Rest in peace our sweet Bella. We lost ten year old Bella today to liver failure but we had the most incredible two and a half years caring for her in our senior dog program. She came to us with a bladder tumor which under the care of Dr. Mulvey was put into remission. During her time with us, she experienced many other health issues but each one was managed and cared for by Dr. Mulvey and her foster dad Perry. She completely lost her vision in the last year but she was always wagging her tail and giving Perry wonderful kisses and incredible love. She became one of our GRRR ambassadors and attended many events.

Bella required more daily medical care than any other dog I have ever met but gosh darn every moment with her were moments of joy. I’m going to miss her terribly but she is in a better place, free of pain and chronic illness.

Rest in peace sweet Bella and know you will have a place in our hearts forever.

This is Coop, and he might just be the cutest bobtail baby we’ve ever met! Coop is a sweet little guy with a big personality. He is super outgoing, social, playful, and goofy. You can’t help but fall in love with him. He loves to snuggle with all the cats and dogs in his foster home, and would love to have snuggle buddies in his new home too.

If you are interested in adopting Coop, please fill out an adoption application at https://www.grrrsavesdogs.org/applications

What’s all the excitement about? It’s been fourteen days since eye removal surgery and eight year old Cookie is on her way to Dr. Mulvey’s to have her stitches removed! As you can see, she healed nicely and she is looking forward to her new look. Beautiful as always.

Yesterday was a day to relax for Fiona after starting her heartworm treatment at Eastside Veterinary Hospital two days ago. Her next treatment is in thirty days and we are dedicated to restoring her health.

We rescued Fiona from the Liberty County Shelter. During her lifetime, Fiona was used extensively for breeding and then dumped. Her care was shoddy at best resulting in her becoming heartworm positive.

Minnie is looking for a forever home again. Sweet little Minnie joined GRRR in January of this year and was placed into a permanent home in February. She is approximately six to seven years in age. In January, GRRR had dental surgery performed as well as removal of a benign mammary tumor. She is spayed, microchipped and up-to-date on all immunizations. Why does she need a new home? Circumstances in her current home have changed and chronic health issues of her person is preventing the daily structure, training and attention that she needs. Happy Sunday! Meet Reese with GRRR! Reese is a bundle of love and energy and in getting to know him he has demonstrated that he is great with other small dogs and cats. He loves people but needs a small bit of time to get to know them upon initial meeting. He would make a wonderful family member and a loyal companion. We are approximating his age between five to seven years based on thorough veterinarian exams.

Reese is extremely intelligent and is housetrained. He is an agile pup that will require a secure fenced yard due to his highly inquisitive nature.

If you would like to meet Reese, please begin the process by first completing our online application found at:

Meet our beautiful bonded siblings, Rusty and Riley! They are 2.5 years old and love hanging out together. Rusty is outgoing while Riley takes her time to warm up to new people. Both are super sweet and laidback. Neither likes to be picked up but they love attention. They follow their foster parents around and seek them out for pets and head scratches. They love “helping” with chores and always being a part of the action. They are great with other cats and very comfortable around dogs.

Please share this post and help us find these sweet siblings a forever home! If you would like to meet Rusty and Riley, please begin by completing our online application. Visit: grrrsavesdogs.org/applications

Ten-year-old Flash had his intake exam today with Dr. Becker (on left in picture). His incredible foster mom Jen is in the middle. Flash had a terrific visit; he received a Librela vaccine for his arthritis, he had a fatty lipoma looked at under the microscope and he got set-up for dental surgery on September 19. Who could ask for anything more?

Meet Bonnie and Jessie with GRRR. Two of the sweetest dogs you will ever meet.
Bonnie and Jessie are looking for their last stop loved. After losing their dad, eight year old Bonnie and nine year old Jessie found themselves at the Bartow County Animal Control. After living there for over a month, GRRR rescued the senior girls and transported them five hours south to Savannah in late March. Since then, we have successfully treated Jessie for heartworm disease as well as fully vetted both girls in preparation for a loving forever home. A week ago they were at our meet and greet event and today we would like to reintroduce them to you as we seek a loving forever home. They are sweet, affectionate, interact well with other dogs and would make the perfect addition to any family and home.
If you would like to meet this perfect pair, please complete our application by visiting grrrsavesdogs.org/applications

Let’s forget about the ******* who abandoned this dog at Chatham County Animal Services. Let’s just think about the fact that GRRR rescued 14-year-old Barney today, took him to the groomer (this is the before picture) and promised him that he was now going to live his BEST LIFE EVER and that he had found his last stop loved.

While GRRR cannot control the as****es of the world who abandon their senior dogs, we can save their senior dogs and provide the dog with a happy ending in life in one of our loving homes. Honestly, there is nothing better than that.

Eight year old Cookie wants to thank everyone who donated to cover the cost of her eye removal (Enucleation) this past Thursday. She sends much love, wet kisses and lots of hugs to all of her supporters and wants y’all to know that her life is better today because of you! She also wants you to see how nicely she is healing and to let you know that her stitches come out in twelve more days.

