We are Fear Free Certified & passionate about the intersectional wellbeing of pets & their people. I began this fun, furry journey in 2012 when I started pet sitting for friends while living on Maui. Since returning to Louisville in 2014, I officially started my own pet sitting, dog walking, and medical care services for my furry friends in the Bluegrass. We are small, independent, local business

who feel like our clients are our family! We are professional pet sitters and, while we have a LOT of fun doing our job, we take it very seriously. We are licensed by the state of Kentucky, bonded and insured by the Business Insurers of the Carolinas, Human-Animal Bond Certified by the Human Animal Bond Research Institute and the North American Veterinary Community, Fear Free Certified, Pet CPR & First Aid Certified, and we are a Pet Sitters International member. We fall in love with every pet whom we meet and we're excited to meet yours.

We are moving forward, but not moving on, from our August book to our September book. In September, we will be reading “Who’s A Good Dog?” By Jessica Pierce which dives into our concepts about what qualifiers we use to determine what does and does not a good dog make and the role that dog guardians have in those determinations.

🚨 A friendly reminder 🚨

Hot cars and dogs don't mix. Unfortunately, we respond to lots of these calls for service in the summer and fall months. When officers respond, they follow the "ABCD" method.

A - is the animal Able to rise without help?
B – is the animal Breathing normally, labored, or shallow?
C – is the animal Conscious? Alert?
D – is the animal Drooling excessively? Panting?

If an officer believes the pup is in danger, we can enter your vehicle, rescue the dog, and arrest you for Cruelty to Animals 2nd degree (KRS 525.130)

Togo and Dakota are absolute heart-stealers, but the kinds who give most of them back; they only keep a little bit, but that’s nonnegotiable. They keep a little bit of your heart forever.

Rebecca here! Some of you may know that I was a tech at Chenoweth Animal Hospital when Ohana was still in its infant stages. You may not know that my pets have been going there (and still go there!) since I was the ripe age of three years old. I love Chenoweth. If you want to work with my favorite vet techs and my favorite vets, you’re in luck! They’re hiring! If you apply, say hello to Julie, Becca, Maddie, Banks, and Ann! You’ll love them!

Would you or anyone you know be interested in joining our team? We would love to hear from you! Experience is preferred but we are happy to train the right candidate:) Please spread the word!

As we are gradually moving closer to September, we want everyone who is interested in joining our book club to have enough time to obtain and read our pick for September which is Who’s A Good Dog? by Jessica Pierce. We will be meeting for our rescheduled August book discussion in mid-September and our September discussion will be towards the end of the month. How many times will I say September in this post? Anyway, I chose the pick for next month because it’s the perfect book to follow Bad Dog.

“Come!” “Sit.” “Speak.” “Down.” “Shake.” “Heel!” “Roll over!” These words are well-known among dog owners. We teach them to our faithful companions so they will learn to understand rudimentary commands and do our bidding. It’s a task dogs are evolutionarily primed for. ...

Play is so important for puppers. Not only does play behavior show you that your dog is happy, but it shows you that your dog feels comfortable expressing their play behavior in your presence! A playful dog is a happy dog! We love that these girls love our PWAs enough to play with each other in their presence!

We began our book club this month! We had to reschedule our first discussion because of a scheduling conflict, so both our August book and September book discussions will be in September. We will announce our September pick next week!

We’re excited about Bark! Fest next month! If you love pets, learning, and reading, consider joining the virtual book festival sessions! Zazie Todd curated an incredible list of books that will be included in the festival which we are also perusing to choose for our book club! Which of the books on this list would you like to read?

Because we want everyone to be fully informed about their choices for our presidential candidates, we are rescheduling our book club discussion for September! The RNC was last month and the DNC is from today (Monday 8/19) through Thursday (8/22). Our book club can be a much needed distraction from the heavy political climate in our country, but we do not want to contribute to citizens not having the time to be informed. We will be rescheduling our book club discussion for a time in September that will not conflict with major events! This will also give those of you who had not had time to read the book to have a little more time!

Original post:
Our first book club discussion is tomorrow! We’ll be meeting at NuLu Marketplace at 7:30 PM. Look for me (Rebecca) in an Ohana sweatshirt (weather permitting) or some kind of pet-related tank top. I’ll also have the book on the table. This book is challenging, so, if you did not read it or did not finish reading it, still join us for a thoughtful discussion! You can also view The Champions documentary about the Vicktory dogs and we can talk about it!

This book club is intended to extend our love of animals to our fellow animal lovers and grow as a community of animal-loving humans. Ohana doesn’t just love animals, we love the people who love animals! We also love education, development, and growth.

This first book club pick was a heady one, so we’ll be sure to mix things up and rotate between academic texts, memoirs, novels, and short stories. If you can’t make it to the discussion and have read this month’s book, comment below with your take-aways!

Our in-person book club discussion for Bad Dogs by Harlan Weaver will be at NuLu Marketplace at 7:30 PM on Monday, August 19th! This book is very academic and worth the read, but, if you don’t have the time to read it between now and the discussion, please watch The Champions! The Champions is a documentary about the Vicktory dogs who were seized from Michael Vick. You can rent or purchase the documentary on Amazon here: https://www.amazon.com/Champions-Paul-Fiaccone/dp/B01C9CAV4G?dplnkId=137fc52b-9fad-4a3c-9a6e-bbcc8756af92&nodl=1
And please consider donating to Best Friends who took care of several Vicktory dogs!
