Founded in 1994, the Michigan Animal Adoption Network (MAAN), is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization for animal rescue in the Metro Detroit area. We frequently engage in special promotions and fundraising efforts. The Network is always looking for new and different ways to educate the public, to raise money to continue its rescue efforts, and to find loving homes for homeless

pets. Founded in 1994, the Michigan Animal Adoption Network (MAAN) is a 501(c) 3 non-profit organization in Metro Detroit. MAAN’s mission is to decrease dog and cat homelessness and overpopulation. MAAN provides proper housing, straw, food, supplies and sterilization to animals in need. It also provides education on proper pet care to pet owners. MAAN frequently engages in special promotions and fundraising efforts on behalf of the animals. It continually strives for new and different ways to educate the public, to raise money to continue its low-cost spay/neuter program and street rescue efforts. To date, MAAN has placed more than 6,500 dogs/cats through the Adopt-A-Pet program and visited over 155,000 addresses to offer assistance through the Animal Care Network (ACN). ACN has rescued over 19,000 dogs/cats and spayed/neutered nearly 11,000 animals. These programs have received national recognition from Nickelodeon News, Best Friends Animal Society and received an Animal Planet award nomination. This organization survives solely on donations from the public to continue their lifesaving efforts.

‼️WARNING: GRAPHIC PHOTO‼️

From our President Marie…

I'm a firm believer we are put in places or situations where we are needed. We decide whether or not to step in to make a difference.

After having to help our outreach dog, Sparkles cross the rainbow bridge last evening, this poor kitten came across my path this morning on my way to work.

While driving on 8 Mile, I noticed there was something in the road in the middle of the right lane. Of course, I turned around and as I got closer I noticed it was a kitten. It was not laying on it's side, however, curled up in a ball. I found a driveway to pull over and got out of my van with a blanket. Initially, I assumed it was dead, however, as I approached, it let out a painful meow.

I was shocked to see it was still alive, but barely. I had to move quick due to oncoming traffic. I was not going to let it get run over in front of my eyes. I covered it with a blanket and made certain it could not get away.

I got back to my van and had a more weighted blanket and covered it in a ball, so it could not get loose. I called our team at my vet hospital (West Woodward Animal Hospital) to let them know I was on the way and needed immediate help.

Upon arrival, 4 of us started working on her immediately. It seems she had been hit by a car with a broken jaw, leg and spine. She was also hypothermic and bleeding.

Sadly, she did not make it. I was in the right place at the right time to not let her suffer alone for who knows how long.

Rest pain-free little one. Two euthanasias in 12 hours was a bit much! Please forgive me for the graphic photo. It's what we see so very often.

Happy Giving Tuesday! 🩵

is all about celebrating each and every single act of generosity we have to offer. is a global generosity movement unleashing the power of radical generosity.

This year, we have a goal of $5,000 to help the animals we service. We hope to reach our fundraising goal by no later than December 31, 2024.

was created in 2012 as a simple idea: a day that encourages people to do good. Since then, it has grown into a global movement that inspires hundreds of millions of people to give, collaborate, and celebrate generosity. We cannot wait to see how much good we can do for animals in need.

From our President Marie:

"Sometimes, the most compassionate care you can offer an animal, is to help them cross the Rainbow Bridge.

Meet Sparkles. We have visited her as part of our Animal Care Network outreach efforts for the last 13 years. Yesterday, during our visit, it was obvious she was struggling with a extremely large cancerous tumor on her foot. I'll spare everyone the photo. She had also not eaten in a couple of days and the odor from the infectious tumor was nauseating.

I was able to set up an appointment this afternoon for her owner to bring her in to West Woodward Animal Hospital, to end her suffering.

What's so interesting is that in 13 years of knowing her, we were never able to touch her, as she was too aggressive and unpredictable.

Today was different. I let her roam freely as she hopped around my entire building and office, smelling every scent she could. She then came over to sit by me and I petted her for quite a while. I even got a lick to the face! I always show only good energy when helping an animal cross so they are not scared.

Although her owner was not able to stay as she crossed, I ALWAYS stay with them so they knew someone who cared about them was there to provide comfort.

Thank you to our team, who also knew her and made a difference in her life. Now, no more suffering. Sparkles will forever shine in our hearts."

❄️ BRING YOUR PETS INSIDE! WEATHER ALERT/TIPS FOR OUTDOOR PETS ❄️

*If you know anyone who keeps pets outdoors, persuade them to bring them inside.
*Low temperatures, winds, and precipitation can lead to illness, hypothermia, and death.
*Dogs and cats can suffer from frostbite in a matter of minutes, mainly on feet, ears, and tails.
*Local laws require that if dogs are kept outdoors, the owner must supply the dog with "proper" shelter
*If kept outside, use a doghouse that is not oversized since the dog needs to retain body heat
*Put a wind flap on the dog house door
*Plenty of dry straw and access to fresh, unfrozen water
*Snow is not sufficient to hydrate animals, water bowls freeze
*Doghouses must be elevated off the ground so they don’t freeze on the bottom.
*If animals must be kept outside, fill doghouses with clean, dry straw and face away from the wind
*Blankets and towels only freeze when used in a doghouse
*Double up on food intake during cold weather, extra weight keeps them warmer
*Feral cats need shelter and protection from the elements
*Felines who spend time outside can freeze, get lost, get injured, or climb into the bottom of warm cars for warmth
*Salt and other chemicals can irritate the pads of animal’s feet
* If you put your pet in the garage or basement, beware of toxic fluids/poison such as antifreeze, d-con, and other chemicals which can be deadly to dogs and cats
*When you are cold enough to go inside, they are too!
*If you see a dog or cat in need of help, become that animal’s advocate. Speak with the owner, and if that fails to improve the situation, contact your local animal shelter, humane society, or animal control agency

More info:
-The main signs of mild hypothermia in dogs are excessive shivering, abnormal breathing, lethargy, lack of energy, eyes dilated, gums pale or bluish, inability to stand, collapsing.
-If you suspect your dog or cat has hypothermia, go to the veterinarian immediately!
