Stanley, a lovely 2.5 year old betta, had a recent history of odd growths on his tail. No medications had any effect on it, because this is cancer. Typically, a very benign type of neoplasia known as a chromatophroma or pigment cell tumor. These are VERY COMMON in bettas and do not typically cause any health concerns. But please, ask your fish vet if you’re worried about your fish! If they get very large, they can make it difficult for your fish to swim and will require debulking.

This pretty goldfish had a nasty injury to her eye that required surgery. After removing the affected eye (and one naughty tank mate) she’s feeling 1000x better and went right back to eating. These surgeries are so satisfying since the fish always feel so much better right away.
