Journey's End Animal Sanctuary Journey's End is a unique sanctuary for unwanted animals. Animals live out their lives in compatible groups in a secure, loving environment.

There are no cages and no euthanizing (except for medical reasons). There is an emphasis on providing them a high quality of life, with ample chances to play and interact with staff members, volunteers, and visitors. Unfortunately we are not taking on any more animals since we are at what the county considers to be our limit.

Bobby is feeling cool and comfy in his room today, but that was not the case a couple of weeks ago. We had issues with the a/c in his area of the house and we moved him temporarily to a room where it was possible to install a window unit. Bobby is blind so taking him out of his familiar space was difficult for him but necessary while we waited on parts for the repairs. That’s all behind us now, but the repairs were costly and we could use your help. Unfortunately, it is not possible to donate right here on our page but at the top of our page there is a link to our website and it is very easy to donate from there.
We appreciate everyone who has supported Journey’s End through the years and as we continue caring for Bobby and all of the other animals, the staff is grateful for all of you and the love and concern you have for everyone who resides here. 🦮🐈‍⬛🐏🐐🐗❤️

None of the dogs at Journey’s End enjoy fireworks but Louise and Junior are especially sensitive to the noise, and the thunderstorm earlier today just added to their nervousness. So as the neighborhood gets revved up for celebrating, they both have retreated to their safe spaces for the evening. Rest assured, they will be checked on as the night progresses, and fingers are crossed that we all get a little sleep when the parties are over. 🤞

We hope everyone enjoys celebrating Independence Day tomorrow and remembers to make a safe space for your fur-babies when things get noisy. As you can see, we dressed up for the occasion, and while some enjoyed it, others only tolerated it and some just didn’t get it. 😻
Happy 4th of July! 🇺🇸💥

Update: The alfalfa found a home.

If anyone can use a bale of compressed alfalfa, we have one here that was donated but unfortunately, we cannot give it to our sheep. Feel free to come pick it up. We will have someone available to assist tomorrow afternoon. Thanks to everyone who thinks of us when they have a surplus of food and supplies.

Mama Cat, on the left, does not like having her picture taken but for Mother’s Day she tolerated it. 😼 She is called Mama Cat because she came to Journey’s End as a mama with her feisty son Henry, on the right. She’s still stuck with him but most days he doesn’t pester her too much. 😸
Happy Mother’s Day to all moms, whether you have people-kids or fur-kids. 😻

Dear Friends,
The staff of Journey’s End is sorry to announce that our Founder, Florence Thuot, has passed away at the age of 96, due to natural causes. She was in the hospital, with close friends nearby, and her passing was quiet and free from pain.
We know this news comes as a shock to many of you. Most were not aware of her advancing age and diminishing health. She remained committed to the life she had made for herself at the sanctuary and her devotion for the animals lived strong until it was no longer possible for her to actively take part in the responsibilities and decisions regarding the care of the dogs, cats, and assorted farm animals for whom she provided a home.
The staff is prepared to remain at Journey’s End and carry on the legacy that Florence began more than 40 years ago. The support and assistance you all have provided over the years is what has kept hundreds of unwanted animals out of harm’s way and while some fared better than others, we are a united front when it comes to the animals who call this place home and we will still need your help to provide them with food, supplies and veterinary care. Journey’s End has had its share of ups and downs over the years but the current staff has made numerous improvements and is committed, heart and soul to the wellbeing of each and every animal who resides here.
Unfortunately, at this time the staff has not been informed of a date for a celebration of life for Florence but information will be passed along when it becomes available.
We are grateful for all of you and everything you do for Journey’s End and hope that you will think of Florence often and keep her and all of the beloved fur babies close to your hearts. 💕

Hope it’s a sweet day. ❤️😻

Follow-up to Zoe burying the toy and getting a dirty face, is Stimpy digging it up and running away with it. He thinks he’s a real hunting dog! 👀

No groundhogs here, but Zoey is practicing her burying skills and doesn’t care if she gets her face dirty!

With the assistance of a skilled volunteer, the kitchen/office cats now have the pleasure of venturing out of the house a little. Henrietta thinks it’s purr-fect! If you look closely, you can see Fifty cautiously checking it out. 🐾

This is Socks, one of our cat house cats, and his new year hit a snag, when he was rushed to the ER after a staff member noticed that he was making strange sounds and having tremors. His condition was touch and go for a couple of days, with a body temperature so low it wouldn’t even register, and bloodwork showed issues with his liver and kidneys. His blood pressure was high and it took some time to get him stabilized. He spent almost 4 days in the hospital and lived up to his name, after his legs were shaved to accommodate an IV, and blood could be drawn. We did not think we would be bringing him home.
Toxicity was the diagnosis.
We had treated all the cats for fleas the day before, and we used NexGuard instead of our usual brand of treatment, and Socks was the only one who had this type of reaction. He remained lethargic and his body temperature would not come up and he had no desire to eat until the morning of the third day, and we are relieved to say that he is home now and on his way to making a full recovery.
His hospital stay, which also included X-rays resulted in a large bill of almost $5000.00.
The hospital contacted the company who makes NexGuard and they payed a portion of the bill but we are still monitoring him and administering meds three times a day. If you would like to help us recover the cost of this unexpected illness our website is available for donations. https://www.journeysendsanctuary.info/donate-online
We are overjoyed that Socks is still with us and he is back to his usual sunny self and doesn’t seem to mind that he looks like he is actually wearing socks! 🧦🧦
Welcome home, Socks! 2024 is giving you a happy new year after all.
