably needs a big yard, one with a tall fence because she can jump a 4 ft chain link fence. She likes antler chews. She loves toys and is good with other dogs and loves to play. She has not really been around cats. She adores kids and is very good with them.
Clover is microchipped and crate trained. She is up to date on her vaccines and heartworm medication she is mostly house trained but still needs consistency.
Lucky is healing nicely - we just have to get his stitches the rest of the way out. He is ready to find his forever home.
He’s getting around well - jumping from floor to couch to his favored spot on a very closely short dresser. He’s is still hesitant, so a home where he can have confidence building surfaces (no throw rugs) is a must.
We can only guess at his age - young adult, around 3 years. He tested negative/negative for FELV/FIV, we neutered him same day as amputation (triple ouch kind of day for this
boy), his FVRCP and rabies done as well as his microchip. He’s been dewormed and flea/tick treated as well.
He is friendly, loves some neck pets and getting more comfortable with more frequent attention.
We will accept applications and look for the best fit for his personality.

Today is animal lover Betty White's 100th Birthday! We say is because this is a woman worth celebrating - forever! Her joy in life, her gift for her chosen career, and her passion for animals give us all something to strive for.
TLC cares for many dogs and cats, helping who we can when we can. We currently have several long-term fosters who have needed additional medical care and extended supplies.
Please help us celebrate Betty's birthday and reach our goal of $500 to off-set some of these built up costs.
P.S. We chose an older photo of Ms. White with several of her fur-kids. All shapes and sizes - and who doesn't love a dog with a lobster costume!?

Gimbli has been a beloved family pet since he was a pup. Unfortunately his human's circumstances became tumultuous so he is looking for a permanent place to land.
GImbli will be 6 this summer, weighs around 75 #, and is somewhere between a couch potato and the most playful puppy in the world! He loves to play, go for walks, or just sit down and watch a movie with you...he even lets you pick!
He's grown up around small children and is great with any age, and any adult. Inside cats he has not much opinion on, outside, they might be fun to chase with no intent to catch.
He gets along well with other dogs, but one his size and play level is best. He gets overstimluated with too many dogs around.
Once he settles, he will walk pretty well on a leash, but it could still use improvement. He is house-trained, will use a dog door to a securely fenced yard. He also loves his crate and has no problem going in with "kennel please" as his cue.
Gimbli is neutered, microchipped, up to date on all vaccines and preventatives.
If you feel your family would make a great forever home for him, please complete an application. A volunteer with review and get with you as soon as possible.

Boris is a gentle soul who would love to find a family to call his own. He's about 4 years old and so friendly and warm.
He's been fostered with children from elementary thru high school aged as well as adults. He does great on a leash and is crate trained. While he does get along with other dogs, it would be best for him to be the only dog in the household.
Boris is neutered, tested negative for heartworm and tickborne diseases. He is up to date on vaccines and is microchipped. His adoption fee is $200.
All adoptions and inquiries are preceded with an application. Please complete and a volunteer will review as soon as they're able. Approved applications are sent to the foster for final approval and contacting the chosen family.

Kyla is an independent girl who loves playing with other dogs. She enjoys the freedom of exploring where she can. She's especially aware and kind to older dogs.
She has been around children from ages 3-12, as well as both men and women and done great. He's had minor cat exposure.
ABOUT THE LITTER:
Born 10/3/2021, our rescue was asked by an older gentleman whose dog population got beyond what he could take care of. These puppies come from a safe a loving home, and are a terrier/chihuahua mix. Mom weighs about 10 #, dad less than 20, so it is unlikely they will be very big.
All of our dogs are spayed/neutered, microchipped, tested for Heartworm and Lyme/Lyme related conditions, dewormed, flea/tick preventative and up-to-date on age appropriate vaccinations.
Our adoption fee is $300. Please complete our adoption application.
https://forms.gle/FjwpAEZWXWdj8f7DA
All applications are reviewed and approved apps are forwarded to fosters for review and contact with potential adopter. We approve and place based on the best family fit for the puppy's personality.

Meet Rip!
This guy doesn't mind being independent, but loves to tear it up with his littermates, though he does get a little bossy with them! Truly enjoys his own dog bed and is starting to play with dog toys more and more.
He has been around children from ages 3-12, as well as both men and women and done great. He's had minor cat exposure. He doesn't even throw too much of a fit when given a bath.

