ECHO Update.
Our sweetheart has been on meds for a week and had her recheck at the vet yesterday. While the infection and swelling have improved, she's now got a new issue. Her right eye has a small growth trying to grow on the retina. So....we have been referred to the Eye Clinic here in Pensacola. She needs to see a specialist to get the right plan in place for her surgeries because now we don't know where to start, AND it'll take a specialist to deal with the growth.
I told ya this girl is a hot mess....lol.
Her skin is healing wonderfully. She takes her medicated baths like a champ, and she's soooooo loving. She is worth every dime and every setback. ECHO deserves a chance to see. So we will do what it takes. We can't give up on her now.
For those that don't know, ECHO came to us from the Escambia County Shelter, where she had been on stray hold. They reached out and asked if we could save her because rescue was her only chance out. Not only is she suffering from demodex mange and sores all over her body and face, but she's also got entropion of BOTH lids on BOTH eyes. She's likely suffered with it most of her life, and it's been left untreated. Even more horrific is she was bred and forced to have babies on this condition!
Uggghhhh! People suck sometimes.
ECHO has a looooonnng road to recovery, but we will be here for her every step of the way.
Thank you to everyone who has helped with her medical costs. They are mounting, and we'd be in a real pickle without you, for sure. You make saving dogs like this possible.
Stay tuned for more updates.

Today's Glory Story is about the "why".
Why do I rescue?
ECHO is why I rescue. Just look at this angel and tell me what her life would be if the rescue hadn't saved her. She had no hope. She's been neglected to the point of brokenness and blindness. She is covered in sores and huge scabs. Half her hair is missing, and she's got pockets of infection from head to toe. She stinks, and she's so scared she won't even walk upright.
I was her.
I've walked a mile in her paws.
My only hope was to be rescued.
One perfect evening, on a wood deck outback of a friend's house in Cantonment, FL, my Savior did just that. He rescued me.
He never asked me to be perfect. He never pointed out my stink. He never even pointed out my shortcomings or failures. He simply loved me. And the only thing He asked of me was that I, in turn, love others.
The problem is, I didn't even know how to love. Life's traumas taught me to build walls so high and strong that they couldn't be penetrated.
When I asked the good Lord to teach me how to love, he sent me a rescue dog...and then another...and another...and another. Now, here we are, thousands of rescued dogs later.
I've learned that it's not just about saving dogs. It's about saving and helping humans, too. The Carrie in me thinks most people suck. The Christ in me sees that everyone has a story. Everyone becomes who they are due to how they see the world around them. God used broken dogs to show me how to love a broken world.
That's my "why".
Happy Sunday, friends. I hope your week is filled with eye-opening experiences of love, grace, and kindness.

Look at her peepers!!!
As you know, ECHO's eyes are incredibly infected and swollen due to an untreated congenital defect called entropion. Her eyelashes turn inward on both the top and bottom instead of out like normal lashes. This causes constant irritation to the eyeball itself and often permanent damage. We won't know how bad her entropion is until the infection and swelling are under control, but it appears to be the worst case I've ever seen. Someone neglected this baby horrifically, and she's been suffering most of her life. She gets eye medicine 3 times a day and eye l**e 3 times a day. For the first time this morning, she held her eyes open for almost a full minute after I put her meds in. I almost cried, seeing her beautiful face LOOKING at me. I don't know how clearly she sees, but she was sure trying to focus.
ECHO also has demodex mange and has sores literally from head to toe. She is healing, and the sores are drying, but that also means they split open and bleed. She let's me rub cream on all her boo-boos and just melts into my lap for cuddles. She's such a good girl.
And she thoroughly enjoyed exploring our outdoor lunch area at work today. The benches are short enough she could climb them....lol.

Stay tunes for more pupdates!

