I have been an animal lover and advocate for dogs for as long as I can remember. I am active in Shelter reform. I support several rescue groups and I particularly love the organization called C.H.A.I.N.E.D. out of the Detroit area. A few years years ago I went into a local animal control and found a very shaken Standard Poodle. He was totally shut down and frozen with fear. The more you spoke to h

im the more he quivered and cowered in the back of his cage. I inquired about him at the front desk and was informed he was an owner surrender that came in the day before. I was told his name was Bentley, he was 3 1/2 years old, not neutered and that he had been an outside dog. This was all the info they had. With two dogs at home, I was not looking for another, but he pulled at my heartstrings and I asked animal control to call me if no one adopted him by the weekend. I really had no experience with the Standard Poodle breed, but there was something about him… maybe it was those big brown eyes? Whatever it was, the spell was cast. The call came a few days later and off I went to fetch him. I planned to find him a good home. Once he settled in, I had him neutered so he would not fall into the hands of a breeder. I quickly fell in love with this big brute and he became part of my family. A few years later my old Maltese went to the rainbow bridge. I was combing the pet ads on Craigslist. I clicked on Free Stuff on a whim and could not believe my eyes – but there was a Standard Poodle. I won’t even get in to the dangers of posting any animal for free on Craigslist. Of course, I emailed immediately and a lady called me the next morning and off I went. More than anything I did not want this dog to fall in the wrong hands/ home. Again I was blessed- this time with a sweet little girl named Molly. She was 2 and had never had any vet care, lived on a farm and was tied to a barn. Yep, I kept her as well. She and Bentley are inseparable. I served on the board of the Humane Society of Bay County in 2012. I have been involved with many rescues and have fostered several dogs in my life. I believe in doing a home check and getting both vet and personal references before placing a dog in a permanent home. I have many contacts with other rescues in the state. I am so very attracted to the Standard Poodle breed and the sweet sensitive nature of them. I do not want to see them fall in the wrong hands. This is why I started a Standard Poodle Rescue in MI. Poor, sweet CRYSTAL! Gentle Crystal's mama is ailing and can't take care of her, anymore. Crystal is a 9 1/2-year-old, all-black Standard Poodle. She weighs 45 pounds, is spayed, and house-trained. Even as a senior, Crystal is energetic and playful. She loves her stuffed animals and will take them - wagging all the way- to her humans. Crystal's best life will be with active, retired people who are home much of the time, since during her lifetime her humans have been at home. She would just love a big, backyard in which to cut loose. (Crystal was not raised with children but will be just fine with grandchildren and other visiting children. ) She has been well-cared-for and well-loved her entire life and now she needs loving, committed people who will make these next few years her golden years. MCBRYDE is a ten-month-old Standard Poodle/Husky mix. He weighs 80 pounds. McBryde is current on vaccines and will need to be neutered. This pup is a friendly, loveable goof who likes people and other dogs. With dogs, he is playful and submissive, and with people he is exuberant and affectionate. McBryde is in foster with a good Samaritan who saved him from some pretty poor conditions. He likes everything and knows nothing! Sweet McBryde is looking for a loving forever home that has plenty of room to accommodate his size and activity level and has the time to train him up into his full potential. Precious ANNIE had a grooming appointment, but her mama died! Annie is a 5-year-old Standard Poodle. She weighs about 50 pounds, is spayed, house-trained and crate-trained. She is very sweet and cuddly, loves the human bed 😇, and can be quite shy around new people (she has lived a quiet life with elderly people, so she has not had a lot of experiences or met a lot of people). Annie is playful and exuberant when her people return home. She has always been an only dog, and sometimes guards her food if other dogs are present. JOJO had a birthday, yesterday! She is six years old and weighs about 60 pounds. She is current on vaccines, house trained, and spayed. JoJo is a sweet girl with boundless energy. She loves adults and kids, alike. JoJo has been