The caller was at a loss, having reached out to multiple places, unsure of where to turn. We couldn’t let this poor soul suffer any longer.Upon arriving, the stench was unbearable. This poor dog was in such pain and distress that he was literally chewing on his own leg. This isn’t just neglect—this is ABUSE.This is why our adoption fees and protocols are in place. If you can’t afford the adoption fee for a puppy, how will you afford vaccines? Monthly flea and tick medicine? What about when the dog shows signs of illness, like cancer? 🚨 URGENT RESCUE STORY: HEARTBREAKING CASE OF SEVERE INJURY 🚨Today, we took in a stray who has suffered unimaginable pain. This poor dog was found with part of his back leg missing—ligaments and bone fully exposed and badly infected. It’s a sight that no animal should ever endure, and we suspect that a cruel snare caused this horrifying injury.He is currently in critical condition, and we’ve taken him to animal control for immediate medical care. Their veterinary team will assess the injury to begin the treatment he desperately needs. Once he’s stabilized, we will take him back into our care to help him through his long journey of recovery.This is the reality of what animals face here—suffering in silence, caught in inhumane traps, without any help until it’s nearly too late. Though we are deeply saddened by his passing, we are so grateful to his amazing foster family, who made sure every single day of Buddy's remaining time was filled with love and happiness. 🌟🙏 Rest peacefully, sweet Buddy. Every day we pray we find amazing homes for the dogs in our care. We have a staggering 110 dogs as of today actively looking for homes. Not all are shown online as they are too young, being medically treated, or being assessed for behavior. Many are in foster homes and some are at the facility. Having this many dogs means we have to provide..🏥 medical care - monthly meds for heartworm and flea/tick. Wormer. Antibiotics and a host of other ailments that require medicine and veterinary visits. This requires attention to detail and coordination between workers to ensure medication is dispensed properly. 🦴 Dog Food for all puppies in foster care. Food for all the dogs at the facility. Special food for dogs with allergies or medical conditions. Puppy milk. 🐾 Daily exercise and affection to all the dogs in our care. They get rotated out to yards in play groups many times throughout the day and they get to play in the pools, or with the many toys they have. Volunteers also take them out for walks. The amount of coordination of dogs with foster families, dogs going out for medical care, spay and neuter appointments and navigating events every weekend is mind blowing. But NONE OF US would change it for the world. We love what we do. Our crew of 6 full time and 3 part time workers handles all of the above with the help of fosters and volunteers. With the help of our community we help thousands of dogs find loving homes and we do it with a very small budget. Thank you for always having our backs. We had an amazing time at Kamehameha Schools recently, spreading the love for our furry friends and teaching the keiki all about responsible pet ownership! 🐶💕 It was such a joy to see the excitement and curiosity in the kids as we talked about how to keep their dogs happy and healthy.
