A Humble Beginning
We were living in a small trailer park. Not much to do or see. The only animals we had at the time were 4 dogs! Lacy, Cookie, Angel and Dixie! It was small and we were happy with what God had given us. But we still wanted something more to do to give God the glory! Something that we could use to help people and animals. So when we moved onto a property that we are on now, it came to us that we had enough room to start a little farm. But we didn't know what kind of animals we wanted to do. The first animals we got were 2 Little chickens, Eve and Cherry. We knew from the start that we wanted to get our own eggs, so we found out they were being sold and brought them home before we even moved in, we got our first eggs, 2 weeks before we moved. A couple weeks later we got to move into our new home that we remodeled ourselves. We were excited. We had our dogs and our chickens but mom wanted to learn how to weave and spin her own wool for her book that she was writing. She wanted to learn how they done things in the 1800’s. When she talked to daddy he didn't know what to think at first but eventually she talked him into it after much praying and they went to pick out their first sheep, but we couldn't get them just yet. A week after they picked out the sheep I (Haleigh King) decided that I wanted to do something to help. So I started looking on craigslist for the perfect animal, and that's when I saw him, Bucky, a 4 weeks old baby Nubian goat and I was sold. I knew then and there that I was meant to do goats. But he was going to need a buddy because we could bring him home 2 weeks before we got our three Shetland sheep. So my mom started looking and found Ro Ro and Willow. I wasn't going to get willow I was just going to choose Ro Ro because she was born on my moms birthday ( Hince the name Ro Ro after Rochelle) but I couldn't pass up willow for some reason so we got both. When we brought Bucky and willow home they hit it off perfectly like best friends. a week later we got a call saying that Ro R0’s mom had passed and that she was now a bottle baby if we wanted to get her early. Well DUH!! WE brought her home and fell in love even more. I knew this was what God wanted us to do. A week later we finally got to bring home the three sheep Cocoa, Hershey, and Carmel... and an Alpaca. When they had went to look for sheep my dad fell in love with this alpaca Cusco. so mom got him for daddy for Fathers day! After we got them settled mom decided that she wanted to try to raise wool rabbits, and dad liked the idea, so they found their first 2 rabbits, Floppsy and Sweetpea. After that we got into Silver Fox rabbits, and Got our first of those Percival and Guinevere. When we finally got our first animals we realized that this is what we were meant to do. This was our new life, God has provided every animal there in the our price range everytime and made it easy for us to get them, and we can’t thank him enough. Yes it has been hard at times, we have lost a few animals starting with willow. But we don’t know God’s plan, we don’t know what would have happened in the future, all I know is that during the time that we had them, Willow, Maple, Dot, Lileigh, Rocky, Oliver, Eve, and Zues and Cookie, it was the best times of our lives, each animal was placed in our lives for some reason, and I’m glad that we could give them love and family before they left us. But in the midst of all that loss, we have went from the little that we had to 48 chickens, 4 goats, 3 alpaca’s, 11 Sheep, 17 rabbits and 4 quail! And hopefully more in the future. God has blessed this little farm. And I sure can’t thank him enough for our very humble beginning!
