Support groups build champions:

Talent, skills, strong mental mindset, and confidence. You can have it all. You can be the whole package. But if youโ€™re lacking one important thing then your journey is going to be very difficult. You need a strong support group. You need to surround yourself with people that believe in you and your dreams. You need people there to pick you up when you fall and tell you to get up. I donโ€™t care if you are the most well-rounded athlete in the nation, if you are doing this journey alone it can be very challenging. Every great athlete has somebody in their life that has been there through every up and down in their career. Somebody to lean on when things get tough. Someone to remind you that if you take away your athletic ability that you are still loved. They love you regardless of how talented you are. They love and support you even on your worst days. Those are the kind of things that build champions. Surround yourself with people that love you regardless of how the rodeo goes. People that will bring peace and positivity to your life. Friends are great, but sometimes friends are around for the wrong reason. Find your people that have been with you through it all. Find your people that give you the tough love when you need it most. A strong support group will build champions. And champions will never be average to those that truly love and support them. Find your people and donโ€™t take this journey alone.

To the girl who pulls up with the cheapest tack in a beat-up bumper pull dragged behind a truck that's probably older than you;
I see you.
I know pulling in next to the big LQ trailers filled with custom tack is intimidating and makes you feel inferior. You are not. Just remember it's not what rig you pull up in, but what you back out of it that matters.

To the girl with the fancy tack in the big LQ trailer;
I see you.
I know how hard you work. You deserve that big rig and nice leatherwork. And you need it, because you have a big rodeo family. You need the room and high quality tack to fit you all and hold up to use. Just remember the opinions of the few do not affect your success.

To the girl who can't seem to pull a check;
I see you.
I know you bought dirt cheap horses and made them run twice as good as they should. You put in so much heart that you get more out of them. Just remember your efforts now will reward you later when that special horse finds you.

To the girl who runs tough that everyone assumes spent an exorbitant amount on her horsepower;
I see you.
I know you trained those horses. You spent time hunting for that "champagne taste on a beer budget" prospect. You put in the hours from the ground to the pay window to get where you are. Just remember to never doubt your abilities.

To the girl who rides big money horses and hears second hand whispers about how spoiled you are;
I see you.
I know you're humble and thankful--not lucky, blessed. You work hard to stay on top and you ride those horses and win. Not everyone can do that. Just remember even though you didn't train them, you aren't any less than those who did--your job is different, but not lesser.

The point is: we all have our own path. And none of them are wrong. We are individuals with completely different lives. As a whole, we are equestrians and should support each other no matter what. We all get on from the same side and pay the same fees. And we all strive for improvement.

It isn't where you start, it's where you finish.
Finish strong.

โœจResolutions for a Happier Horse Show Lifeโœจ

๐ŸŒŸ Thou Shalt Not Switch Training Programs After One Bad Go

- I know... you bought this magical unicorn that used to mark 80's like it was easy with its previous rider. You spent a lot of money. You're heading to your first show of the year and you are fixin' to mark a 82, dammit. You end up marking a 70. Your unicorn is now seemingly broken. Your trainer is looking out for you and doing their very best coaching you through runs with your limited skill set. One of the major keys to success is consistency, don't be a trainer hopper, stay the course unless you have a much more educated reason than "well I'm shoving my horse up the pen with my offside leg and for some reason my trainer is telling me to take my spurs off - they should be able to just FIX THAT, I paid a RIDICULOUS amount of money for these custom Kerry Kelley Bits & Spurs spurs and I LOVE them and will NOT take them off." We've all been there, if someone wants to send me a pair of Kerry Kelley's I probably wouldn't want to take them off either, heck I'd probably sleep in them, but maybe you should have invested in the clover-leafs, not the rock grinders.

(This one right here kids โ€ฆ hits different โคต๏ธ)

๐ŸŒŸ Practice Gratitude In & Out of the Show Pen

- Be grateful for your horse, for the opportunity to show, for your friends that stay up late and cheer you on, for your family that supports you going up and down the road, for your trainer that has turned you from novice, to successful competitor, for your significant other that "forgets" that time you threw a bridle at them. Gratitude. It's really cool. Invest in it.

๐ŸŒŸ Hang Your Bridles Right

- I mean it, if you haven't learned how to do this yet, you need to lock yourself away in a tack room somewhere and don't come out until you know how.

๐ŸŒŸ Set S.M.A.R.T. Goals for the Show Season

- S: Specific
- M: Measurable
- A: Achievable
- R: Relevant
- T: Time-Bound

- It's proven that when you make sure your goals are S.M.A.R.T. and chunk them down by weeks, months or quarters so that they are more achievable than say "Only ever mark a 75 and win the World but never leave my home state/province"... you will get a whole lot farther, faster.

๐ŸŒŸ Don't Play The Comparison Game

- The minute you start to think to yourself something to the effect of: "well so-and-so only does well because her dad bought her that horse" or "well of course so-and-so is successful, she grew up in this sport" or "so-and-so works for a trainer, so of course she does well" or "well, if I was retired like so-and-so I would be able to do this easily too".... I have a really great trick for you. It's going to rock your world. Are you ready? I want you to find the nearest wall and bang your head against it five times. Why? Because that is the useless, hurtful and definitely odd motion that is equivalent to wasting your time comparing yourself to others. My words of advice... 1. Be happy for people in their winning season, you don't know what they've lost in their losing season. 2. If you are constantly getting beaten, sit down, re-evaluate and strategize how you can be the best competitor you can be with what you have in the moment. Whether that's ride more, go to the gym, watch more shows, take more lessons, whatever it is, start to strategize how you can be the best version of yourself. No comparison required.

๐ŸŒŸ Believe In Your Unicorn

- in other words, just have fun! Actually have a blast. Support the sport. Make new friends. Scare yourself by showing in new arenas. Get on your association board. Cry your eyes out when you mark your first 80, 83 or 85. Celebrate your successes like you just won the friggen' world show. Show everyone your new buckle. Wear your spurs to the grocery store. Take a clinic. Go to the Futurity. Go to the World Show and holler your guts out with your friends after a few cocktails (wait, who would do that? ...heathens) Either way, or anyway, or whatever way... the golden question is... Why essentially throw all this money into the air and stomp all over it, not to have the most friggen' fun you can have possible?

Believe in your horse, believe in the program, and enjoy! ๐Ÿ’ซ
