Rabbits shed multiple times a year, three heavy shedding and many light shedding throuought the year. They insist on being clean and tidy and will lick themselves like cats! But unlike cats, bunnies cannot vomit! This is why your bunny MUST be brushed very good. Otherwise, the ingested fur will accumulate in their Gi track. Since rabbits cannot vomit, the hair can only be passed in the stool. If i
t is not passed in the stool, a blockage can occur. This is a medical emergency for a rabbit. At this point, the bunny will stop eating and will be in great pain due to the accumulation of toxic gas created by the blockage, leading to GI stasis and/or bloat due to gas accumulation in the gut. The gut starts to slow down, and eventually shut off completely..that is when most of rabbits owners notice it, because the bunny stops eating. This is already a late stage and If not addressed immediately, the bunny will die. Sadly, this is very common. I have learned it the hard way myself. This is why, I have created The Bunny Beauty Parlor to help rabbit owners to keep their bunnies healthy:) Grooming your bunny is also a great way to connect with him/her and bond. Also, it is a good opportunity to check his overall health and and look for any skin problems, lumps or any sign of medical condition. We recommend grooming your bunny every 6 to 8 weeks. I am sharing my love for these amazing sensitive creatures and will go beyond brushing. Any questions you may have about set-up, feeding your bunny, care...I will gladly answer your questions and help you achieve the perfect connection with your furry friend. Do not hesitate to contact me. I can drive to you (fees may apply), or you can come to my house and meet my own bunnies and adoptable fosters:)
