These holiday parties are more than just fun—they’re an important form of enrichment, keeping our resident chimpanzees mentally and physically engaged. Watching them explore, play, and enjoy the festivities is a joy we love to share.

Pamela Anderson, who visited Save the Chimps shortly after we opened, recently shared her new cookbook, I Love You, with us—including a recipe for CBD Berry Balls she thought our resident chimpanzees would love. Sanctuary chef Joshua Henderson gave it a try, and as you can see, it was a hit! 🎉

“Look at these ladies sharing CBD Berry Balls from my cookbook!” says Anderson. “I’m thrilled that chimps love this treat as much as my dog Zuzu.”

Made with blueberries, almond flour, flaxseed, and coconut, the chimps enjoyed this festive, plant-based treat—a perfect match for their healthy diet! 🌿

Limbani is settling in beautifully at his new home! He has a boundless personality and loves interacting with the care staff.

💚Full of energy, Limbani can often be seen climbing to the top of the “catwalk” and spinning on his hanging toys. One of his favorite games is chase, which we play a lot! Our care team is definitely getting some extra cardio in to keep up with him. 🏃😅

💛He also loves playing with our tickle sticks, handing them to staff members and laughing as they tickle and play with him. Sometimes, he uses it for tug-of-war, a game he's sure to win! 💪

💙His appetite is excellent! Some of his favorite meals are blueberries 🫐, lychee, avocado 🥑, pomegranates, and mini-peppers 🫑. Chef Josh's special oatmeal is an all-time favorite! 😋

🧡He has a full schedule of daily enrichment activities, which he is increasingly curious about. This week he was excited about the challenge of extracting raisins from a raisin board. He also reveled in a box of shredded paper with treats hidden inside, throwing it into the air. He had paper all over himself by the time he was through! 🎉

💚We are so thrilled to be able to welcome this young chimp to our sanctuary family and grateful to all of the people who care about Limbani and our special residents. Stay tuned for more updates as Limbani continues to thrive in his new home!

We're Save the Chimps, one of the largest chimpanzee sanctuaries in the world! 🌍🐵 We’re so excited to have you join us on this journey of compassion and care for these incredible chimpanzees.

💚 We provide lifelong care for over 220 chimpanzees, offering them freedom, companionship, and expert care at our 150-acre Florida sanctuary.
🌳 Our residents live on spacious 3-to-5 acre islands with trees, hills, and climbing structures, where they can roam, play, and thrive in family groups.
🐵 Founded in 1997 by Dr. Carole Noon, Save the Chimps began as a refuge for chimps from the U.S. Air Force’s space program. Today, we continue to provide a safe and peaceful retirement for chimps rescued from research, entertainment, and the pet trade.

The Bryan Adams Collection features 36 paintings, each a collaboration between rock icon Adams, who painted the base coats, and ape artists from Save the Chimps, who added the brushstrokes 🎨. Each abstract, acrylic painting is named for one of the Grammy winner’s song titles or lyrics, and Adams carved his initials into the corner of each piece.

💚 We are happy to announce the arrival of Limbani, the newest and youngest member of our Save the Chimps family! 💚

💛 At just 8 years old, Limbani has spent his life in private ownership and is now taking the first steps toward a future of companionship with other chimpanzees. Limbani’s owner, guided by a heartfelt desire to give him the life he deserves, made the difficult but compassionate decision to entrust him to us. Save the Chimps’ dedicated veterinarians and care staff traveled to Miami to ensure a safe and comfortable journey for Limbani to his new home.

❤️ Limbani will spend time in our Special Needs Play Yards as our veterinary and behavioral teams assess his health and prepare him for life among other chimpanzees. This transition will help him acclimate to the sanctuary and ensure that when he joins one of our chimp families on their island habitats, it will be the perfect fit.

💙 Limbani has already captured our hearts. Upon arrival, he entered his new home with boundless energy—playing chase, spinning on hanging toys, climbing bamboo, and fully exploring his play yard. He was offered a variety of nutritious foods and especially enjoyed colorful mini-peppers and a delicious cup of oatmeal.

💜 We are honored to welcome Limbani to our sanctuary family. With your support, we can provide him and other chimpanzees with spacious habitats, fresh and nutritious food, loving companionship, and personalized care.

🌞 Meet Olida, or as we lovingly call her, Mama O. Born in the wild, Olida has faced many challenges, but today, she’s the heart of Rufus's family, spending her days sunbathing with her besties. Although her daughters, Marissa, Megan, and Maya are all grown up now, she’s always looking out for them.

Olida may seem reserved initially, but once you get to know her, she has a very sweet side and an adorable sense of humor. She is a special lady, and Rufus’s family is truly enriched by her love and presence. 💕

⚡ Breaking News ⚡ The 23 chimpanzees awaiting release in the New Mexico lab where most of Save the Chimps residents came from are finally being freed to Chimp Haven! This follows years of legal battles by many groups, and an appeal last month by Save the Chimps Ambassador Bill Maher to President Joe Biden. Maher wrote: “I respectfully ask that you grant pardons to 23 unfairly incarcerated individuals: chimpanzee survivors of government experiments, whose release to sanctuaries was enshrined into law when President Bill Clinton signed the Chimp Act in 2000.” Congratulations to Chimp Haven, Animal Protection New Mexico, and The Humane Society of the United States for their tireless work to free these chimpanzees!
