This is Slater!
Slater belongs to a previous client of ours. Slaterโs owner has taken what she learned with her previous dog (Poppy) and current guidance from us, to shape some awesome behaviors in him from the moment she adopted him.
In the video, he is giving great engagement and walking politely on the leash in Lowes. This can be very intimidating for most dog owners and puppies alike.
Most owners are greatly concerned with the end result when getting a new puppy. The moment you bring a new puppy home, you are training him/her. The most important thing you should work on when a dog comes home is building a solid and meaningful relationship. Without a strong relationship how can we expect our dog to want to listen/engage with us? It just wonโt happen.
Mastering First- building the relationship, consistency, setting boundaries and expectations with your dog, then the rest will fall into place more easily.

Meet the dogs at Adventure K9!
Nyx is a 6 month old German Shepherd and belongs to one of our trainers.
From a day at the beach to an off leash hike in the woods our dogs can do it all!
If you would like to be able to get out and enjoy the summer with your companion Adventure Canine can help!
Meet the dogs of Adventure Canine!
Say hello to Kaiser! He is a 2 year old doberman who belongs to one of our trainers here at Adventure Canine! Kaiser is a highly social well behaved boy, he is very dog neutral however is very much happy to play when given the chance and is a wonderful dog who helps build the confidence of many dogs that come train with us.
Don't let his size fool you, he is indeed a gentle giant! He's happy to play with a 5lb chihuahua to a large German shepherd! He's also helped raise a few puppies around the home as well.
He is currently working on becoming a certified explosives dog with his owner however due to his many allergies due to his poor breeding he may never get to actually perform in the field, this is why finding a reputable breeder is so important! Something we are more than happy to help you find. He also competes in Fastcat and Agility!
But at the end of the day he is a very much loved family pet who is happy to help his owner with work and being able to enjoy the outdoors with correct and responsible training.
Look at Theo go! His confidence has come leaps and bounds since coming to train with us.
One thing we pride ourselves here at Adventure Canine is not only your dogs mental and emotional health, we care about their physical health as well. We do our best to get your dog in the best shape possible all the way around!
Many people come to us saying their dog isn't food motivated and typically the reason why is they may be a bit overweight. With that being said feel free to reach out to us on getting your dog on a good diet and exercise plan!
Happy training!

โจENRICHMENTโจ
Stormy is very insecure and under confident. How do we counteract that? We do activities/enrichment that make her use her brain and that push her outside her comfort zone(the unknown). In the video below, Stormy is working for her food by using her nose to find her food in a ball pit. This can cause Stormyโs confidence to grow while mentally wearing her out. This is only scratching the surface in Stormyโs training plan, but she is already starting to come out of her shell and her personality shines bright.
Most owners focus on physical activity versus doing a balanced mixture of both mental and physical exercise. Mental exercise is just as important as physical because if you only focus on physical exercise your dogs body becomes conditioned to the physical exercise and the physical exercise that used to make them tired, wonโt be enough anymore. While we want an in-shape dog, we also want to make sure we also have a well balanced one.

Stormy is getting a jumpstart on muzzle conditioning. She is dog reactive and moving to a pretty unique situation. We want to set her and her owners up for success on their new venture as well as help Stormy feel secure!
โจMUZZLE CONDITIONING โจ
There is a huge stigma surrounding muzzles. Dogs require them for a wide variety of reason ranging from preventing dogs from eating inappropriate objects to preventing a dog from being a bite risk.
Regardless of the use of a muzzle, itโs crucial to properly condition your dog to view it in a positive way. Just like we would crate training, we pair a high value reward (most likely food) with a neutral/negative object(muzzle, nail clippers, crates, etc). We break it down into baby steps. Making sure to never move on to the next step before the dog is ready and has mastered the one before it.
โจPROPERLY FITTED MUZZLESโจ
-Most dog owners, veterinarians, and some trainers think the job of a muzzle is to keep the mouth shut and should be snug. Thatโs the furthest thing from the truth. A muzzle should have plenty of room for a full pant, still be able to drink water, and eat food.
-If a dog is a bite risk, then you should be investing in a good quality wire muzzle (Dean & Tyler or Leerburg). The most common muzzles we see are the cloth ones or the Baskerville basket muzzles you can buy from almost any pet store. These stress your dog out even more and your dog can still bite through both of these types of muzzles.
All things concerning muzzle conditioning can be overwhelming for almost any pet owner. Here are a few links to help fit the best fit for your dog:

Padfoot is here! Today is his first day here with us at Adventure Canine. The first thing we did is take a nice decompression walk for him to get used to his new surroundings and take it easy. He's here for our 6 week program and in just the first few hours he's already learning to loose leash walk right out the gate! Stay tuned for updates on this sweet boy.
Just a friendly reminder to start desensitizing your dog to the sound of fireworks BEFORE they encounter them on New years! Many people forget this crucial step in a dog or puppies life and it can become a big issue later on. Remember to be preemptive in your dogs training to set them up for success later on!

Did you know that the canine olfactory inputs move through several different parts of the brain as compared to other sensory inputs?
Many areas of the dogs brain receive this olfactory information via various neural circuits that serve several different functions such as food and mate selection, memory, imprinting, motivation, emotion and learning!
In other words, allowing your dog to use their nose is very mentally stimulating, like a high intensity workout for their brain. This leads to a more physically AND mentally satisfied dog.