Cookie has been blind all of her life but there was a sudden change in her intraocular pressure presenting itself with a sudden bulge in the eye one week ago. While this condition can sometimes be managed through drops, her condition could not. Normal pressure reading is 12 mmHg to 28 mmHg, hers was 46 mmHg.

Meet Pinky who is looking for a forever home. GRRR works with the Eastside Veterinary Hospital and they are one of our primary veterinary practices that are instrumental in keeping our dogs healthy. Today we are assisting them in finding Pinky a home.

Surrendered to the hospital, Pinky is an incredibly sweet and energetic two year old who is seeking a loving forever home. Pinky would prosper in a home with a fenced yard, no children and probably as an only dog. She enjoys kisses, belly rubs, playing with toys and letting you know just how much she adores you! She is spayed, up-to-date on all immunizations and is a healthy and very happy dog.

If you would like to meet Pinky or just would like to obtain additional information, please reach out through messenger to GRRR or the staff at Eastside Veterinary Hospital. Eastside can be reached at (912) 232-1741 You also find an application for adoption by visiting:

Last stop loved once again. 14-year-old Pepper joined GRRR last week after losing his mom to a terminal illness two weeks ago. He visited Dr. Mulvey at Savannah Veterinary Medical Center on Thursday for his senior intake exam and we dug a little deeper with both an ultrasound and X-rays of his kidneys and bladder. His previous vet (before he came to us) had detected stones in both kidney and bladder so we wanted to see his current status based on an earlier recommendation for surgery.

The good news? He won’t require surgery but we have placed him on a prescription diet in efforts to alleviate a small amount of stones still present. We will be doing frequent vet visits with him to monitor the situation allowing him to live out his life possibly stone free and pain free.

Spoiler Alert - Pepper is with us in foster but he’s not always the warmest and fuzziest little dog. He does not like to be picked up, this is nothing new, it’s a characteristic he’s possessed his entire life. Handled incorrectly he might be a bit snappy. This is not to say that he’s a bad dog, he is a sweet dog just a bit temperamental (as most of us are). We write this only because this picture will generate a number of requests for people wanting him him and while we aren’t adverse to placing him with another foster or forever, we need to define his personality up front.

Always know that our extensive work in providing medical care to senior dogs is the primary focus of GRRR. It only happens through your donations, sharing posts and your commitment. Be part of our mission and visit:

- Eight-year-old Cookie had surgery three days ago on Thursday for emergency removal of one eye (enucleation). Total cost to GRRR was an unexpected $591.00. Help is needed. We ran a small fundraiser the night before but only saw $30.00 in donations. To assist, visit: https://donorbox.org/cookie-s-emergency-eye-removal Any funds collected over our goal will be used for two incoming seniors this week from Chatham County Animal Services. Both will require medical attention.
- Cookie is a long-term resident in one of our special needs foster homes and lives happily with other blind dogs.
- Cookie has been blind all of her life but there was a sudden change in her intraocular pressure presenting itself with a sudden bulge in the eye one week ago. While this condition can sometimes be managed through drops, her condition could not. Normal pressure reading is 12 mmHg to 28 mmHg, hers is 46 mmHg.
- We will continue to share her journey over the next few days in posts on our social media pages letting you know how she is doing. Thank you for helping Cookie by visiting:

Molly is doing better! On Thursday she visited Dr. Mulvey for a retest on her liver values and they have improved!

Back in May, we rescued 10 year old Molly from the Metter Animal Shelter in Candler County. She arrived with a severe case of dental disease which we quickly addressed through dental surgery and removal of over a dozen infected and abscessed teeth. Through blood work we learned that she was also suffering from chronic liver disease. Dr. Mulvey placed her on Ursodiol, a drug used in dogs to treat chronic liver disease.

While there is no cure for liver disease, through frequent bloodwork to monitor liver values with Dr. Mulvey, use of prescription drugs and a whole lot of love that she receives from her forever foster mom LeeAnn, Molly’s life will be extended and her remaining time on this earth will be nothing less than wonderful.

The work we do at GRRR with senior dogs is so important, it’s the ability to provide dogs like Molly extended lifespans filled with love and excellent medical care. Only through your donations can this happen. If this story his inspired you to become part of our mission, please donate by visiting: https://donorbox.org/saving-seniors-365-days-a-year

We have not met our August goal yet and we invite you to help. Thank you from Molly and all the senior dogs in our care.

Our Story

Founded in 2011, GRRR is a small 501(c)(3) rescue organization that serves Savannah, Georgia and the surrounding counties. We are dedicated to rescuing small dogs under 30 lbs. in size from owners who are no longer able to care for them, from public shelters without a “no-kill” policy, and from situations where they have suffered abuse or neglect. We are committed to helping both the most needy and the more readily adoptable animals in our community. GRRR places a large emphasis on working with senior dogs who are overlooked by most people when they are adopting a dog. We have rescued many senior dogs, insuring that their last years are comfortable, loved and happy. All donations made are tax deductible, and every dollar goes directly to the care of our animals. All of our rescues are spayed or neutered, receive proper veterinary treatment, and are placed in loving foster homes while awaiting adoption. To meet a pet of interest please complete an adoption application at grrrsavesdogs.org and we will contact you to discuss adoption opportunities.
