Honey Bun is very demure ✨ very mindful ✨
Honey Bun is even sweeter than her name! This senior girl is calm, quiet, and full of affection. She will be the most loyal companion, and deserves a home where she gets as much love as she gives. She loves to go for slow, meandering walks, where she gets lots of pets and affection from her neighbors. When it is time for her eye medication, she will lay in your lap and turn her head to make it as easy as possible for you. She is very polite and never jumps on people or furniture, but if you get down on her level, she loves a good snuggle. Honey Bun is the loveliest girl who deserves nothing but the best in her golden years! Come meet her today!

Beautiful Almond came to us as a stray with a severe leg injury that impeded her ability to walk normally. After medical examination, it was determined it was best to amputate her leg. Almond has recovered well and is ready to find her forever home! She would love a calm house and family that understands she can get overly stimulated easily, but still has a lot of love to give. Once she's comfortable, she becomes a total lap cat lovebug, her foster told us. Come meet this gorgeous gal today!

Azalea is the definition of an easy going and sweet as can be dog. If you're looking for a companion to take on walks or just hang around the house with, Azalea could easily be the one. This sweet girl is always on the lookout for someone to give her pets and treats, and she'll gladly hangout by your side for as long as you'll have her. She doesn't care too much for other dogs, but we think she'd fit right into any family with older kids where she can be the center of attention all day long.
Some of our volunteers had some fantastic things to say about Azalea. She's good in the car, loves to go for easy walks where she can take it slow, and is non reactive to passing joggers and dogs. Miss Azalea will fit right in to any family that wants a darling new member to snuggle and love for years to come. If you'd like to meet her, come ask today!

Zeppelin is here to prove there's no love like that of a senior dog! This handsome 7 year old is a joy to be around and has plenty of good times still ahead of him. Zeppelin loves time outside. Whether a short and leisurely stroll or a nice long hike, he is a perfect buddy with great leash manners. His other favorite activity of all time? Being fawned over with petting, scratches, and brushing! Zeppelin is relaxed and easygoing with other dogs when he goes to our pooch playgroups and would fit right in with any dogs you have at home. This boy deserves the best home for his golden years. He doesn't ask for much: give Zeppelin some of your time, and he will give you all of his heart in return!

Who doesn't love an underdog? Silas came into us inexperienced and unsure, but his confidence has grown in leaps and bounds in his time with our team! This handsome young guy with his silky short fur and perky ears has picked up plenty of new hobbies lately. He enjoys hikes, cooling off in a kiddie pool, and being pampered with dog cookies. Silas is used to living with canine companions and would love having a doggie sibling again, but cats are not his jam. Give him a little patience when he's getting to know you, and you'll be rewarded with all the love in the world in Silas's warm brown eyes every time you come home. If you're ready to help Silas write the next triumphant chapter in his underdog story, come meet him today!

Lincoln has been adopted! 🥳 Sweet senior Lincoln came to us battling dental disease and a chronic upper respiratory infection. Luckily, we were able to treat him with a dental workup and the proper medication. Lincoln also has “mitten” paws as he is a polydactyl, which makes him even more unique! He’s a calm and affectionate cat with so much love to give, and we are so happy he has found his forever home to spend his golden years.

Dear Theodosia can't wait to put a smile on your face! Spunky, silly, and playful, her demeanor is as adorable as the day is long. This young lady came in as a stray and has a lot to learn about the world, but with a can-do attitude, she is learning so fast. There's no toy Theodosia doesn't love. Squeaky, chewy, bouncy: the joy of watching her enthusiasm while she chases a ball or settles down with a bone can't be beat.
Theodosia is new to meeting other dogs but has warmed up quickly and become a favorite zoomy playmate for many of the pooches here! She's a sensitive girl who loves pets and snuggles but gets nervous about hugging and restraint, so she will do best in a home with adults who can respect her boundaries. Our staff and volunteers love watching Theodosia's confidence grow by the day and her fun-loving personality shine brighter and brighter. Come meet her in the Adoption Center and get ready to be blown away by this delightful girl!

October seems to be a lot of people's favorite season, just like Miss October seems to be a lot of people's favorite dog here at AHS! This 3 year old pooch is just as beautiful as her namesake and just as sweet as pumpkin pie. She would love to be part of any home with adults that can work with her on some of her nervous behaviors and give her the time and space she needs to warm up and adjust to being a wonderful pet. October remains a little unsure of other dogs and as a result we think she would do best in a home where she's the sole focus of attention for her new parents.
October is a master hiker at this point. Volunteers have told us that she's good in the car, walks well on the trail, and is friendly to all passing hikers. She would make a great companion for hiking on the parkway or just strolling through the park. If you're looking for a sweet and fun new family member, come meet October today!

Kitten season doesn't show any signs of slowing down! If you find a litter of kittens, don't jump to scoop them up. It's not always needed or recommended. You'll want to stop, watch, and wait. If the kittens are stable and seem happy and healthy, keep an eye out for mom--the best place for a kitten is with their mama!

