Partnership is a choice the dog makes, not a result we demand.

Keepers shared a win in class yesterday that captures exactly what that looks like in the real world. While out for a walk over the holidays, Fish snatched a live vole right out of the grass mid-stride. In that split second, every predatory instinct in a sighthound screams to take over. Usually, that’s the moment the connection breaks and the dog "disappears" into the chase drive.

But Fish didn’t disappear. He stayed present. He took a breath, released the vole, and moved back into the flow of the walk with Keepers.

There was no frantic management. No loud cues. No fight for control. He chose the connection over the prize on his own. That is the clarity we work for—a dog who has the agency and desire to stay in the partnership even when the world gets loud.

🎄 OH POOCHELLA, OH POOCHELLA!

Sometimes in Scent Work, the most important thing you bring to the search area isn't just your nose, it's your holiday spirit.

This week, the building got a little bit brighter when Poochella arrived for class. Most dogs come ready to work, but Poochella came ready to glow in her full Christmas tree dress! 👗✨

There is something so magical about watching a dog in a festive dress put her nose to the ground and get to work. It’s the perfect reminder that our dogs are specialists who can do it all; they can be high-level searchers and high-fashion icons all at the same time.

Poochella has a way of lighting up the room no matter what time of year it is, but seeing her sniff out hides while draped in tinsel and ornaments? That is a special kind of Starlight. 🌟

Many of you know, at QnB, we have our own language.

If you’ve been in our classes for a while, or seen us at trials, you know the vibe. When a dog comes in absolutely on fire, full of passion, excitement, and that "let's have some fun" energy, you’ll hear us call it RtW, "Ready to Work." RTW isn't about the results, it’s about that high-voltage spark where the dog is vibrating with the joy of the search.

But our Friday at 3PM fellowship, has a level that goes even higher. If you’ve ever heard someone suddenly yell out "WEINER WORTHY!", you’ve probably seen some puzzled looks from the people around us.

For them, Weiner Worthy is the ultimate evolution of that passion. It’s what we call those runs that are a masterpiece. It’s that perfect search where the dog is in full flow, the human is perfectly in sync, and the alert is so crisp it deserves the highest honor our resident "hot dog provider", Kathy, can offer! 🌭✨

What started as a fun inside joke has become the definition of our community. It’s a celebration of the Wayward spirit, for the dogs who search with their whole souls and the handlers who cheer the loudest for each other, every win, big or small.

This week, two of our incredible students took that lore and made it official. Alisa and Ade went above and beyond to surprise the group by purchasing and creating custom medals to designate this epic group.

Because sometimes, a ribbon isn't enough. Sometimes, you need to know that you are truly WEINER-WORTHY. 🥇

This is what community looks like. It’s support, it’s laughter, and it’s honoring the unique magic each team brings to the search area.

To my students: Thank you for keeping the fun in the work and for being brave enough to find your own Way.
