Founded in 1994, the Michigan Animal Adoption Network (MAAN), is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization for animal rescue in the Metro Detroit area. We frequently engage in special promotions and fundraising efforts. The Network is always looking for new and different ways to educate the public, to raise money to continue its rescue efforts, and to find loving homes for homeless

pets. Founded in 1994, the Michigan Animal Adoption Network (MAAN) is a 501(c) 3 non-profit organization in Metro Detroit. MAAN’s mission is to decrease dog and cat homelessness and overpopulation. MAAN provides proper housing, straw, food, supplies and sterilization to animals in need. It also provides education on proper pet care to pet owners. MAAN frequently engages in special promotions and fundraising efforts on behalf of the animals. It continually strives for new and different ways to educate the public, to raise money to continue its low-cost spay/neuter program and street rescue efforts. To date, MAAN has placed more than 6,500 dogs/cats through the Adopt-A-Pet program and visited over 155,000 addresses to offer assistance through the Animal Care Network (ACN). ACN has rescued over 19,000 dogs/cats and spayed/neutered nearly 11,000 animals. These programs have received national recognition from Nickelodeon News, Best Friends Animal Society and received an Animal Planet award nomination. This organization survives solely on donations from the public to continue their lifesaving efforts.

Sharing this again. Please share widely! Keep your pets inside except for when they need to go potty and report any pets that are left outside. The coldest temps of this winter are coming quickly.

Frigid temps are here for a bit. Pets should ONLY be outside for a potty break.

HOLY MOLY!

Manager Jenni went to Oakland County Animal Control & Pet Adoption Center today and left with an ENTIRE PALLET of litter🙀 ...just shy of an even ton!

This stuff is worth its weight in gold, especially in this winter weather when it is more essential than ever to keep cats indoors! These bags will all be right back out the door again to many delighted, grateful clients before we know it!

Thank you, Oakland County Animal Control & Pet Adoption Center!!!!

2025 started with a bit of a hiccup for the Animal Care Network! Our beloved (and frankly not very old) van, lovingly named "Van-essa," unexpectedly had her "check engine" light come on! Our Network Manager, Jenni and VP/Treasurer, Joe took quick action to get her serviced. We did not want to miss any time out on the streets offering outreach! Unfortunately, the bill was around $1,000.

"Van-essa" has to travel on rough terrain daily and carries valuable food and supplies. She must always be in tip-top shape! We hope you can assist us with this unexpected bill. Any amount is helpful and appreciated

❄️ BRING YOUR PETS INSIDE! WEATHER ALERT/TIPS FOR OUTDOOR PETS ❄️
*If you know anyone who keeps pets outdoors, persuade them to bring them inside.
*Low temperatures, winds, and precipitation can lead to illness, hypothermia, and death.
*Dogs and cats can suffer from frostbite in a matter of minutes, mainly on feet, ears, and tails.
*Local laws require that if dogs are kept outdoors, the owner must supply the dog with "proper" shelter
*If kept outside, use a doghouse that is not oversized since the dog needs to retain body heat
*Put a wind flap on the dog house door
*Plenty of dry straw and access to fresh, unfrozen water
*Snow is not sufficient to hydrate animals, water bowls freeze
*Doghouses must be elevated off the ground so they don’t freeze on the bottom.
*If animals must be kept outside, fill doghouses with clean, dry straw and face away from the wind
*Blankets and towels only freeze when used in a doghouse
*Double up on food intake during cold weather, extra weight keeps them warmer
*Feral cats need shelter and protection from the elements
*Felines who spend time outside can freeze, get lost, get injured, or climb into the bottom of warm cars for warmth
*Salt and other chemicals can irritate the pads of animal’s feet
* If you put your pet in the garage or basement, beware of toxic fluids/poison such as antifreeze, d-con, and other chemicals which can be deadly to dogs and cats
*When you are cold enough to go inside, they are too!
*If you see a dog or cat in need of help, become that animal’s advocate. Speak with the owner, and if that fails to improve the situation, contact your local animal shelter, humane society, or animal control agency
More info:
-The main signs of mild hypothermia in dogs are excessive shivering, abnormal breathing, lethargy, lack of energy, eyes dilated, gums pale or bluish, inability to stand, collapsing.
-If you suspect your dog or cat has hypothermia, go to the veterinarian immediately!

VERY important reminder!!! Cars are not just dangerous in the summer!

The dangers of leaving your pet in a cold car are real! During the winter, a chilled car can function as a rolling refrigerator. This is because they have little to no insulation. So, while your pet may be shielded from the outdoor elements, they are not protected from the cold temperatures. This implies that if they are left alone for too long, they may suffer from hypothermia, which occurs when their body temperature falls too low. If left untreated, hypothermia can lead to brain damage, coma, cardiac and respiratory failure, and even death. Please do not leave your pet alone in a vehicle! Take them inside with you or LEAVE THEM SAFELY AT HOME.

***BEFORE & AFTER***

Thanks to our wonderful supporters, when the Animal Care Network received a call from one of our long-term outreach clients who rescued a kitten with a severe eye injury, we knew we had to step in to help!

We scheduled an immediate enucleation (a surgical procedure that involves the complete removal of the eye [eyeball] from the socket) to prevent the eye from bursting and putting the kitten at extreme risk. Before, she was in pain. After, she is pain-free and happily playing with her mouse toy!

We also had her spayed while she was under anesthesia so that she did not have to have an additional procedure. This was a win/win for her!

Thank you donors for always coming through for our outreach animals! ❤️‍🩹
