Miss Guinne is what some people would call a “hyper” dog. Dogs need boundaries and everyone loves to turn the dog on and hype them up but when do you ever practice turning them off? If that answer is I don’t know or never, I’d practice an off switch more than the on switch. Most dogs the on switch comes pretty naturally especially with Guinne the Setter mix!

Reggie on his walk today with Zoë’s dog Kai!

Walks are a great way for your dog to get out and practice their leash walking and socialization while you’re busy working, running errands, etc.

Reggie here (in typical Cattle Dog fashion) is reactive on leash, especially to cars and other moving objects. Sounds like a Cattle Dog huh?! On his walks we are working on building more neutrality to the things that trigger him!

One of the many responsibilities we take on when we bring a pet home is their grooming care. Depending on the breed there may be more or less to do, but the basics usually involve nails trims, brushing, and a bath every so often. Many people complain that their dog loves water but not getting a bath, so let’s cover some basic tips to help make this a more positive experience for both you and your dog:

- First leash them up and practice getting them comfortable getting in and out of the bath tub. You can use their food or some yummy treats for this! Then try turning the water on and repeating this step so they get familiar with the tub and the flowing water but not getting wet.

- Once they’re in, use their food or treats to reward them for staying in and being still! If you have an extra rowdy dog and need help, you can always use their leash to tether them to something, but ideally we want to get them comfortable enough that they’ll stay in on their own!

- Make the washing process into a little massage! You can use calming touch while lathering them up with soap to encourage calm and show them that the bath actually feels super good! Also make sure you’re using water that is a comfortable temperature for your dog.

- If you’re really struggling there’s no shame in finding a groomer instead! Just make sure you do your research and check reviews!

Zoë is beginning to plan her dog walking schedule so we are putting out feelers to see who is interested!

Dog walks allow client dogs to practice their loose leash walking and get out and about to see the world for some socialization! Socialization is often emphasized during puppyhood but it’s an ongoing part of your dog’s life! Structured walks like this are a great combination of both mental and physical exercise for our dogs.

In situations where dogs live in the same neighborhood or relatively close, we would like to coordinate so they can be walked as a pack. In this case, these dogs automatically will get to practice neutrality around other dogs on the walk as well!

Please drop a comment below if you’re interested in getting on the schedule for this service starting in December!

Welcome Jack!

Jack is an 8 month old Belgian Malinois! He is here for a board and train to learn how to chill and how to harness his drive into more positive outlets (such as play). He’s learning how to interact more appropriately around dogs and how to feel more confident around new people. These dogs are amazing but (like any dog) if their needs aren’t being met they’ll find their own fun when left to their own devices and for this breed in particular, fun means biting stuff so you better watch out! 🤣 Choosing a breed and temperament that is well-suited for your lifestyle is so important in order to set you and your dog up for success!

Jack is already settling in great and we can’t wait to see how he grows!

Meet Pepper, one of our newest day school students!

Pepper came to us because her boisterous energy was too overwhelming at her previous facility. She is a young, friendly, happy-go-lucky Lab x Bulldog mix who can have trouble containing her excitement at times! This is perfectly normal for a young dog- they just need direction and guidance to ensure that they are successful! We are happy to have her here!

E-collars get a lot of hate but when used responsibly they can open up your dog’s world and keep them looking as enthusiastic as ever! ❤️

These tools are great to give an extra safety net for off-leash fun. Ideally you don’t want to be using the collar, just having your dog wear it for those *just incase* scenarios. Giving your dog the ultimate freedom to run, sniff, and explore is so worth it!

Big changes coming soon‼️

For all current clients - please don’t hesitate to ask if you have any questions or concerns!

Essentially training services will continue with the addition of group classes, boarding will be replaced by in home sitting, and day school will be replaced by adventures during the day (your choice of if this is done solo or with a pack)!

We are working on securing a space for our socialization group class and absolutely cannot wait to be able to offer this service to current and new clients. ❤️
