This is Rhett. He survived the unthinkable. 💔
While many of us will be celebrating the bow-WOW-walk this weekend—surrounded by wagging tails and joyful pups—we want to make sure our cat people know: your voice matters too.

Rhett was brought to us after being shot in the face.
Yes, you read that right. This gentle, resilient soul arrived broken and bloodied—but still purring.

His story isn’t just heartbreaking—it’s a rallying cry. Rhett’s injuries are extensive, and his recovery will take time, skilled medical care, and your support.

While dogs may take center stage this Saturday, Rhett reminds us: every animal deserves a fighting chance.

Bean heard it loud and clear and he's been carrying this tennis ball around just in case! This sweet, treat-loving five-year-old retriever is equal parts playful and cuddly. This , we’re feeling so grateful for the incredible people who give their time, energy, and hearts to the animals in our care. In the past year, 361 new volunteers joined our team, and together, our volunteers have given more than 13,000 hours walking dogs, socializing cats, cleaning kennels, folding laundry, sorting SPCA Rummage donations, helping at events, and so much more. 🐾

It’s not always easy work, but it always makes a difference. Every single hour our volunteers give helps save lives, lift spirits, and keep our shelter running. We truly couldn’t do it without them. From the bottom of our hearts—thank you. 💛

We're teaming up with Two Men And A Truck - Charlottesville to collect donations for our friends at Shelter for Help in Emergency! Drop by before May 7th to drop off donations and support moms in need.

Let's make this Mother's Day the best one yet for all the women at the Shelter for Help in Emergency! 💜

That's what this is all about; bringing some much-needed joy and comfort to women and mothers who need it the most.

We'll be collecting essential care and comfort items until May 7th, so there's plenty of time to donate!

She’s food-motivated, eager to learn, and enjoys rough-and-rowdy play with other dogs. Sunshine has good house manners and is just the sweetest, most loving girl according to her previous foster family! Please DO NOT apply for these animals as they are strays waiting to find their family! If you recognize any of them, please call us at (434) 973-5959 or stop by the shelter from 12-6pm. These animals are not available for adoption until their stray hold is over and they have been spayed/neutered. They will be posted to our website at that time if they are not redeemed. Thank you for your help in getting these animals home!

Ironclad—now Frank—came to us in February from our friends at Shenandoah Valley Animal Services Center, where he’d spent over six months with little adoption interest. It didn’t take long for Frank to charm our team with his playful personality and even less time to steal the hearts of his new family.

They recently shared this sweet update:

"Frank has truly made himself at home. He spends his days playing with his toys, watching the birds from his window perch, or snoozing—usually curled up snug as a bug in a rug. This weekend, he even enjoyed watching a bit of the golf at Augusta National! Frank has been such a sweet and loving companion—he’s already made a tremendous difference in my daily life, and I’ll be forever grateful."

We love seeing Frank thriving in such a loving home! If you’re ready to give a shelter pet like him a fresh start, visit us during open hours to meet some of the incredible animals waiting for their forever families!
