We are Fear Free Certified & passionate about the intersectional wellbeing of pets & their people. I began this fun, furry journey in 2012 when I started pet sitting for friends while living on Maui. Since returning to Louisville in 2014, I officially started my own pet sitting, dog walking, and medical care services for my furry friends in the Bluegrass. We are small, independent, local business
who feel like our clients are our family! We are professional pet sitters and, while we have a LOT of fun doing our job, we take it very seriously. We are licensed by the state of Kentucky, bonded and insured by the Business Insurers of the Carolinas, Human-Animal Bond Certified by the Human Animal Bond Research Institute and the North American Veterinary Community, Fear Free Certified, Pet CPR & First Aid Certified, and we are a Pet Sitters International member. We fall in love with every pet whom we meet and we're excited to meet yours.
We are moving forward, but not moving on, from our August book to our September book. In September, we will be reading “Who’s A Good Dog?” By Jessica Pierce which dives into our concepts about what qualifiers we use to determine what does and does not a good dog make and the role that dog guardians have in those determinations.

Hot cars and dogs don't mix. Unfortunately, we respond to lots of these calls for service in the summer and fall months. When officers respond, they follow the "ABCD" method.
A - is the animal Able to rise without help?
B – is the animal Breathing normally, labored, or shallow?
C – is the animal Conscious? Alert?
D – is the animal Drooling excessively? Panting?
If an officer believes the pup is in danger, we can enter your vehicle, rescue the dog, and arrest you for Cruelty to Animals 2nd degree (KRS 525.130)

Rebecca here! Some of you may know that I was a tech at Chenoweth Animal Hospital when Ohana was still in its infant stages. You may not know that my pets have been going there (and still go there!) since I was the ripe age of three years old. I love Chenoweth. Play is so important for puppers. Not only does play behavior show you that your dog is happy, but it shows you that your dog feels comfortable expressing their play behavior in your presence! A playful dog is a happy dog! We love that these girls love our PWAs enough to play with each other in their presence!
We began our book club this month! We had to reschedule our first discussion because of a scheduling conflict, so both our August book and September book discussions will be in September. We will announce our September pick next week!

Because we want everyone to be fully informed about their choices for our presidential candidates, we are rescheduling our book club discussion for September! The RNC was last month and the DNC is from today (Monday 8/19) through Thursday (8/22). Our book club can be a much needed distraction from the heavy political climate in our country, but we do not want to contribute to citizens not having the time to be informed. We will be rescheduling our book club discussion for a time in September that will not conflict with major events! This will also give those of you who had not had time to read the book to have a little more time!

Our first book club discussion is tomorrow! We’ll be meeting at NuLu Marketplace at 7:30 PM. Look for me (Rebecca) in an Ohana sweatshirt (weather permitting) or some kind of pet-related tank top. I’ll also have the book on the table. This book is challenging, so, if you did not read it or did not finish reading it, still join us for a thoughtful discussion! You can also view The Champions documentary about the Vicktory dogs and we can talk about it!
This book club is intended to extend our love of animals to our fellow animal lovers and grow as a community of animal-loving humans. Ohana doesn’t just love animals, we love the people who love animals! We also love education, development, and growth.

This lovely gentlelady is Agnes. She is super soft and loves to catch tennis balls. She and her sister Opal have some pretty excellent scarves; hers is cherries and her sister’s is lemons. Very cute. Very demure.

Hosted by IAVSW and UT Veterinary Social Work, this summit will provide a wealth of invaluable knowledge for Veterinary Social Workers! Our owner, Rebecca, is currently pursuing her Masters Degree in Social Work with the goal of becoming Certified in Veterinary Social Work! Let's be honest: when you go on vacation, your pet gets a staycation. It's a downright slumberpawty. Remember grade school slumber parties? Yeah, those. That's what it's like for your pets and us. PJs, snacks, scary movies. Instead of pillow fights, we have pillow piles! We seriously have the best time.
We have some amazing PWAs. What is a PWA? A Pet Wellness Advocate! Our PWAs are essentially your pets' BFFs. If your pup has been itching for a buddy to go on walks with, sign them up! Our PWAs can't wait to meet them!
Every week, our Ohana Pet Care team meets virtually to discuss work and life. We are so fortunate to be each other's support systems. We want to extend our support to other pet industry workers and pet parents. We will have weekly virtual meetings for both fellow pet industry workers and pet parents to join us to talk about life, work, and pets! We have been waiting a long time for this. Veterinary Social Work has ALWAYS been the goal. Pet guardianship and companionship is wonderful, but it cal also be emotionally demanding, leaving us feeling exhausted, resentful, and remorseful. You are not alone in this. Pet loss can be the most painful experience that anyone can go through. You are NOT alone. We have started a wait list for anyone and everyone in Kentucky who currently needs or will at some point in the future need someone to talk to. We will offer both group and one-on-one sessions led by a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. You will have the support of a large community of fellow pet parents and caregivers.
