I just learned that Karen Pryor passed away today, at 92 years old. It was not unexpected, but still leaves me somber, and sad. She was a true giant in my field (and others), and a pioneer in the best sense of that word, and she was a warm and well-loved human who will be greatly missed by many. It is almost impossible to overstate the imapact she had in the animal training world, and the legacy she leaves.

I only met her in person once, many years ago (she had already retired), but she changed my life. I read her book "Don't Shoot the Dog!" sometime around 1999 or 2000, and it was a revelation. I wasn't yet a professional dog trainer, and didn't even know for another couple of years that's what I wanted to do, but that book was the first step on that fork in the road that led me here.

I admired her curious and quick mind, her fearlessness, and her compassion.

I know many people who will be grieving her, and also celebrating her life. She was a bright light, and led a full and meaningful life, sharing that light with others.
