FIREWORK ALERT!! BE PREPARED!!!
There are several towns across the Cape that are having firework displays this weekend, so please be prepared and take necessary precautions.
This is the list I have so far.....
Dennis - Sunday Night
Yarmouth - Saturday Night
Barnstable/Hyannis - Saturday Night
~Get Anxiety Medications from your veterinarian if necessary
~Get your all natural calming remedies prepared. Normally recommended to start before an incident so they are already in the relaxed, calm state.
~Check your fencing and be sure it is all secured EVERYTIME YOU LET THE DOGS OUT!
~Be sure ALL pet IDs are on and updated-cats and dogs
~Be sure dog license is this years and on collar
~Make sure microchip information is up to date
~Get a radio for the area your dog is kept and play soft, calming music for the weekend.
~Turn the TV on
~Have fans or the AC on to muffle the noise and to keep cool.
~Get out your Thunder Shirt-these work amazing for many pets, but not all. Can be purchased at Hot Diggity, Petsmart, Petco and Agway.
~Have a plan for when you are not home the next few days of where your dog will be and things you can do to comfort them.
~Some dogs like to hide in a closet as this feels safe-put a nice blanket or dog bed in the closet and leave it open for your pet to go in.
~Some love a crate, a box or laundry basket to climb into
~Keeping your pets on a leash during this time to keep them safe. Even if your dog is under voice control it is a good idea to leash them as they may be scared off by fireworks or other loud noises.
-Leave your pets home in the comfort of their own home! Please don't take your pets to firework displays. It is very rare that animals enjoy fireworks.
It is our job to be responsible pet owners and keep our pets safe. Hundreds of dogs go missing during fireworks every year.
Every year animals run off after being scared by fireworks and some never make it home.
If you need advice or other tips on keeping your pets safe during fireworks please feel free to contact me. We just want your pets to be safe.
Please refrain from setting off fireworks if you do not have a permit to do so. The fireworks being set off this weekend are town displays.
Fireworks are traumatic to so many including our Veterans who fought for our freedom in this country, our pets and our wildlife. Yes, wildlife. Many are unaware of the trauma fireworks have on our wildlife especially those who are at our wildlife centers and with wildlife rehabilitaters. They are already in a very stressful situation and when you add the terror of fireworks we lose a lot of these animals.
Please Be Safe, Be Considerate, Be Respectful & Be Responsible.
