We have a few puppies left available from our latest litter of pups! These are Shepherd mix X Golden Retriever. We had a few pups last summer with similar breeding who have turned out to be extremely sweet, loyal and beautiful dogs! They will be about 50-60lbs with similar body style to my golden female Beesley, their mom. We have a couple female chocolate color pups and a few black color pups, both genders. They are extremely well socialized with other dogs, cats and children! Available July 10 with first round of shots and dewormer. Message me for more details!

Amy is looking for a person of her own! Amiability aka Amy is a 16.1 hh, 9 year old OTTB mare. Not raced since 2017. Very solid build, with a big barrel and a nice top line! Impeccable ground manners, I let my 2 and 4 year old kids walk all around her loose in the pasture or tied in the barn. Straight and cross ties, stands like an angel for farrier, loads easily, and hauls well. Not mare-ish in the least. Doesn’t get phased by new environments, and has been to numerous clinics and off property lessons. Needs front shoes with pads. Restarted professionally using natural horsemanship techniques, and has done a lot of liberty work. Rides walk, trot, canter, and can be ridden on loose rein. She has a lot of energy and can be strong under saddle so not suitable for beginners. No bolt, buck or rear. She has been ridden ba****ck in a halter. Very soft off leg yields, with a solid foundation and lots of potential to excel - her best quality is her insane brain! Does low jumps. Ridden out on the trails alone but does better with other horses and prefers ring work. Has been successfully bred previously. Located in Vernon VT. 8️⃣🥕, PM for more information.

We are having such a blast with Beesley’s first litter! They’re such good pups and I can see so much of Red in them. They had their first outside excursion today and had a blast playing in the leaves! We’ve given them temporary “101 Dalmatians” names in honor of the fact that we felt about the same when all 13 of them were born! If you know anyone looking for a present of Gold for Christmas, send them my way - these guys will be ready to go home Dec 5!

If anyone is looking a for a great job with horses!!

We are still looking for the next people to join our team. Great working environment with happy horses and kind people. Rather than listing all the details here, we encourage those looking for some learning, a good full-time job and/or some flexible opportunities to earn some extra money to inquire to learn more. SOLD! Skips Shinin Honey aka Honey is a 15.1 hh, 8 year old registered AQHA mare. Very solid build, and absolutely stunning! We call her the Barbie horse because she’s so picture perfect with a mane that just won’t quit! Impeccable ground manners. Straight and cross ties, stands for farrier, loads easily, and hauls well. Barefoot and sound. Restarted professionally using natural horsemanship techniques, and has done a fair bit of liberty work. Rides walk, trot, canter, with a balanced of whoa and go (though she naturally lives on the whoa side of life). Can be ridden on a loose rein. I’ve given pony rides to my three year old on her and ridden double off her. Very soft in the bridle and off leg yields, solid foundation and lots of potential! Does low jumps, but would not excel as a jumper. Can sit for a couple weeks and still comes to work the same horse you left her. Occasionally questions her rider, but is very easy to straighten out; as such she isn’t for a brand new beginner. Ridden out on the trails alone and with other horses. She has a couple stall vices, so she will need a home where she will get to live out in a pasture. Located in Vernon VT. 🔟🥕, PM for more information. Look in comments for link to sale video.

SOLD! DD Justa Dreamer aka Indy is a 15 hh, 6 year old registered Arabian gelding. Very sporty, typey build. He is absolutely cute as a button. Impeccable ground manners. Straight and cross ties, stands for farrier, loads easily, and hauls well. Barefoot and sound. Restarted professionally using natural horsemanship techniques, and has a solid foundation in liberty work. Rides walk, trot, canter, with a great balance of whoa and go. Can be ridden on a loose rein. Very soft in the bridle and off leg yields, solid foundation and lots of potential! Could excel in endurance, dressage, or jumping. Ridden out on the trails alone and with other horses. Will do best with a confident rider who wants to go do things with him. Located in Vernon VT. 8️⃣🥕, PM for more information. I feel this so hard. So grateful for the encouragement!

I feel this so hard. So grateful for the encouragement!

Just a note of encouragement for you all. There are good days and hard days. Days we feel we have it all figured out and others we think we should sell everything and do something different but please remember we are all in the same boat. It takes a committed mind and spirit to get to the other side of our struggles.

This community was made to help you grow, to support your empowerment, and all of the resources are here for that purpose!

Anytime we challenge our patterns or change our ways, it can be tough. Remember that the work will always lead you towards liberation! It’s not an easy journey but it’s worth the effort to feel the joy of a deeper relationship with both yourself and those around you.

With all the love and courage I can give you,
Josh

“I’m teaching my horse to accept contact”

If I had a dollar for every time I heard this! Typically it is accompanied by a horse throwing their head up, diving behind the vertical, gaping at the mouth- essentially attempting to be anywhere BUT the contact.

Here is something I often say to people in my clinics.

Imagine you’re on a date. Your date grabs your hand and doesn’t let go. You squirm to get away, but he holds tighter. He says, some day you will have to hold my hand so you need to get used to it. I won’t release until you accept this contact. Maybe he’s brought up in the school of thought that your display of evasion should be countered with a strap of some kind to prevent you from moving away- a flash nose band of sorts for you.

