With spring approaching, this is a reminder that certain flowers can also be extremely toxic to your pets. Some of the more popular holiday varieties include:

Lilies (all varieties): Kidney failure in cats 🐈

Chrysanthemums (Daisy/Mum): Vomiting, diarrhea, hypersalivation, incoordination, or dermatitis in cats and dogs 🐈🐕

Baby’s Breath: GI upset such as vomiting and diarrhea in both cats and dogs 🐈🐕

Daffodils: Small ingestions can cause GI upset. Large ingestions cause convulsions, low blood pressure, tremors and cardiac arrhythmias in both cats and dogs. Bulbs are the most poisonous part. 🐈🐕

Tulips: Vomiting, depression, diarrhea, hypersalivation in cats and dogs. Highest concentration of toxin in bulb. 🐈🐕

Roses: Although the petals are non-toxic, the thorns can be dangerous if your pet steps on or swallows the stem! 🐈🐕

Please remember to keep potentially harmful flowers and greenery out of paws reach! Use this Poisonous Plant resources guide from the ASPCA to check any flowers or plants you are planting or have in the house: https://www.aspca.org/pet-care/animal-poison-control/toxic-and-non-toxic-plants

If you suspect your pet has consumed toxic flowers or plants immediately contact your veterinarian or your local pet emergency hospital. You can also connect with the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center at (888) 426-4435.

Just a friendly reminder that these are death traps for your dog AND your pocket. They are known for causing obstructions, and that surgery isn't cheap. Stick to more easily digestible (and reasonably sized) snacks for your pup on Christmas

Doing some familiarization and training with Karma and his new Rex Specs goggles. He was diagnosed with Pannus about two months ago after we noticed something wasn't quite right with his left eye. So I took him to my vet who referred me to an animal eye specialist ($185 visit, before any medications). 2 weeks after medications, brought him back in and he was diagnosed with Pannus. He will have to take eyedrops in both eyes, twice a day, for the rest of his life. I asked if there was anything else I could do to help or mitigate the issue, and doc said to get him some goggles if he will be spending a lot of time outdoors.
For those who don't know or are unfamiliar with this, Pannus, or chronic superficial keratitis, is an immune-mediated condition affecting the cornea or clear part of the eye. It occurs primarily in middle-aged German Shepherd dogs and Belgian Tervurens, but other breeds may also be affected. With all of the German Shepherds I have owned and worked with, I had never heard of it before in the USA. MWDs and MPCs on deployments, yes. Apparently stateside it occurs much more commonly in Colorado. Ugh. He has been doing fine with the drops. Next step, get him accustomed to wearing the goggles. Most of you know how special Karma is to me. Without him, I am not sure where I would be right now. I hate seeing these signs of him aging. He still has so much strength and stamina and energy... I hope he stays healthy and is around for a long time to come. Focus on that and have fun, right?

Hello all! Small businesses are taking a big hit right now, so I wanted to give a shout out to a local business here. She is one of the best tattoo artists I have ever encountered, but she is also an amazing painter. I have two of her originals hanging in my living room and plan to add more. Please check out her page and all of her art. Buy something to hang in your home or as a gift to someone you love. Most of all, support small businesses. We are all just trying to stay alive, and there are plenty of creative ways to support the local small businesses. One way I am trying to is by offering virtual training lessons (video conference). Let's take care of one another and share this in your feed. Thank you!

In love? Heartbreak

In war? Death

In risk? Failure

You can hide them behind distraction, booze, lust, or conscious ignorance--but in the end, fear will always wait longer than you can hide it.

Embrace it, lest it swallow you whole.
