Freya, Fritz, Freckles, Franklin, and Fabian had a blast hanging out with the cast and crew of Cody Johnson at JOHN PAUL JONES ARENA before their show this evening! 🤠🐕

In between a few puppy pile nap breaks, these beautiful babies shared lots of cuddles and kisses with everyone they met! These cuties aren’t available for adoption quite yet, but be sure to stay tuned to our website and social channels for updates! 🐾🩵

These are the pets that have arrived at the shelter over the last few days and we want to get them home to their owners. Please DO NOT apply for these animals as they are strays waiting to find their family! If you recognize any of them, please call us at (434) 973-5959 or stop by the shelter from 12-6pm. These animals are not available for adoption until their stray hold is over and they have been spayed/neutered. They will be posted to our website at that time if they are not redeemed. Thank you for your help in getting these animals home!

Meet Tucker! This sweet boy absolutely loves people and will do anything for attention! He knows how to sit, is house-trained, and is also crate-trained. Tucker enjoys playing with leaves in the yard and loves leaning on you for all the belly rubs. He gets along well with other dogs and plays wonderfully with them in the play yard!

Tucker is currently in foster care and is neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, and ready to meet his own loving family. Email [email protected] to get connected with his awesome foster! ❤️🐾

Today, a sweet mama and her 5 puppies joined us from Russell County VA Animal Shelter, along with 7 adorable cats from Franklin County VA Animal Shelter, and 8 lovely kitties from the Humane Society of Amherst County! 🩵🐾

We are so grateful to help our community. These cuties are NOT available for adoption yet! Stay tuned as we get to know them and share updates on when they’ll be ready to find their forever homes! ✨

Meet Harmony! Our sweet lady who has been with us since August! ✨🐾

Harmony just came back from foster and was very highly praised! She’s settled into her own and absolutely loves being a dog. She adores cuddles, pets, and meeting new people. On walks, she’s a social butterfly, happily stopping to greet anyone passing by. She’s great on leash and would make a great walking buddy! 🦮

She’s fantastic with her crate—calm and cooperative every time—and is a generally quiet companion! She is house-trained as well! Harmony has a playful side and especially loves her plush toys. She’s a fast learner and just wants to make her people happy. She’s blossomed into a confident, affectionate dog who just wants to give and receive love!

Meet Adele! This 3-year-old beauty takes a little bit to warm up, but once she trusts you, she loves to cuddle up beside you and give you hugs! She enjoys nice walks and yummy treats after zoomies in the play yard and has recently enjoyed romping around with other dogs! Adele is spayed, microchipped, and fully up to date on her vaccines. Meet Amelia! This 15.5-year-old beauty has been with us since July. She is living it up in a loving foster home but she is looking for her perfect match! She may be a tiny bit shy at first, but she warms up with a few scratches under her chin. The way to her heart is brushing, treats, and wet food! Her foster mom reports that she sometimes falls asleep during her grooming sessions and she sleeps with her every night. She also allows her sweet children to hold her like a baby!

Amelia is spayed, microchipped, and up-to-date on vaccinations. She is being fostered at the moment so email [email protected] and we can set you up with the foster family to coordinate a time to come and see her! To sweeten the deal, her adoption fee is sponsored! 🐾💖

Mac and Cheese came into our care in November 2022 after being found attempting to cross a street in Charlottesville. With no mother nearby, a kind-hearted Good Samaritan brought them to safety! They were placed in a loving foster home to grow big and strong and were adopted in March 2023. Recently, we received a heartwarming update from their family:

“CASPCA alum Peeta and Katniss (formerly Mac and Cheese) keep us hopping! They love their window seats and still do nightly zoomies! We love them so much and have been awesome editions to our family!”

We’re overjoyed to see Mac and Cheese thriving in such a loving and amazing home! Don’t forget to join our SPCA Alumni page to share updates and adventures of your rescue pets—we love hearing how they’re doing!❤️🐾

Polar came into our care in August 2024 as one of 16 dogs brought in from animal control. These dogs were severely under-socialized and suffered from significant skin issues. Our dedicated medical team worked tirelessly to nurse them back to health, as well as our staff, volunteers, and their dedicated fosters. Once they were fully recovered, they were ready to find their own loving homes. In September 2024, Polar’s journey was complete when she found her perfect family! They shared this heartwarming update:

“She is doing great! Her new name is Mabel Rose. She is a real cuddle bug! She can be a little wild sometimes and loves to play tug of war. She nips to get attention but we are working on that! Her nicknames so far are Mabel Sue, Dobby (because she looks like the house elf from Harry Potter sometimes) or Abu Dhabi! She was on our Christmas card and we just love her!”

We’re overjoyed to see Polar thriving in such a loving home! If you’re ready to give a shelter pet like Polar a fresh start, visit us during open hours to meet some of the incredible animals waiting for their forever families! 💙🐾