Meet Hopie
Hopie is a sweet girl who absolutely LOVES to play! She was left at a store as a single puppy and has been with same foster since.
She has grown (she is roughly 5 months now) with older and younger dogs; big and little; and cats of various ages and sizes to keep her in line!
She is fully vetted (spayed; has had 3 DHPP and rabies; is microchipped; has been kept up with deworming, flea/tick/heartworm prevention). She DOES have an adoption fee of $300 and an approved application is required. We do our best to match the puppy to the family that fits them the best.

Venus is a lovely young lady - just had her first birthday. She was returned through no fault of hers (her dad lost his living situation). She is crate trained, does absolutely amazing with other dogs. Cats indoors she seems fine with.
She would make someone an amazing hiking partner and love of your life.
She is fully vetted (spayed; Up-to-date on vaccines; is microchipped; has been kept up with deworming, flea/tick/heartworm prevention). She DOES have an adoption fee of $200 and an approved application is required. We do our best to match the dogto the family that fits them the best.

Igor is a very special boy. He came from a place where there were over 40 dogs who were fed, but were not socialized. He wants so much to be loved, but he's still a little concerned about it.
While he is not special needs, he does need special care. A home with either no other dog, or a dog who is calm and will allow Igor to take treats, get pets, and attention.
He does know his name, he will approach when called and will take a treat gently from the hand. He needs a person with patience, time, kindness and love - he will be an amazing companion and will likely enjoy long walks with a leash
Igor is fully vetted: neutered, up to date on vaccines and rabies, flea/tick and heartworm/deworm preventatives on board. He is also microchipped.
He does require an approved application - and in his case, we are requiring a physically fenced yard (4 foot chain link or higher - he does not try to escape, this is for his own sense of security).
If you would like to talk more about him, suggestions for helping him, etc., please complete an adoption application. A volunteer will review as soon as possible and if approved, his foster will reach out.

Little Wilbur looks playful here, but he is struggling for his life. He suddenly lost his brother and this little guy is trying to hold his own. ADOPTED!!! Can't believe we didn't list Trinity! Trinity is the sweetest, estimated 3-year-old, chihuahua mix, girl who absolutely will love her person! She wants to be by you, and will even stick pretty close when walking around the yard (once she knows where she is). She does really well on a leash, too. She came from an environment with too many critters and not enough time, so being with a family who can dedicate to her would be awesome. She can ABSOLUTELY be around other dogs; she loves to play with them. Cats is probably not a good idea, unless your cat is super dog savvy and will put her in her place. She is fairly well puppy pad/outside potty trained, but as with any new transition, will need frequent trips outside to help her establish the where she should go. She does show some signs of separation anxiety - she will bark when her foster leaves (but does stop quickly) and will bark in sheer exuberance with the foster gets home. No destruction is noticed with her anxiety. She should have toys that are more like chews: antlers, kongs, etc. She truly believes that stuffies are for finding the squeaker and killing it. To protect her, stuffed animals probably not a plan. A dedicated family to walk with her is a must. She can easily scale a 4-foot chain link fence. A privacy fence is likely okay. She doesn't go anywhere - just to where her person is! :) We're straight up when it comes to telling you the good and the work on with our fur fosters! :) By the way, she loves to sleep under the covers with you. Unfortunately her foster had a brain cramp and deleted still photos. This is a short clip of her outside a couple of weeks ago. (She is fully grown and about 8 pounds.)
ADOPTED!!!! Trinity is looking for an agility partner! Smart, fun, sweet and only a little bit funny looking with those bat ears! She is full vetted, negative for heart worm and tick born diseases, microchipped and has recently been learning what dog doors are for! She gets along great with other dogs and cats. Does well with kids too. She is very loyal and loving, but she could Still use some positive reinforcement training. Please PM is for an application
Meet JC’s litter! These little cuties, Sneaker, Pepe, and Fern, are right about 4 weeks old. They’ve got some time to grow yet, but TLC has adult cats ready to go to forever homes and many kittens nearly ready for their vetting! Keep us in mind if you’re considering added a feline companion to your home.
Patches is in a "foster to adopt" home. This beautiful kitty is Patches. She is a 10 year young front declawed girl. She is in need of a foster or purrever home (in the Richmond/Lexington area) very quickly! She is best as an only kitty.
