Dressage for Everybody with Lidia Taylor Traditional and Western Dressage, licensed Working Equitation Judge and TD
(8)

Over the years I worked with many students that believed that they could not learn dressage because they were somehow wrong for it - wrong age, wrong built, wrong physical ability etc., or because their horses were wrong for it - see the list of reasons above. As an instructor, I am privileged to be able to show my students that dressage works for every horse and every rider. As a matter of fact,

those with the most difficulties often benefit the most as dressage approached correctly has a very therapeutic effect.

I encourage Midwest USA Working Equitation members to designate their $5 contribution for KarMik Acres. Karen and Mike have been working tirelessly on promoting the sport of Working Equitation in the Midwest for many years. Each year they host horseless and traditional clinics, schooling and licensed shows, and bring in clinicians that help advance skills necessary in our sport.
As for the elections, I, too, support Seth Marshall. The organization is in desperate need of new blood, candidates thinking out of the box and not swayed by old politics.

KarMik Acres, Inc. appreciates your $5 designation as an Affiliate member of USAWE. The money is used on up keep for our obstacles, and insurance. It helps support our show series each year. You don't have to be in Illinois to choose us. It is appreciated.

For at Large Director our choice is Seth Marshall. He has shown his commitment to Working Equitation in the US by showing, traveling to Europe to learn, his pod casts and more. He is motivated and is a free thinker. He doesn't get caught up in the group think. Not afraid to stand up for what he believes in. Thanks for taking this on Seth.

What an awesome product from Troxel Helmets! Great way to add shade instantly to a helmet. I wonder if this would work as a Hel-Hat conversion for Western Dressage Association of America WDAA? Does anyone know if these are show legal for them? Doesn't work with all helmets, but sounds like it works with their western style helmet line.

Deal Alert!📣
Instantly add full shade and sun protection to most Troxel helmet models with a helmet brimmer. Plus, save 20% for a limited time!

We had a picture perfect clinic weekend in Des Moines, Iowa at the Red Tail Ranch, LLC - bright skies, beautiful fall colors, warm temps, and a bunch of horses and riders who came excited to learn. It is always so rewarding to see a horse/rider pair finish a lesson with a higher level of partnership/trust then when they started, horses standing relaxed, with soft eyes, and both ears on their rider. I forgot to take pictures the first day, so missing a few riders. Many thanks to Leslie Cook for organizing.

Sadly, the event on my schedule on 10/26-27 had to be cancelled, which means I am available if you would like to host a clinic (could be mounted, horseless, a classroom session, or any combination of these), lesson day, or a schooling show (Working Equitation or any dressage based sport - dressage, Western Dressage, eventing dressage, working eq dressage).

Please, share the post and drop me a note if you are interested in hosting something.

Finally have the time to post pictures from the New Mexico State Fair Horse Shows 2024, courtesy of Lauren Aston Art . We had 2 days of Working Equitation clinic, followed by the schooling show. Many thanks to Mariah Wilson for bringing Working Equitation to the NM State Fair and to Zia Working Equitation Club for helping organize the event. show winners got beautiful buckles. A quick post about another amazing Oklahoma clinic. I had a chance to catch up with many friends, worked with my regular students and met some new ones. I did pretty well taking pictures or videos of the majority of riders - my apologies to those I missed. It was fun introducing dressage riders to Working Equitation obstacles and pushing Working Eq riders to reach for the next level. Many thanks to Dr. Kimberly Rasmussen for organizing, Lyn Francik and for hosting, and all of my students for their support. More photos and videos to come later.
P.S. Just counted and I did worse than I thought - completely missed 5 horse/rider combinations.

Last Saturday in South Bend most riders opted for a Working Equitation lessons. The Double Slalom is by far the most physically demanding obstacle in Ease of Handling.
1. Deb on the best school horse Misty is learning how to ask for bend and maintain the horse's balance using her seat and not relying on the reins.
2. Maja rode a big moving school horse Timon (a Professor, really) in contrast to her own smooth moving morgans. Keeping one's seat on horses with all kinds of gaits is a very important skill.
3. Kelly and her BIG boy Napoleon tried the obstacles for the very first time! A very respectable attempt for their first time.

Have you admired and chucked at those clever and humorous horse show ribbons? Here us your chance to stock up on them from the original source Ribbons For Winners! Great addition to any show award line-up, or just as gifts for friends and students. And just so happens that the creative genius behind these ribbons is just a Creative Genius, generally speaking - Holly Fisher's Windwalker Paintings, Flying Anvil Forge - Blacksmith Shop, and All Round Equine.

I don't often get photos of me while working/judging, so it was a nice surprise to see to capture a few moments during the inaugural Mustang Classic (mustang training competition in English riding). I had the pleasure to co-judge the Ease of Handling course.

Wishing all the best to my many friends showing at the Western Dressage Association of America WDAA Championship Show at the Lazy E Arena, Guthrie, Oklahoma. I am sad I couldn't make it this year - so y'all have fun on my behalf!
Photos of my most memorable World Show moment: Ivan's bridle broke during the test and I didn't realize it. The goodest boi carried his bit until the final halt, and when I dropped the reins to walk out, he finally let the bit fall out of his mouth. We were bit checked upon the exit, and I was all ready for it as his bit was dangling by his chest.

On my way home from an awesome clinic and a schooling show at the New Mexico State Fair Horse Shows 2024 . It was a very well ran event thanks to the tireless work of Mariah Wilson and the group of Fair volunteers. Thank you Teresa Heine and Sarah Regalado Porte of Zia Working Equitation Club my awesome scribe Cecilia, and volunteer ground crew, timers, our score runner.
Our clinic riders worked hard and had substantial improvements to show for it. As always, Working Equitation did not disappoint with a great variety of breeds - we had a couple of Iberian horses, a couple of araloosas, and a 18.2 h clydesdale!

Working equitation was a HIT at the fair! Great instruction, fantastic state fair show management and an incredible group of riders. More to come, but we ended the day with smiles all around 😊

Yesterday, I spent the day at The Michiana Event Center "The MEC" watching North American Clydesdale/Shire Fall Classic. The show continues today and tomorrow. I have to confess to not have been aware of this show at all, so I was very impressed with a huge exhibitor turnout (there were horses from all over the US and Canada), healthy premiums ($60K offered), and a great variety of classes, both driven and ridden. There were very few spectators on Thursday, but I suppose it's to be expected on a weekday during a school year.
Here are a few pictures - feel free to tag if you know the exhibitors.
