Meet the Staff Monday!💜

Owner and operator Brittany Harvey grew up on a ranch in NY where she helped raise and train cutting horses.
She pursued her love for the cutting horse by moving to TX, receiving an equine studies degree all while learning the ins and outs of the cutting/quarter horse world. Following graduation she went on to obtain a degree in veterinary technology and has now been a licensed veterinary nurse since 2016.

She has spent the last 8+ years running anesthesia, working in sports med and continuing her knowledge in all aspects of equine veterinary medicine.

Brittany & her husband Travis began Harvey Equine Services after realizing a need for this service in the community. Whether it be post operative, injury or illness we would love to work with you and your veterinarian to help your equine partner in any way that we can!

Yes we treat eyes and yes we will administer chemotherapy! About 45 days of aggressive treatment of IMMK under the direction of one of our veterinarians. We are so glad this horse did so well!

Our barn favorites! With the frequent changes in weather lately make sure to check your horses water consumption!

⭐️Always offer fresh clean water- the average horse drinks 10 gals per day
⭐️ Offer an additional bucket with electrolytes, equitea, a couple handles of grain. Anything to help increase your horses water intake if you notice that it’s not sufficient or there’s significant changes in temperatures
⭐️Keeping horses hydrated in this heat will help prevent impaction colics. ⭐️

Sunday sunrise groom session! Glow up one day at a time. 🔥 You will find a plethora of horses rehabbing with us for different reasons. We always provide grooming services, exercise plans and proper nutrition to establish a healthy coat, hooves, weight, etc. Each horse receives personalized care and a personalized plan!

Who’s hitting the gym this morning? 💪
HES is, or at least our horses are!! 🤣

We offer services to help stretch and strengthen your horse during their rehab stay.
Some rehab modalities we use to help strengthen the core, build muscle (improve topline) and increase balance and mobility is equiband systems (as shown), hill work, ground poles/cavalettis, balance pads, carrot stretches, etc..

🌟Carrot stretches and abdominal strengthening exercises are a part of our rehab plan for all post op colic sx patients🌟

Happy National Farrier’s week to our great team of farriers! Farrier Aaron McAbee Apf has gone above and beyond to help our horses. Here’s just a few of the horses Aaron has helped at Harvey Equine Services. While not every horse we get in needs corective shoeing a large majority do due to soft tissue injuries, etc. and Aaron has done a great job with them. Our farriers, vets and team work together to make the best plan with the horses needs at the forefront!

The Fourth of July is almost here, and many horse owners are concerned about how their horses might react to loud fireworks. 🎆

In the graphic below are some tips to keep your pets and equine companions safe during the festivities.

If your horses are staying out overnight, now is a good time to check fencing and look for any hazards like rocks, branches, or holes that could lead to injury if an animal starts running. If you have a high level of concern about your horse's response, consult your veterinarian about the appropriateness of calming agents and sedatives in advance.

No matter what your plans are, please remember to practice safety and be considerate of the people and the animals living around you so everyone may enjoy the celebration.

What measures have you taken to reduce fire risks in your barn? 🧯

According to the National Interagency Fire Center, in 2024 there have been 16,940 reported wildfires in the U.S. to date. As we head into the hottest time of the year, make sure your farm has a fire prevention plan and an evacuation strategy in place to keep both horses and people safe.

Check out the graphic for ten fire prevention measures to get you started on the right track to a safer facility. This list is not meant to be exhaustive and we invite you to contact your local fire department and your veterinarian for guidance on designing a prevention and response plan tailored to your specific situation.

Barn fires are the number one local emergency affecting agricultural facilities. They can cause horrific injuries and kill more horses than any other type of disaster, so being prepared is only in your best interest!

We have been nebulizing A*M to one of our own personal horses with IAD and have seen some significant improvements; decreased nasal discharge, increased exercise tolerance, improved recovery rate. This may be something to consider talking to your veterinarian about if you have a horse dealing with respiratory issues. This biologic is also used in joints!

It’s Foal Friday! ✨✨
These kids are growing up and learning important life skills. While it’s important to let young horses be horses, I find it’s also important for them to learn good ground manners from a young age. Especially in the event of a medical emergency, not having to resort to sedatives constantly is a blessing. 🐴

It’s springtime and we require all horses to be up to date on all their core vaccines listed below. Contact your veterinarian to see which vaccines your horse needs!

Spring has sprung! Which means…vaccination season is upon us as well!

If you are wondering what vaccinations your horse should receive, the answer is — There are no “one size fits all” vaccine recommendations. A veterinarian who knows your horse and your management system is your best resource to recommend what vaccines your equine friend should receive and with what frequency!

While vaccination does not prevent disease in all circumstances, a good immunization protocol minimizes the risk of infection and remains an essential component of responsible horse ownership. A vaccination appointment is also the perfect opportunity for a yearly check-up of your equine friend and a great way to catch any health concerns early.

If you have yet to contact your veterinarian about scheduling your horse's vaccinations, we encourage you to do it soon!