It doesn’t matter how light or heavy he touches- it is contact that isn’t right for the moment. It’s greedy, and inappropriate.

Now imagine you’re on a date and the conversation has lead you to realize you really enjoy his company. Your relationship is developing, he brushes your hand, you reach out and hold it.

Those are two very different feelings, and they come from two very different places.

When the conditions are there, the contact is taken by the horse. Not the other way around.

Contact has meaning. It is not meaningless pressure on the horses mouth, it is a holding of hands while you dance- it is a connection between your body and the horse’s hind legs. It is the display of everything you believe and who you are- manifested through your hand and into the horse- and the horse’s response is a direct representation of their preparation and feelings about your body and hands.

This handsome boy, Finn, is in for training for the month. He’s super sweet and smart, and his mom has been putting in all the hard work prepping him for the last nine months. He is here just to have a little confidence building and give him a better understanding of pressure under saddle. I have been really enjoying having horses here in training. I currently have one spot open for mid-August, and a couple spots in September and October. Contact me if you’re interested in sending your horse to me for training!

Meet Amiability aka Amy! She is a 7 yo OTTB mare. She belongs to my business partner Judy, and I have been developing her for the last year. She has a few conformational drawbacks that have caused balance and rhythm to be hard for her, but she's coming along very nicely. She has a brain and heart of gold - so relaxed and so much try!

This is Indy, my other new guy! He's a 6 yo registered Arabian gelding. I bought him this past November as a winter project and have been having so much fun with him. He had a few foundational holes in his training, but with a natural restart, he's doing fantastic! He has a high propensity for bonding, but definitely makes you earn his trust. He's currently for sale, DM me for details if you're interested!

Everybody meet my new guy, Monte! He's an 11 yo TBxOldenburg. He loves liberty and jumping, but has a few issues with tension under saddle. He's extremely athletic and keeps me entertained with his acrobatics - as long as I'm not on top of him! I'm super excited to expand my skill while I develop him this summer!

Everyone say hello to Gabe! He's a 16 yo registered Lippitt Morgan gelding. He's still my main horse around here - helping with student lessons, giving leadline rides to youngsters, helping me pony training horses as well as being my main ride for personal development. He's an absolute goober, loves apples and smiling on command!

First an introduction of myself for anyone new on here! I'm Erin, owner-operator and head instructor and trainer for Harris Horsemanship! I've loved horses my whole life and always dreamed of running my own barn. From 2017-2019, I interned for Nate and Amy Bowers in CO, learning the ins and outs of c**t starting, problem horse training, working cows, eventing and much, much more! Since then I have been training and teaching in southeastern VT and the surrounding area. My training specialties are c**t starting, foundation work (on the ground and in the saddle), and confidence building. I also teach the principles of groundwork and basics of riding to students both on and off farm. I'm so glad you're part of my community! Tell me a little about yourself in the comments!

Hey guys! It's been a minute! Harris Horsemanship had a really busy year in 2021, and I couldn't seem to divide my time between lessons, personal life AND keeping up with social media! As I gear up for the 2022 season I'm hoping to be able to keep you updated here more regularly! Let's start with a few introductions, since the herd has changed a little bit in the last year! Yeehaw, looking forward to exciting things!

DD Justa Dreamer aka Indy is a 15 hh, coming 6 year old registered Arabian gelding. Very sporty, typey build. He is absolutely cute as a button and has high propensity for bonding. He needs someone to take their time earning his trust, but he is the horse that will walk through fire for you if you do. Impeccable ground manners. Straight and cross ties, stands for farrier, loads easily, and hauls well. Restarted professionally this winter using natural horsemanship techniques, and has a solid foundation in liberty work. Rides walk, trot, canter, with a great balance of whoa and go. Very soft in the bridle and off leg yields, solid foundation and lots of potential! Walks off on a loose rein. Ridden out on the trails alone and with other horses. Will do best with someone who has a consistent program for him and is willing to take the time to build his confidence. Enriching My Life so I Can Enrich Others

When I was young, I always joked that horses ran in my blood. What I didn’t know, was there may have been more truth to that than I thought. With many names and faces lending in one way or another to my love for and my interactions with horses, I grew up with an insatiable need for the animal.

From the summer of 2017 to the spring of 2019, I interned for Nate and Amy Bowers of Bowers Farm in Fort Collins, Colorado. While under their tutelage, I had the pleasure of learning from Nate Bowers, horse driving master, trainer and all-around cowboy, who was able to give me a broad foundation in the art of c**t starting, problem horse training and cow horse work. I also learned from and competed with Amy Bowers, Parelli Natural Horsemanship Level 4 Instructor and three-day eventer. From her I was able to glean a wealth of information on the four different savvies of natural horsemanship as well as how they build a foundation for healthy competition within the horse world.

I am now living and teaching in the tri-state area of New England. At this time, I travel to offer both horse training and riding lessons, and am looking to build a community of like minded horse people who want to grow their knowledge and have fun at the same time. Whether you are new to horses and looking for a safe environment to learn, trying to get back into horses and rebuild your confidence, or looking to expand your relationship with your own personal horse, I look forward to speaking with you on how I can enrich your horsemanship!
