Miss Penny is now Miss Penny Parton with her golden curls. You never know what she will be wearing next. She's such a wonderful good natured dog. It's just too bad that she needs to be the only dog in the family. She loves people and children and is the best couch potato around.
If interested in adopting, please complete and online application; www.lovar.org
Penny received a gift from Jo Parsons of SaddleBrooke today. She loves her dog treats and the generous donation towards her care while she's in rescue.
We at LOVAR thank you for your kindness and generosity.

Max doesn't like to have his feet messed with, but he needs his nails trimmed. I decided that a dog his size needs to be muzzle trained. I showed him the muzzle and he immediately had an avoidance reaction to it, telling me he's had a muzzle put on him before, but he did not like it. So, I started his muzzle training today. Unfortunately I had music in the background that FB would have flagged for copyright so I had to take the sound off. You can't hear me saying "good boy max! " As he puts his nose into the muzzle to get the treat. I will teach him that muzzles are not big bad things. Muzzles mean treats and pets and "good boy!" And then he will learn that having his nails done will also mean good yummy things. ❤️
I "disappear" on my dogs if they aren't paying attention to see how long it takes them to come looking for me. Max did very well with this game. 🙂
Max is not a big dog, but he's all muscle weighing in at 73 pounds. He is looking for a home that appreciates his quirks because he IS a funny guy once he gets to know you. He does need someone who is an experienced dog person though.
Max also wants me to mention that he is very housebroken, he has very good house manners, doesn't counter surf, doesn't steal food, doesn't tear anything up or chew on things and doesn't jump on foster mom.
Max is 5 years old and his former owner, who owned him from puppyhood, passed away, and his whole world was turned upside down.
Max does have a few quirks to be aware of before you fall in love with him....
He seems to think he's a cat and likes to rub his body against you...cute at 10 pounds, can be overwhelming with 73 pounds! I am redirecting this behavior.
He is dog selective and would need an introduction with any other pets. He gets along very well with my 13 pound, 16 year old, girl.
He can be protective of "his person" and therefore isn't the best dog for high social situations.
He is GREAT to walk, he pulls minimally and when he forgets himself and pulls a verbal or physical correction is all he needs. In remote areas with no distractions I walk him off leash and he is very good about staying near me and keeping track of me.
Max loves to cuddle. Not much into toys or playing.
Either Max really likes his sweater, or he's excited about Christmas? 😂
We would like to let everyone know we apologize for our lack of social media presence this past several weeks. Our very good friend, LOVAR volunteer and adopter, who adopted not one, but two very special dogs with special needs from us passed from this Earth in February after a battle with COVID. We deeply mourn her passing and yet know she is busy over the rainbow bridge with all the four-legged family members she loved and cared for over the years and is on to her new journey. @Rosalie Sanzone, aka Aunt Roe to all the animals here, you will be dearly missed.
This amazing woman adopted Faith, (now Jenny) who many of you followed and loved back when she was found in a canal in 2018, severely emaciated, and riddled with Valley Fever and a severely deformed body, but a strong heart and will to live. Jenny spent the last few years with Rosalie, (today would have marked her 4-year adoption anniversary) being loved and cared for in the best possible home we could ever have wished for. In 2020, she then adopted another special needs dog from us, Rox (now Rocco) who was extremely shy and fearful and previously trapped as a feral dog from @pinalcountyanimalcare. He also thrived under her care and love and guidance.
Rosalie had been an inspiration to many as she also was a cancer survivor (8 years). She loved horses and shared our belief that all animals deserve to live and know love and kindness. Like us, she had worked with Carolina Dogs and wanted to help special needs and fearful dogs. She was a character, honest, genuine, dedicated, caring and compassionate and we were fortunate to know her and have her become a part of the LOVAR family.
We went to Rosalie’s home in Cave Creek after learning of her passing with another one of our amazing volunteers, fosters, adopter and part of the core LOVAR team and dear friend, @Elizabeth Brotherson (Beth), who met Rosalie through Faith and Rox adoptions. Beth become very close with Rosalie (chatting with her on a daily
