Few Safety Reminders coming up to the 4th.

- Make sure your pets have tags on their collars and their chip info is updated. The shelter is so full that Intake is closed right now.

- BEFORE fireworks and celebrations begin bring your pups inside, secure them in a calm space and turn on the radio or TV to distract them from some of the noise. Do not let your pets outside unsupervised. Even if you’re in the yard watching fireworks, it’s easy to be distracted from a dog who is distressed. Make sure your celebrations are not their trauma.

-BBQs often include a lot of foods that could be toxic to dogs. Make sure you’re watching your adult drinks and your barbecue offerings so that there are no emergency room trips.

- Providing a lot of positive stimulation and exercise for your dog earlier in the day will help them be calm in the evening. Also, having things like thundervests and busy toys available for them can help distract nervous pets.

Happy Birthday Sit.Fetch.Stay!! 11 years in Austin and we are thankful every day for all the pets we get to love on and be loved right back. We typically do something special to mark the date and today we did as well. We took time to give special snuggles to every pup and cat and even a ferret that we were lucky enough to take care of today.

Running a small business is hard in any environment. But especially when you’re working with living beings. but for every hard day, there is a pack of pups who make it worth it.

With humility and Gratitude I say thank you to everyone who has entrusted us with their homes and furry/feathered family. And I wish a happy happy birthday to the company I love so much!

Them: My dog is kind of a picky eater.

Me: I wonder what that means, let me think about what kind of picky eaters I have….. (besides special prescription diets which are easy you just have to be very very careful about)

- the dog that has to be fed outside on the deck with me sitting on the steps with my back turned. (if I walk away he will not eat, if I look at him he will not eat.)

- the MANY MANY MAAAANY who must be hand fed.

- the one who sometimes needs to be hand fed or fed off a tea towel (we absolutely love you, but you know who you are)

- the one who needs to be hand fed a single piece of kibble at a time that they can then take to their bed to eat. (I cannot be near the bed with the bowl. This must happen on opposite sides the room.)

- The dog who will only eat in my bedroom with me standing outside the door NOT inside the room. (how does he know when I walk away? 🤷‍♀️)

-The dog who refuses to eat if they can see her sister, and her sister who will only eat sitting on a specific seat on the couch. (to be fair I think I created the couch pattern.)

- The dog who will only eat if I have a single finger in the bowl.

- The dog who only eats raw chicken legs (I am allergic to chicken) and likes to play fetch with me for a while before they tear into it. (we love you too, sorry I never told you about the chicken allergy. I just wear gloves it’s fine.)

- The dogs who have complicated homemade meals (that’s easy peasy really but we do appreciate when it is precooked and frozen in flat bags! Just for time and space)

- The dog who has to rotate out flavors because if they are offered the same thing within the same two days, they refused to eat for multiple days.

- The dog that needs me to pretend to prepare their kibble on a cutting board.

- The dog who will not eat until I have pretended to taste it myself.

- The dog who will only eat if they are sitting at a dining room chair.

- The dog who will only eat if there is half a cup of canned green beans on top of their food. NOT French cut!

-the many dogs who need their food to be warmed up in the microwave or with warm water (not too much!)

- The dog who will only eat their food if there are ice cubes in the bowl (but not too big so I usually have to break up my ice cubes a bit)

- The dog who will only eat if I’m holding the bowl, but not fully standing up and not sitting down. I have to be standing up and bent fully at the waist, holding it at their mouth level.

-The dog who has to be fed with a tennis ball in their bowl, but can’t be left alone or they will eat the tennis ball.

-The dog who has to be fed out of a slow feeder, but can’t be left alone because they’ll eat the slow feeder

I’m sure I’m missing several. Moral of the story when you say your dog’s a picky eater… No problem we got you!

Here’s a fun tip! If you set your petsitters home as an approved place on their Apple tag your dog won’t make little jingle noises in the night and make your pet sitter think they are going crazy!

Sharing for a friend, definitely not because sometimes I wander through the house trying to find a noise that is literally following me.
