Who ready to jump in to class? For those who have been asking they are finally up!

We will have a new round of classes starting in May. Join Destiny, Brigitte and the rest of the team for a wide range of of classes varying from Foundations Obedience class to Reactive Dog Rehabilitation Class. Classes are located in BOTH the MatSu Valley and Anchorage locations.

🌺 Foundations Obedience 🌺
Foundations obedience class is the perfect place to start with your pup, regardless of breed, size, or age! Our goal is to help you learn to communicate with your dog, create a dog who offers handler engagement, respects boundaries, and has a solid foundation for sport or companion life. In this class you will learn how to use different training methods and behaviors to create a healthy relationship with your dog. We will cover luring, free shaping, sit, down, offering handler focus, finding heel position, relaxing on a bed, and teaching you how to work your pup through stressful situations with the tools they learn in class. Our foundations classes are taught indoors in a controlled environment to set our dogs and handlers up for success.

Anchorage - Monday’s @ 6:00pm
MatSu Valley - Wednesday’s @ 6:00pm

🌺 Advanced Obedience 🌺
This is the place to be If your dog has solid foundations and you want to take your dog’s foundational skills to the next level. In this class we really focus on analyzing our obedience skills such as engagement, sits, downs, heeling, recalls and the ability to work under distraction. Our goal is to push our student’s skills to the next level, so they not only have a well behaved dog but a well trained dog.

Anchorage - Monday’s @ 7:00pm
MatSu Valley - Wednesday’s @ 7:00pm

🌺 Intro to Rally 🌺
Are you looking for a fun way to keep up on your dog's obedience skills? Rally is a fun yet challenging dog sport in which the dog and handler team work together to complete a course made up of signs that has been set by a rally judge. Sit, Down, Call front finish left forward, 360 Right, 270 Left, are just a few examples of signs you may run across on a course. In this class we will cover the basic rules and Novice sings for the sport of AKC Rally.

Anchorage - May 14th @ 7:30pm

🌺 Trail Manners 🌺

Are you looking to improve your dog's skills on the beautiful Alaskan trials?? Lets take our skills to the trails and put them to the test. During this class we will be covering proper trail manners and skills to apply in real life situations. We will put our heeling, stays, recalls, and engagement to the test by changing locations, and encountering unknown distractions on the trail.

ALL DOGS AND HANDLERS MUST HAVE COMPLETED TRAINING WITH ONE OF OUR TRAINERS PRIOR TO ATTENDING CLASS.

I wanted to publicly open Havoc up for stud, Selby Lackey RN and I have been talking and big handsome will be 7 in April! He is proven to produce short stocky big b***d dogs to include the females! Check out Eclipsed by Pitts for his family! We’d like to see some more havoc kids out there! If you need to add some rear havoc is here to do that, and proven to do so! He’s got a great top line, excellent muscle mass especially for an almost senior dog. He is very intelligent and willing to please, obedient, and very easy to handle, once you flip the switch and he turns that drive on he’s willing to do whatever you’re sending him to! And once it clicks he will continue to push farther and farther as long as it makes you happy! So if you’ve ever considered using him reach out! Would love to see more of his kids then just mine dabble in any sports! Most will have the mind for it ❤️ the best part about Havoc is he’s not stubborn at all! He wants to do right and the desire to do wrong or disobey rarely comes over him, and never ever over comes him unlike many of these bullies!

As your dog retrieves the first...second...third...maybe fifth or sixth ball, his muscles start to tire and soon they reach overload, where they no longer can fully control and support your dog's movements. Now, when your dog does those amazing athletic maneuvers to snag the ball, soft tissues like the cranial cruciate ligament, iliopsoas muscle and tendon, and the muscles and ligaments that support the vertebrae are overstretching. Minor tears are occurring. Now the ball is thrown 10, 12 times or more and ultimately your dog lies down, exhausted.

That period between when your dog's muscles are in overload, and when your dog lies down exhausted, is the injury zone (Figure 1). But remember, with all that adrenaline, your dog doesn't feel the injuries happening, so you have no idea that the tissues are being used beyond their capacity.

When this game is repeated day after day, month after month, the small tissue tears become large ones, and suddenly it becomes evident that your dog is in pain and has an injury. Of course, it hasn't been sudden at all-what seemed sudden is just the final result of repeated stress and strain until the tissues gave way.

"The ideal American Bully possesses the athleticism to do well in performance events." --UKC Breed Standard, American Bully, 2013

We frequently see the American Bully excel in UKC events like Weight Pull! Stick with us this week and through next Monday as we celebrate 10 years of the American Bully with ten days of posts!

LET’S TALK TOOLS

Red Arrow: Harness that fits around the dog’s body and when connected to a clip leash, creates a pulling reaction from the dog. This pulling reaction triggers the shoulders and chest muscles to be used which then influences the dog to use strength to get where they need to. If you have properly trained your dog to walk right next to you on a harness, you will not experience the pulling. Congratulations, I have yet to see this. 😂

Orange Arrow: Flat collar, usually used to connect a clip leash to and often times sits on the bottom of the neck due to gravity and the dog’s head being higher than the shoulders. This then triggers the dog’s shoulder muscles and the pulling starts. Again, this teaches the dog that strength needs to be used to get where they need to. If you have properly trained your dog to walk next to you on a flat collar, you will not experience the pulling. The majority of dogs I see are pulling during this setup.

Blue Arrow: Slip Leash is very high on the neck where it is placed behind the ears, behind the jaw bone, and it allows us to influence the dog’s head and brain. Shoulders and chest muscles are not triggered and physical strength is not used during the walk. When used correctly, little to no pressure is on the leash and physical strength is used by the dog to get from point A to point B. If you have properly trained your dog to walk next to you on a slip leash, you will not experience any pulling.

Out of the 3 tools shown, the slip leash is one of the most productive tools to create a structured walk, a calm mind, and a solid relationship.

Ever watch anyone walk a horse by the saddle?

Yeah, me either.

That’s because when you walk a 1000lb animal, you need to influence the brain and not the body.

Let’s start influencing our dog’s mentally and not physically.
