🐷 The Great Piglet Caper of Putnam County 🐷
About a week ago, a woman named Betty posted in Lost and Found Pets of Putnam County, FL about an unexpected visitor—a tiny piglet running loose in a retirement community. Residents tried to catch the little escape artist, but he was too quick, too agile… too smart. Enter Berry, the pig-whisperer-in-training, who set up a trap near Betty’s home.
Despite multiple sightings and valiant attempts by Berry and the residents, Piglet Houdini evaded capture. On Sunday, after finishing chores, Berry and I set out on Operation Piglet Rescue, stopping by Hitchcock’s for some gourmet pig bait (aka snacks). But no piglet. Midday heat likely had him in hiding.
We decided to scout the surrounding area, and thank goodness he hadn’t wandered off. Outside the safety of the community, we saw loose dogs that wouldn’t think twice about making a piglet their afternoon snack. The area was sketchy, and Piglet Houdini’s odds of survival weren’t looking great.
A few days later, another call. Berry rushed over, and came prepared… but once again, the piglet outmaneuvered them. A gentleman actually got his hands on him—only for Piglet Houdini to wiggle free like a greased-up magician.
But a piglet’s gotta eat.
A couple of days later, Berry got another tip-off, set the trap again… and bingo! Piglet secured.
I get the call from Berry:
📞 "Can you go pick up the pig?"
Sure, because this is my life now.
When I arrived, I met Betty, a lovely lady (and now an honorary piglet godmother). Her little terrier was inside barking, likely thinking, "Mom, why is there a farm animal in the driveway?" The whole community had rallied behind this pint-sized porker, cheering him on like a tiny, four-legged celebrity.
Betty had grown attached—understandable, considering he had been providing free entertainment for weeks. But on a serious note, the urgency was real. Some people were making threats to shoot the little guy, claimin
When Blue first came to us, he was battling an ear infection, and it's been an on-and-off issue ever since. Recently, his condition worsened, and it required stitches to help with the healing process.
Berry has been taking Blue to and from his vet appointments and has been closely involved in his care. Today, since it was close to closing time and I was nearby, I picked him up from the vet. Although Blue didn't get his stitches out today, we did leave with some new meds and instructions to return in a week or two for another follow-up. I feel like he has been at the vet every week for the past month.
The good news is that Blue is on the mend, and we're hopeful this is another step toward him being fully healed. He’s such a trooper, and we’re so grateful for the care he’s received so far. 💙
Here’s the recent Beth update.
Beth was adopted and transported to Massachusetts. Thank goodness for that fur coat. You know it’s cold up there.
Beth is living a wonderful life. Her best life.
There is much love in that household. ❤️❤️
The bed Beth sleeps on was Jellybeans “Princess Bed” now Beth’s Princess Bed.
🐾 Back story: Jellybean and her 10 unborn babies were saved from a high kill animal control in 2013 she was set to be euthanized.
Lynn adopted Jelly when we showcased adoption events at Pet Supermarket.
When Jelly passed Lynn absolutely heartbroken. I suggested Beth as Beth reminded me so much of Jellybean and felt it would be an excellent match.

An End of an Era and Hope for the Future
In 2013, our rescue efforts were vastly different. Back then, we relied on a red Avalanche as our adoption event vehicle. It could only hold two medium dogs or several small ones, and it was Berry’s daily driver. Every weekend, we loaded dogs, crates, and supplies into the truck, drove to Petco, unloaded everything, set up, then did it all over again—four times in a single day. With adoption events happening every Saturday and Sunday, it was exhausting, but we did what we had to do for the dogs.
I dreamed of something better, and one day, that dream came true. Lucy’s (Jellybeans baby)Lucy’s pet-parent , who worked at a dealership in St. Augustine, heard me venting about the Avalanche and said, “I have the vehicle for you.” He sent me a link, and when I saw it, my heart leapt. Berry and I went to see it that evening. Even in the dark, the van gleamed. Sitting in the driver’s seat, it was clean, fresh, and full of possibilities. I knew this van would change everything.
And it did. For years, the van became the heart of our rescue operations. It carried dogs to adoption events, transported animals from animal control, brought rescues to vet visits, and even handled emergency hospital runs. It was dependable, never stranding us, even when it needed repairs like new tires, AC fixes, or fuel line work. This van wasn’t just a vehicle—it was our lifeline.
But a couple of months ago, that chapter came to a close when someone plowed into the van’s right side in a Costco parking lot. Watching the tow truck take her away was heartbreaking. I know it’s just a van, but it represented so much hard work, sacrifice, and love. It made a tough job a little easier and gave us countless memories.
I want to extend a heartfelt thank you to Dawn and Mike Batten, who sponsored the van’s much-needed AC repair, and to Jennifer McCormick for sponsoring the beautiful tires. Knowing we were transporting the dogs safely and com
Today, Beth is beginning her journey to her forever home in Massachusetts with her wonderful new mom, Lynn! To ensure her safety along the way, I took an extra precaution beyond her microchip: I purchased a Pawscout Smart Pet Tag for her.
The Pawscout tag is a fantastic tool for pet parents who want an extra layer of security. Unlike a traditional microchip, which requires a vet or shelter to scan, the Pawscout tag connects to an app on your smartphone, allowing you to track your pet in real-time and create a community around them. This tag helps keep tabs on your pet’s location, sends alerts if they wander too far, and even lets you share “lost pet” alerts with other Pawscout users in the area, who can help bring your pet back home.
Beth will be safely transported by Blue Collar Pet Transport, and while I’m confident she’s in good hands, the Pawscout tag offers a bit of peace of mind. It’s a small step to make sure that, GOD forbid, if anything were to happen, she can quickly and easily be located.