in a foster home for a few weeks, where she has fine-tuned her leash and house manners, and now it is time for her to go to her forever home. JoJo will do best as an only dog or as a companion to a bold dog about her same size (she loves to play with dogs, but can overwhelm them), and she'll do best in a home without small animals. Our very favorite home for JoJo will have a fenced yard, an active (retired?) couple with time to give her the attention and exercise she needs, with maybe grandkids and/or a large grand-dog who visits frequently. ADOPTED Loki is the Norse god of mischief, and this little guy is a tribute to his namesake. LOKI is a "moyan" poodle - quite small for a Standard. He is neutered, current on vaccines, and weighs about 25 pounds. He is nearly 14 months old. Loki loves people, both adults and children, and he gets along with cats and dogs, alike. Loki is crate-trained and house-trained, and knows simple commands. He is playful, friendly, clingy, and cuddly. Loki has oodles of personality and energy to burn. His forever home should have a fenced yard, and active, energetic people with a lot of time to train him and play with him. He does get quite anxious when left at home alone, so he needs a home where people are home much of the

ADOPTED Tiny TK, sometimes known as Mr. T, is a King Charles Cavalier Spaniel/Poodle mix. He is 8 months old and weighs 10 pounds. Little Mr. T is neutered, current on vaccines, and micro-chipped. He loves toys, balls, cuddles, and playing with the resident dog. This little guy was originally purchased from an "upscale" pet store. He had a host of (minor) health issues, and was filthy and matted. His owner purchased him just to save him and surrendered him to MSPR, where he has been in a loving, foster home for a couple of months, healing physically and emotionally. He is now fully recovered, healthy and robust, and ready to go! Mr. T wants a loving family and a playful resident dog of comparable size. This guy's foster can't say enough about what a wonderful little dog, he is. PENDING ADOPTION Rockin' ROCKET is a 3 1/2-year-old, brown Standard Poodle. He is neutered and weighs 45 pounds. Rocket is energetic, playful, friendly and affectionate. PENDING ADOPTION Sweet NORA is a 3-year-old Bernese Mountain Dog/Standard Poodle mix. Nora is spayed, house-trained, crate-trained and knows basic commands. She weighs 50 pounds. Nora is active, playful, shy, a little clingy, and eager to please. When Nora meets new people (including children) or animals, she is quite reserved at first, but warms up quickly and the playtime is on! She loves balls, playing tag, and cuddling. She does not shed. Nora was experiencing separation anxiety in the form of whining and barking. but is taking medication now and seems to be fine when left alone. Many of our dogs are completely rehabilitated from the separation anxiety when they have a companion dog, so for this reason, we would like to rehome Nora with the companionship and support of a resident dog, in the hope that she can get off the medication. Her anxiety was also exacerbated by being left long hours in the apartment while her owner works, so she needs people who are around a lot, and she needs ROOM TO RUN. Nora is not used to children. She wants a quiet home with active people who have lots of time for her, a fenced yard, and a companion dog. ADOPTED Frankie is a 60 pound, 15-month-old Bernese Mountain Dog/Standard Poodle mix. She is house-trained, crate-trained, leash-trained, and knows several commands. Frankie is playful, active and friendly, but sometimes Frankie doesn't know how to stay in her lane! 😝 She is good around other dogs, but just doesn't understand limits and tends to overwhelm them. Frankie loves car rides, chew toys, long walks, snuggles, and treats. She is good with kids. Cats are an unknown. She sheds very little, if at all, and will need to be spayed. ADOPTED Harvey is a four-year-old Standard Poodle in search of a new home with folks who have LOTS of time for him. Harvey is neutered, current on vaccines, and weighs in at 73 pounds. He is house-trained and crate-trained, but will need leash training (living in the country, he has just never needed to be on a leash). Harvey likes dogs, NOT cats, sleeping in bed with his peeps, and lounging on the couch. He is well-behaved when all have left the home and is never destructive. He is loving and affectionate and wants only to be near his people. Harvey is trained to an inground fence, but in a country setting, he may not need one. Harvey needs an experienced owner, because he can be very protective of