ECHO Update
This sweet angel has been with us for 24 hrs now, and she's an absolute delight. She loves to cuddle and have her belly rubbed. She is SUPER happy at meal times or snackie time, and she takes all her medicines like a champ.
It seriously hurts my heart to think how long this sweetheart has been suffering. She's about 3 1/2/4 years old. She has been bred and has babies before. Her eyes have had entropion her whole life, so we KNOW these infections aren't new. Lord only knows when it progressed to the point of near blindness. Her one eye is so damaged, we aren't sure if she'll have sight in that one even after treatment and surgery. But we are hopeful because we've seen many miracles in this rescue. And we would greatly appreciate your prayers for ECHO.
Thank you to everyone who donated yesterday for her medical care. There's no way we could do this without your help. Not only has her visit yesterday, and ALL of her meds and tests have been covered by your generosity, but we've got almost $900 left over. That will go a long way towards covering her upcoming vet care, and we'll even have some left to put towards her eye surgeries. Once she is healed enough for her surgeries, we will post an estimate and hopefully raise it fairly quickly. We just don't have any idea right now how many surgeries it will take or how much damage is done already to the eyes, but once she is healed a bit, we will have a better idea.
Thank you. thank you, THANK YOU again for helping us save ECHO'S life.
I promise to post more pics and updates soon.

ECHO Update
She is so very precious.
She can hardly see and she's a hot mess, but she's soooooo full of love. When you pet her, she presses into your hands and just groans with pleasure. What an angel.
ECHO is facing a mountain of obstacles in the near future. She desperately needs a couple of eye surgeries to correct her entropion issues. But we've got to get the infection under control first. She's been started on the appropriate medications and resting a lot. She adores being doted upon and being the focus of someone's attention. While she's got a long road to recovery, we have a ton of faith. We've seen enough miracles here to believe in one for ECHO and her eyesight. Stand with us in prayer, will you?
We will keep you updated on her progress and will post plenty of pics and videos along the journey.
Thank you to everyone who donated to her medical care. We've been able to cover her current bills and have a little left over to put towards her surgery when it's time. We couldn't save her without you. Thank you all, again.
Stay tuned.....

Well, ya know.....
I couldn't say "no" to one in such desperate need.
Meet ECHO. She's been at the Escambia Shelter on stray hold for the past week. This poor angel was found in horrific condition. She's underweight, has demodex mange, bacterial skin infections, BOTH eyes are seriously infected and have entropion badly, one eye is very damaged, half her fur is gone and she is covered in scabs. She's a hot mess, for sure. She can hardly see and can't even hold her eyes open longer than a couple of seconds.
ECHO has been started on antibiotics, anti-parasitics, medicated creams, eye ointment, and l**e, and has been vaccinated and heartworm tested. Her vet bills are already mounting. She's going to need surgery on BOTH eyes as well as being spayed. She'll also need more medications and medicated shampoos as well as supplies, bedding, jammies, and food.
If anyone has it in their heart to donate, PLEASE do. We have a donate link on our website at:

Today's Glory Story is about love. Pure love...the unconditional kind.
So many of our followers have stated that I should keep PEPPA PIG. We seem to be perfect together...and we are. She's absolutely amazing and soooooo easy to love. I, however, am not. At least not right now.
As you know, my entire life has been upended in the last 6 months. It's been trial after trial. As strong as I may appear to be, the truth is, I'm still extremely broken and "lost." My living situation is going to change as soon as my home sells. I have some minor medical things going on that I don't currently have insurance to deal with. And my financial stability is about to change dramatically.
I don't say all that so that you'll feel sorry for me. I'm simply explaining that I am not currently in a position mentally, physically, or financially to give PEPPA PIG everything she deserves in life. She deserves to be loved by someone who can provide for her every need AND spoil her rotten on top of that. She deserves a stable home where she can continue to thrive. And she certainly deserves a family who can give her the security and love she needs.
And so....BECAUSE I love her with everything in me, I will NOT be selfish and keep her from having the home she so desperately desires and deserves. I will gladly sacrifice my heart to ensure she gets the best life possible.
I'm a rescuer.
And iRescue because He first rescued me.
Happy Sunday, friends. I hope this week you'll reflect on the true meaning of love. It's more than just a feeling or emotion.

PEPPA PIG Update.
Our sweet, chunky potato is truly enjoying life these days. She has learned that toys are great fun and she's become quite the toy hoarder. She kennels wonderfully when I'm at work and thoroughly enjoys sleeping in my bed at night. She has to be touching me when sleeping....lol.
PEPPA PIG is about 3-4 years old and weighs in at 49 pounds. She is a bowling ball of love. She likes other dogs and enjoys playing. She is allergic to fleas and beef and will likely have skin allergy issues the rest of her life. If interested in adoption, you need to know that she will have ongoing medical care costs. She's a blue and white bully. iykyk She needs special food...sensitive skin and stomach...and her weight must be watched. She also needs medicated baths every couple of weeks to help maintain her skin integrity. It's all just part of owning a bully. To truly love one, you must be knowledgeable about their care and be able to provide what's necessary. Please don't apply just because of her pretty face.
That being said....we will begin taking applications for PEPPA PIG on Monday the 9th. That's when she finishes her antibiotics. Fenced yard is required.
Applications can be completed on our website at: (on Monday!)

