CONGRATULATIONS to sweet Pilsner who found her fur-ever home today!!

Pilsner is the last of the 6 "beer kittens" who were born 3/30/24 to a feral mom cat that came to us with much hair loss from ringworm, was a great mom cat & was treated for several illnesses, recovered, & was TNVR'd. Pilsner & her litter mates had a rough start with recurring Upper Respiratory Infections, but recovered beautifully! After nearly a full year in foster care, Pilsner now has her very own family of 4 hoomans, a senior dog friend, & a new 5 year old kitty sister!

Happy tails sweet girl!!

** PLEASE SHARE ** FOSTER NEEDED **
Today we were contacted by a shelter in Maryland to tell us that a pair of Siamese cats with microchips registered to us had been surrendered to them. We do not yet know why they were surrendered, but while we work on finding out more information we need to secure foster placement for these beautiful, 4 year old sister seal point Siamese cats. Their rescue names were Stevie & Nyx. (UPDATE 3-6-2025: they were surrendered due to the adopters moving where pets are not allowed. 😞 No behavioral nor health issues reported.)

The first 3 pictures were taken while in rescue in 2021. The last picture was taken on 3-5-2025 at the shelter in Maryland.

FUN FACT: DID YOU KNOW... Seal point Siamese cats appear to get darker with age because their fur color is temperature-dependent, meaning the colder areas of their body produce more melanin (pigment), causing their points (face, paws, tail, ears) to darken as they mature and their body temperature slightly decreases in those extremities; essentially, the cooler areas become darker while their warmer body stays lighter in color.

Key points about this phenomenon:

Genetic mutation:
This color change is due to a genetic mutation called the "Himalayan gene" which affects melanin production based on temperature.

Kitten development:
Siamese kittens are born mostly white and develop their color points as they grow older and their extremities cool down.

Environmental impact:
While not as significant, even room temperature can slightly influence the darkness of their points.

Looking for a patient, pet-free, and child-free foster home or adopter for a special kitty!

Meet Brie, a gentle and loving 4 year old sweet cat who’s been in foster care for over a year. Brie was rescued from living outdoors and was pregnant at the time of being rescued. She gave birth to 5 adorable kittens who all found their fur-ever homes, and now she deserves a forever home where she can truly thrive. Brie is incredibly sweet and enjoys sitting beside you for pets and even belly rubs—but only in a calm, quiet environment. Loud noises and sudden movements startle her, and she prefers to be the only pet in the home.

Because she needs a very specific type of home, finding the right match has been tough. But we know the perfect person is out there! If you or someone you know is looking for a loyal, affectionate companion and can provide a peaceful, stable environment, please reach out. Brie is so ready to find her person! ❤️

**FOSTER NEEDED** Yesterday we got a very upsetting message from a local shelter that the adopter of Ambrosia (left) & Jazz (right) from the "apple" litter, who were adopted from us in 2022 (kitten picture below), wants to surrender them, along with another young adult cat they got in 2023, supposedly due to someone's allergies/medical condition in the home. We really do not want to see these babies who have never been separated turned into the shelter, but we do need a foster for them ASAP in order to take them. Is anyone willing to foster these now 3-year old sisters???

To apply to foster, download a foster application at www.purrsandwhiskers.org/foster and email the completed form back to [email protected]

🚨 PLEASE SHARE: Kitten Season is Coming — Fosters Needed! 🚨

Snow may be on the ground now, but early spring and summer bring an overwhelming number of kittens into shelters & rescues, and we URGENTLY need foster homes to save lives! We're looking for fosters to be "at the ready" when we're contacted about found kittens.🐱💛

Fostering is temporary, typically until they're adopted (unless another foster is lined up), but the impact is forever. By opening your home, you help give tiny, vulnerable kittens a chance to grow strong and find loving families.

✨ We provide: Food, supplies, & medical care
🏡 You provide: A safe space & lots of love

🐾 Whether you can bottle-feed newborns or care for playful older kittens, we will have a foster match for you!

📩 DM us or visit www.purrsandwhiskers.org/foster to apply today. Every foster home means another life saved! 🙏

❗️ For the safety of rescue cats & your personal/resident pets, all pets in the home must be up to date on annual exams & core vaccinations.

And this is why we highly recommend for ANNUAL bloodwork for cats, especially ages 7 and up! Please request for your vet to run an annual "Senior Screen", which usually includes a full blood panel & urinalysis.

The serum (top part of a blood sample after being spun to separate into 3 layers: serum, white blood cells & platelets, & red blood cells), is icteric or jaundice (yellow in color = abnormal), meaning increased production of bilirubin and the liver isn’t processing it correctly. This indicates some liver function issues or disease along with some other possible issues. It is a good thing they caught this before the cat was symptomatic... if they waited for the animal to present as jaundiced it could have been too late to help.
