Simone and Blaze's puppy ❤️ He doesn't have a name yet, so we call him Little Dude. He's positively the biggest collie puppy ever!
:UPDATE: The puppy is doing really well. He is absolutely HUGE. I will post photos soon!
Well this certainly was a surprise.
Animal husbandry has been a part of my entire life. So when Simone surprised me with this little nugget I was SHOCKED.
I went out to the barn this morning to do barn chores as usual, I hear this noise. It seriously took me aback. Clover has chosen to room with Simone the past few months so when I heard the mewing, my brain couldn't register what I was hearing! I was just seeing a blur of long sable fur.
Backtrack 3 months ago when Blaze first got here at 7 months of age. Bijou immediately went into season and the 2 lovebirds had a rendezvous which sadly didn't produce any puppies. I was hopeful but doubtful given Blaze's young age.
Two weeks after Bijou and Blaze's love affair ended, Simone went into season. After their successful pairing, I obviously wasn't expecting anything. 62 days later, Simone never acted pregnant, looked pregnant, nor felt pregnant.
However... 68 days later, this little sable boy popped into the world. (my collies are typically pregnant 59 to 62 days TOPS)
So I rushed and set up the whelping box, towels and the pen inside. I've had my eye on Simone to see if any more are coming, but for the last couple of hours there doesn't appear to be.
Never say never.
