Team Yriarte Horsemanship-Reno, NV horse trainers Reno, NV - developing trust, communication, and confidence through education and experience We believe in PARTNERSHIP before showmanship.
(7)

Dan and Kathy are a passionate Christian husband and wife team based near Reno, Nevada pursuing their dream helping people achieve a true partnership with their horse. Our foundation is built on the horsemanship style of Bryan Neubert, Ray Hunt, Tom Dorrance and others who truly believe in putting the horse first. This means we will not sacrifice the relationship with the horse to achieve a short

term goal, whether it be a show ribbon, a specific maneuver, or a timeline the human has set. We firmly believe the horse must be allowed the dignity of participating in the process of developing communication and trust. By allowing the horse to express themselves, the willingness comes naturally and horse and human become a team, working in unison toward a mutual goal. In order for this relationship to develop, we require that the primary owner (rider/handler) participate in the horse's education. We will tailor the program to suit both the goals and abilities of horse and human to ensure long term success. Thank you for your support and being a part of our journey!

Hershey is gaining confidence with every session! This sweet guy has so much heart and really tries to do what is asked of him. Bridges were a huge struggle in the beginning, but today he was able to calmly conquer the teeter totter!

The first drawback of anger is that it destroys your inner peace; the second is that it distorts your view of reality. If you think about this and come to understand that anger is really unhelpful, that it is only destructive, you can begin to distance yourself from anger.
Recognizing that anger and frustration are usually rooted in fear and/or shame can help diffuse the feelings and redirect your behavior before acting on them. Remember to "practice the pause" so that you can respond rather than react to your feelings and subsequently to your horse. Always put the relationship first.

Check out the newly formed Nevada Equine Council! We are thrilled to have a state level organization to represent equestrians in Nevada!

Learn more about the Nevada Equine Council in this month's issue of the HTA | Horse Trails of America Trail Journal which shines a spotlight on the great state of Nevada! There are also several great articles on different trails throughout the state and more so we encourage you to check it out.
NOTE: You do have to be a member of HTA to access the Trail Journal. The good news the first 6 months are completely free and no credit card is required to sign up! This is a great way to check out all of the incredible resources and learn more!
Here is a brief excerpt from the article about the Nevada Equine Council:
"While still in its infancy, the NVEC aims to connect horse lovers across the state. Any resident of Nevada is encouraged to become a member of the Nevada Equine Council. In addition, horse clubs, non-profit organizations, and equine-related businesses will be able to join and take advantage of membership benefits that support club growth and the health and vitality of our equestrian industry. The Nevada Equine Council exists to represent, strengthen, and unify the equine industry in Nevada through leadership, education, service, and communication. This can only be achieved if Nevada equine enthusiasts can band together across all breeds, disciplines, and geographic locations for the common good of the equestrian community as a whole.
We are actively seeking to fill positions for board members from around the state and create committees to forward the mission of the Nevada Equine Council. Want to learn more? Please email your interest to [email protected] and visit the website at www.nvequinecouncil.org to join the mailing list for updates and details as NVEC develop."

Never underestimate the importance of building rapport and ensuring comfort for a horse! Trust and communication are the foundation to a solid partnership and a willing horse. Something as simple as taking the time to scratch a few itchy spots on a sensitive horse like Storm goes a long way in building confidence and willingness.

This big beautiful gelding Storm has made some great progress in the last week or so. This guy is so sweet and willing, but sensitive and he gets flustered and overwhelmed easily so it has been a challenge to build his confidence.

Katrina Sanders Classical Equitation is coming back on OCTOBER 12th-14th!
Clinic Days are Saturday and Sunday. Private Lessons on Monday.
This clinic is filling up fast so get your spot reserved soon.
***new update to the website allows you to pay via check, cash, Venmo, or Zelle with ZERO fees!***
This is a unique, small group format 2-day clinic and each session is tailored to the group of participants in the arena and ensures focused, individualized attention for all riders. No more than 3 participants will be working with Katrina at a time.
Gone are the days of paying a lot of money for a full-day clinic with 12 riders or more and ending up spending most of it sitting on your horse in the arena watching while another person gets specific help or monopolizes the clinician's time. This format will allow you to get the most out of your clinic experience by knowing EXACTLY when you will be riding! Instead of baking in the sun standing in the arena when other participants are receiving instruction, you and your horse get to rest comfortably while you sit in the shade and take notes or ask questions without distraction. Or, for our friends traveling further or managing full schedules, you can schedule your clinic time to ensure you don't have to spend the entire day all weekend and can get home each day. There is so much more flexibility for participants to tailor their experience, allowing us to keep the cost more affordable using this progressive clinic style.
Limited boarding and unlimited dry camping available on site.

Tigger, this handsome 5 year old paint gelding, has grown so much in the last month! His increased confidence and willingness means he is progressing super fast now. He only had a handful of rides and had never been ridden outside of an arena or round pen prior to coming to us so the name of the game for Tigger is exposure! Ponying, riding, leading- cars, ATVs, dogs, and pigs.... Anything and everything out in the open! He's still a little concerned about the pigs 😂 but everyday he gets a little braver!( Rio having zero cares about the pigs also helps)

This unique, small group format 2-day clinic will focus on rider biomechanics and functional movement patterns of the horse. You will learn the importance of functional posture as applied to riding and how to achieve it. Each session is tailored to the group of participants in the arena and ensures focused, individualized attention for all riders. No more than 3 participants will be working with Katrina at a time.

***EDIT
We drove out to check it and weren't able to get close, 395 is stopped in both directions, but crews are on scene along with air support. It is on the west side of 395 which is a good thing for us 🙏🏻🙏🏻
Prayers that the crews can keep it contained and the winds die down 🙏🏻🙏🏻

We are watching this one closely as the winds are really picking up and smoke is rolling in 🙏🏻🙏🏻

Praying crews will have it out quickly!

We went and visited Rio and Macie down in Gardnerville and Dan gave Macie a much needed pedicure. The girls are living like queens with Maguire Price and her team! Rio is of course the barn favorite and we are excited to be bringing her home next week! The ranch hasn't been the same without Dan's best girl around!

About Team Y

Dan and Kathy Yriarte are a Christian husband and wife team pursuing their dream helping people achieve a true partnership with their horse. Dan’s passion is c**t and wild horse development, cow horse events and trail riding. Kathy enjoys liberty work, trails, and is looking forward to exploring working equitation and both Cowboy and traditional dressage. Our training is based primarily on the horsemanship style and teachings of Ray Hunt, Bill and Tom Dorrance, and Bryan Neubert. We believe in PARTNERSHIP before showmanship. This means we will not sacrifice the relationship with the horse to achieve a short term goal, whether it be a show ribbon, a specific maneuver, or a timeline the human has set. We firmly believe the horse must be allowed the dignity of participating in the process of developing communication and trust. By allowing the horse to express themselves, the willingness comes naturally and horse and human become a team, working in unison toward a mutual goal. To quote Charles de Kunffy: “Classical horsemanship is based on love for the horse; it is not practiced for the glorification of the rider.”

In order for this relationship to develop, we require that the primary owner (rider/handler) participate in the horse's education. We will tailor the program to suit both the goals and abilities of horse and human to ensure long term success. Thank you for your support and being a part of our journey!
