From the nationally recognized diagnostic lab at MSU Veterinary School- Brief read with a few recommendations for pet owners. Virginia isn’t one of the 14 states reporting so far. Bring any illness concerns to your veterinarian; we have guidance from our state diagnostic labs for treatment and collection of diagnostic samples.

The MSU Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory and Veterinary Medical Center are responding to media reports of canine respiratory disease in several U.S. states.

American flamingos, apparently evacuated themselves to Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge, Hatteras Island, NC, during hurricane Idalia. I was passing through Saturday and learned this is their first time ever in North Carolina, outside of a zoo! Just returned from graduation at Guiding Eyes in Yorktown Heights, NY where my brother Joe graduated with his amazing, unflappable, first ever guide dog, Martha, named after her puppy raiser’s Mom! It was love at first lick. Martha is a runner like Joe and is trained to run with him as well. She has already run a 10K and runs a 7 1/2 minute mile.

“Tucker Max,” rescue, turned up positive for cancer the day he was scheduled to go home forever. “OK to opt out,” New Mom replied she was taking him home. He has beat the odds on his 3-4 month predicted survival time and going strong, happy and healthy. Partner in crime “Cooper” in background.

“Tiny,” “Dolly,” “Baretta,” about 6 weeks old, from a litter of foundlings, 2 siblings already deceased. Three generous-hearted men nursed these 3 back from the brink, and each brought one home forever.
