Happy on a Leash Dog walks & training + pet sitting for all pets. Bonded & insured. Certified in pet first aid & CPR. Reliable, professional care.
(12)

Everyone is so busy, it can be difficult to find the time to give your pets the attention & exercise they need. By allowing Happy On A Leash to care for your dog, you can be sure that your dog receives daily exercise that is appropriate for his/her age and breed. I provide the opportunity to improve your dog's social skills and learn the 7 basic commands (sit, stay, come, down, leave it, no, & off

). If you are going to be away on vacation or on business, I will work with you to arrange a schedule of walks and visits to make sure your dog (or other pet) is well-taken care of while you are gone. I am bonded, insured, and certified in Pet CPR & First Aid. I am happy to provide references.

Do you ever leave music on for your dogs? Streaming services use algorithms to help curate playlists for each person’s individual taste and help introduce us to new music, but can it make something our dog will love? Spotify launched a Pet Playlist feature four years ago after sharing a statistic that 71% of pet parents play music for their pets. But what kind of music is right for your pet?

Classical music has been shown to decrease barking. If you're looking for a great piece of music to start with, The Four Seasons by Vivaldi was found to have a very positive response in kenneled dogs, according to a Scottish SPCA study.

Some pet parents aren't the biggest fans of classical music, and that's okay! Reggae, soft rock, and spa-like music have also been found to help reduce stress and anxiety in dogs. On the other hand, genres like hard rock, grunge, heavy metal, pop, and rap usually have the opposite effect. These genres' faster tempos are known to cause agitation, hostility, and restlessness in pups.

Ideally, you should avoid playing songs for your pooch that feature loud percussion and deep bass. These noises sound very similar to thunderstorms, fireworks, sirens, and other sounds that dogs tend to dislike.

Frequencies also impact how much animals enjoy music. Dogs’ ears are built differently than human ears. They hear twice as much as humans. Long, sustained sounds are calming for dogs. If you want to try leaving playlists on for your dog, watch how they respond when you try different options. They may have preferences that you can see when observing their behaviors.

Let us know if you leave music on for your pets!

The Wake County Animal Center is facing a heartbreaking situation – we are critically full and, if space on the adoption floor isn’t freed up by adoptions, reclaims by owners, fosters or transfers to rescue partners, we will be forced to create space by euthanasia. Staff have put together a list of at-risk animals, which has only been done one other time in recent years. Most of these beloved animals have been in our care for over 90 days (with some closer to 175 days). While the Center is completely full in both the public and staff-only areas, leaving no room for new animals, please understand this difficult decision is a last resort. In an urgent effort to save lives and preserve our eight-year record of not euthanizing a healthy, adoptable animal for space, we are participating in month-long the Clear the Shelters event. During this event, all adoption fees will be waived in hopes of finding loving homes for the wonderful animals in our care. This adoption promotion will take place from Friday, August 9th through Sunday, September 8th.

THIS IS A COURTESY POST. The current foster family is helping the rescue group find another foster or a fur-ever home for Summo. He was given to the rescue group because the person for whom he was bought did not have time/interest in dealing with him. I have spoken with the current foster dad and he was very complimentary of Summo--said that Summo will choose belly & head rubs over food!

Summo is an 11-month-old 78-pound Australian Shepherd Mix. He is crate-trained and house-trained. He is very playful and will need lots of time to be active as he is young. Summo does great on a leash and is very loving. He loves to play with dogs his size but still needs some training due to his size. Summo loves getting pets and is a huge love bug. With consistency and time, Summo would be the perfect large dog addition to any family.

If you are interested in adopting Summo, please apply online at www.crisisdogsnc.org.

Upcoming Local Vaccine and Microchip Clinics in Raleigh

The importance of keeping our pets up to date on their vaccines cannot be overstated. Puppy and kitten vaccines protect an immature immune system and yearly boosters carry that protection throughout adulthood for our pets. Getting your pets microchipped and keeping the owner information current can help ensure your pets can be returned home quickly and safely if they are ever lost.

Cary Animal Services wants to let citizens know of a few opportunities to get low cost vaccines and microchips sponsored by our neighbors at Raleigh Animal Control. Please take advantage of these services to keep your pets health, happy, and HOME!

We were recently made aware of a scam targeting pet owners with missing pets.

The scammer seeks out distraught pet owners who post on social media about their missing pets, finds their phone numbers and calls them after normal business hours pretending to be an employee of the Wake County Animal Center. The scammer has also manipulated the caller ID, so the phone number the fake employee is calling from shows up as the Wake County Animal Center on the targets’ phones.

The fake employee then tells the owner that the Center has their pet, but the pet needs emergency surgery. The scammer requests money sent via electronic payment systems to perform it.

The Wake County Animal Center will not ask you for payment after hours. We will never request money via Cash App, Venmo, PayPal, Zelle, etc. We will not send a code to owners to confirm they are real people. We do not expect pet owners to pay us for emergency services (we do not provide emergency services).

The Center does call the owners of pets who are brought to the Center and have a microchip with contact information. However, these calls only take place during regular business hours, and staff will not ask for electronic payment of any kind.

Please do not fall victim to this scam!