Turtle Dove came to us weighing about 21 pounds! As an obese cat, her health was suffering and she was unable to groom herself. With the help of a dedicated foster, we put her on a weight loss journey that included healthy proportions and intentional exercise. Our goal was for her to be able to groom herself before getting adopted, and she accomplished it! By the time she was adopted, she was down to 15.6 pounds. She is such a sweet lady, and we are beyond thrilled for her to continue her health journey with her forever family. Swipe to see how far she has come!

Senior dogs are WINNING today! We’re thrilled to announce that we received one of the 100 grants awarded by The Grey Muzzle Organization to support lifesaving efforts for senior dogs. This critical funding supports animal shelters and rescues across the USA and Nepal to develop senior-focused programs, including medical and dental care, surrender prevention, hospice care, and adoption incentives.
This will allow us to help more senior dogs thrive in their golden years. Thank you to Grey Muzzle and their supporters for this opportunity to save and improve the lives of senior dogs nationwide.

Luke is the goofiest, most energetic, warm-hearted 8-year-old dog you will ever meet. Luke came into our care suffering from an intense skin allergy. With a strict diet, and consistent medicated baths from our dedicated staff 3-4 times a week, Luke made a full transformation. He later moved to a foster home where he was able to continue healing! Here is what his foster family had to say:
"This guy is golden! He is full of love, so easy going, and still has a very manageable appetite for fun too! And yes, he checks off the boxes on so many potential adopter's wish lists... Kid-friendly, check! Cat-friendly, check! House & crate trained, check! Good leash-walking skills, loves a car ride, good manners, a perfect gentleman at bath time, check, check, check!"

A couple of weeks ago, some of our team had the opportunity to join Brother Wolf Animal Rescue for a presentation put on by National Kitten College highlighting some new changes and advances in neonatal kitten care! Thanks to a partnership with Revival Animal Health (who makes our favorite puppy and kitten formula to help our babies grow big and strong!), we were able to learn and discuss even more about specialized kitten care. They even got a chance to tour our wonderful facility and meet our foster team! We are so thankful for the large donation of supplies they brought with them to share with us! So many of our kittens in foster homes, like Guava, Kiwano, and Melon, have already benefited from them!

Meet Lincoln! Here is what his foster had to say: "Lincoln has been in foster for 3 weeks. Lincoln is an old soul who loves attention and rubbing on you. At times he will put his paws around your neck to hug you. He plays a bit with his string toy but seems to like hanging out in the sun much more. A cat after my own heart! Lincoln does love his scratch box as any good cat should.
Lincoln has "mitten " paws as he is a polydactyl which makes him even more unique. Lincoln will love a home where he can have lots of attention and calm. He will provide his new owner with lots of love in return.''

Beautiful and poised, Tulip is the perfect companion for a stroll through the garden or a snuggle on the couch! At four years old, she's past all that silly puppy nonsense but is still active enough to accompany you on adventures. Whenever Tulip goes on a walk with you, her tail wags a mile a minute. She doesn't enjoy the company of other dogs, but she is open to trying things out with feline roommates. Peridot Gets Her Insulin
Peridot has been with us for exactly one year. Though she has been living life luxuriously in the home of her adoption ambassador, she is eagerly waiting for her forever family. This beautiful lady is 7 years old and is diabetic. Diabetes in a cat can seem scary, but Peridot has effortlessly become accustomed to her insulin being administered and always knows when it is time! In this video, she is lovingly and calmly sitting with her adoption ambassador mom to get her insulin! Dog Playgroup
Everybody loves playgroup time 😍 We use playgroup as a way to evaluate how a dog does with other dogs. It's a great way to socialize dogs to other dogs and people, as well as let our high energy players blow off some much needed steam.
Let's get Virgo into a home! This vibrant 10-month-old boy is looking for either a loving foster home OR a loving forever home! Virgo has learned his basic manners and is eager to continue loving on people in a home. He wears a Snoot Loop to help him learn leash-walking skills and understand the size of his growing body! A Family Made Whole Again
💕✨🏠 Beautiful Reunion at Buncombe County Animal Shelter 💕✨🏠 In November, a couple came to the shelter after finding a dog running in the middle of the road at midnight in Swannanoa. An adorable Boston Terrier, collared and dragging a leash, it was clear that someone's beloved pet was missing. Once they arrived at the shelter, our Community Sheltering Team immediately assisted them in using our community microchip scanning station, and low and behold, the dog was chipped! With a phone call, the work of our bilingual staff member, and hope, the owners were contacted and immediately rushed to the shelter after a sleepless night of searching for their missing pet. When the owners arrived, they clamored out of their car, followed by two other Boston Terriers. The found Boston Terrier, who was shy and barely wanted to eat, changed completely and began to jump and leap for joy as he greeted the other two dogs and his family. Because of the compassionate care of a Good Samaritan who was willing to care for this found pet overnight and take the actions to reunite him with his owners, a family is now whole again. ❤️

We’ll be honest, names can be deceiving. This gentle giant, Mouse, is an 85lb mass of sweetness. This precious boy is looking for his forever home and would love for you to take a chance on him. One of his favorite activities of all time is carrying around his favorite toys in his mouth so that all his favorite people can see them! Mouse is extremely well-mannered and knows Sit and his working on Come. He loves playing fetch and is very trainable thanks to his big noggin! He loves all people over dogs and would prefer to the only doggie in our home.