We will reply to all applications, so keep an eye on your Spam folder once u apply.

There are many ways to donate, and every dollar matters. We can't do what we do without Y-O-U.
It costs hundreds of dollars to save just one dog....a healthy dog. Medical cases are far more expensive.
This Giving Tuesday, donate where it matters!

It's Giving Tuesday!
While we aren't rescuing in the same capacity as before, Phoenix Rising Rescue is STILL saving dogs. Not only are we helping rescue dogs in need, but also covering medical care costs for several ongoing cases. We can only save another dog if we have the funds to do so.
Together we can change the world...one dog at a time!

Today's Glory Story is all about pouting and patience...lol.
As you know, I've been away for the Thanksgiving holiday. PEPPA PIG has been hanging with a friend, and she came home today. She was excited and exuberant in her loving and letting me know she missed me. But within a few minutes, she was already pouting.
Why?
Because she knows our routine whenever I return home is to cuddle up on the couch for some snuggle time. She was absolutely expecting the same upon her return. However, we had company. Her foster mom, Steph, and her dog, Thomas, were still socializing for a bit. Since I don't get much time to hang with my friends these days, I wasn't rushing them out the door to appease PEPPA PIG.
And yes. After they left, we did get our cuddle time. And I took the chance to explain to her about patience and not pouting when you don't get what you want exactly when YOU want it. About halfway through my "sermon" to PEPPA, I realized that I do the exact same thing.
Maybe I don't put on my pouty face and stare directly at the object of my impatience to get my way. But I have been known to become withdrawn, or snappy, or overly sensitive. Patience isn't always my strong suit.
As I explained to PEPPA PIG why we have to be mature and patient while waiting, I began to internalize my own words. I, too, need to absorb this lesson.
My goal this week is to exhibit grace in the waiting. I pray the Lord "lead me beside still waters" when I become impatient. And I hope all of you will seek the same.
I believe if we all stop feeding the world our negative emotions and reactions, we'll change it. If we instead feed it love, grace, patience, kindness, and joy, our whole atmosphere will change. Let's try it and see.
Happy Sunday, friends! I hope your week is fabulous!

PEPPA PIG is certainly enjoying her little Thanksgiving vacation.
For those of you who don't know, I am on a mini vacation for the holiday...just to get away. My precious friend, co-worker and vet tech extraordinaire, Stephanie, is keeping her well loved and cuddled while I'm away. She's desperately tried to get Steph's snobby dog to play. She's oblivious to chickens running around in the yard. She's perfected her "fetch" skills with Stephanie's husband, Sab. I'd say she's had her own vacation, for sure.
I've enjoyed my time away, but I can't wait to kiss that smushy faced piglet when I get home!

24/11/2024

Today's Glory Story is about how God always gives me what I NEED, even when it's not what I necessarily WANT. While rescue is what I was created to do, it's not always convenient, and it's exhausting.
Take my current situation. Most of you know my husband left me at the beginning of summer, I had to give up the rescue, put my house on the market, mourn the loss of TWO of my own fur babies, I got divorced, went back to work full time and then my mom passed away just a few weeks ago. It's been a poop-storm of depressing events. It's kept me physically and emotionally drained for months now. Rescuing hasn't been at the forefront of my mind.
Then along came PEPPA PIG. She is the sweetest and goofiest dog I've met in a loooonnng time. She's excited when I come home from work. She loves to cuddle and snuggle. Watching her heal and learn to thrive has been an absolute joy. And anytime I feel depressed or gloomy, all I have to do is look at her face. I mean, come on. Who could resist?
Every rescuer will tell you this same story, but it's not really us who rescues them. THEY rescue us more often than not. A true rescuer learns to speak to a dogs heart and allow them to touch their own. That bond changes us.
PEPPA PIG is perfect. She's helped heal my heart even as she struggled to find her own healing. Her love is unconditional. This is why rescue dogs are the best!
Everyone needs that kind of love in their life.
Happy Sunday, friends! I hope this week is filled with love, joy, and thanksgiving.