his peeps when strangers come around. This is predictable and easily managed. She knows commands like sit, come, and stay. Tippy is a friendly girl who loves to play fetch and romp with the resident dog in her foster home. She loves walks, though she can become reactive when passing other dogs on the path. Except for a bit of counter-surfing, Tippy is mannerly when the humans have left the home. PENDING ADOPTION Lincoln is a 7-year-old, golden retriever/standard poodle mix. He is neutered, current on vaccines, and weighs 70 pounds. Lincoln is a good-natured, friendly, playful companion who loves to romp and cuddle. LINCOLN LOVES ADULATION from his humans, and he has never met a dog he doesn't like. He gets along with cats and kids, alike, and has never shown any aggression towards anyone or anything. He is crate-trained and leash-trained, and he loves his bed and chew toys. Lincoln is looking for an active home with a playful resident dog and a fenced yard (an in-ground fence is fine). He needs an easygoing family who can afford his seizure medication (about $80 per month in his location) and accommodate his very occasional "breakthrough" seizures. (The seizures are very well-controlled with the medication.) PENDING ADOPTION Hazel is a three-year-old standard poodle. She is spayed and current on vaccines, and she weighs 50 pounds. She is crate-trained, solidly house-trained, and knows some basic commands. Sweet Hazel is playful and friendly and wiley. 🤣 (She will run if given the opportunity.). She needs a (physical) fenced yard and a playful resident dog. We suspect that Hazel has been bounced around a bit, so she needs a lot of love and EXERCISE and some fine-tuning on the leash. NO CATS. Hazel was sold by an unscrupulous breeder to a lovely couple who live in an apartment. They were misled, and understand that Hazel cannot live her best life in an apartment. WITHDRAWN. Titan is a golden retriever/standard poodle mix. He is four years old, neutered, and current on vaccines. He weighs 70 pounds. Titan likes kids, people, dogs, cats, and just about anybody else you can think of. He is leash-trained and house-trained, and knows basic commands. Titan is smart, playful, loving, and friendly. Three or four times each year, Titan has a seizure.He has never been medicated for the seizures, and that is certainly a promising option. This guy is being rehomed, because his busy, growing, family is unable to give him the time and attention he deserves. Titan will make a great family dog for active people. They seem pretty committed to one another, so it would be great if we could rehome them together; if not, each will require a resident dog. Evie and Sally are former breeding dogs, retired from a puppy mill. They weigh about 50 pounds, each and will need to be spayed. They require a fenced yard. Their mutual goal is to sleep in their human's bed and snuggle, snuggle, snuggle. They are housetrained, good with other dogs, quiet, and well-behaved. They would make a great "ready-made" family! PENDING ADOPTION Penny is a 3 1/2-year-old, a brown and white parti-colored standard poodle. Penny is spayed and current on vaccines. She weighs 60 pounds. Penny pretty much likes everyone, including strangers, kids (though she doesn't have much experience with them), and dogs. She has never been around a cat. Penny is house-trained, crate-trained, leash-trained, and trained to a doggy door. She knows basic obedience and loves car rides and balls. Penny will guard her food from other dogs, but is otherwise peaceful. She loves her people and is loving, gentle, and respectful. She needs a fenced yard and active people who are around a lot. Penny is being rehomed because entertaining herself includes tormenting the little dogs in the home. She is located in St. Ignace, MI. PENDING ADOPTION Happy HONEY is a (barely) one-year-old golden retriever/standard poodle mix. She is newly spayed, current on vaccines, and weighs 31 pounds. Honey is a friendly girl who likes people old and new, and loves, loves, loves to play with her doggy friends. Honey is house-trained and crate trained. She alerts to go outside by ringing bells on the door and loves to ride in the car. She has had some professional training and responds to several commands. Honey is active, playful, and obedient, and has been known to beg for your food on occasion. She can be headstrong and RUN when unrestrained, so she REQUIRES a physical fence. (Honey is being rehomed, because her loving owner has realized that apartment living is not the best life for her. SHE NEEDS EXERCISE AND A PLAYFUL RESIDENT DOG. Older kids are OK.
