🐾 Dog Training Insights! 🐾
Did you know that stuffed dogs play a crucial role in the dog training industry?
🐕 Socialization and Behavior Modification:
Puppies and adult dogs benefit from exposure to other animals. Stuffed dogs provide a safe way to introduce dogs to the presence of “canine” companions without the risk of aggression or injury. For example, for dogs with reactive or aggressive behavior, trainers use realistic stuffed dogs as behavior modification aids. Gradual exposure helps reduce fear, anxiety, or aggression.
🐶 Shelter Evaluations:
Shelters use life-sized dolls resembling human children or realistic stuffed dogs during behavior evaluations. These assessments help gauge how a dog reacts to different stimuli.
🛟 Training Aid for Specific Tasks:
While less common, stuffed dogs can represent guide dogs or assistance dogs during training exercises. They help simulate real-world scenarios.
As more people invest in professional training services, innovative tools like stuffed dogs contribute to effective training outcomes. Whether it’s helping a puppy learn social skills or modifying behavior in an adult dog, these faux companions play a valuable role in the training process. 🐾🐶

Jimmy and his family have been working with us for over a couple of years now. Behavior work can be slow going, especially when the dog has been dealing with anxiety early on. Jimmy has come a long way- he can see people on his walk and now looks back at his momma! No biggie! 🥳
How is your reactivity work going?

The Stay Behavior
Why do we need to teach our dogs to stay?. In some contexts, stay is needed; dog sports, working dogs, operational dogs, etc.
For the pet dog, stay can be helpful in certain situations, such as waiting to cross the street or waiting to put their food down to eat. It’s also a cornerstone behavior that helps the dog practice impulse control.
Stay is super fun for videos and pictures. 🥰
A dog that can stay can also be a barometer for how they are feeling; perhaps the environment is really exciting or worrying. If they cannot stay in a particular situation, try asking again. If the dog still cannot, it’s okay to take a break and do something else. Don’t force the stay—this could potentially create fallout in the behavior over time.
Remember, consistency and patience are key when teaching your dog to “Stay.” Start small, build gradually, and celebrate their progress! 🐾🐶
Sometimes dogs, especially adolescent dogs, need a moment to process all of the information their brain processing in the environment. This might mean the dog doesn’t respond to a cue you give right away. Give them a moment to see what happens before changing something.
There are things you can do to help them if they cannot follow through at all; you can move farther away from the activity, you could pull out food to help lure them, you could change your position and re-cue…it depends on the individual dog and the context.
Practicing the behavior in different, less stimulating environments will help build your dog’s ability to do the behavior in busier situations in the future.
For those adolescent dogs, give them a moment. ☺️

👀World watching – social support, safety & security
✅ This game is going to build resilience via the domains, Social Support and Safety & Security. The game is: World Watching
We want to be able to walk down the street or through a park without the dog desperately pulling toward or jumping at other dogs and people. The way to do this is rehearsal, rehearsal, rehearsal.
⭐In this video, Baron is watching people and dogs walking by, from a distance where he is not experiencing a spike in arousal. He is able to observe the people and dogs while remaining calm, learning that although he is in a social context, he doesn’t have to interact with it.
