When the yard is white and the temps are frigid. Seed companies send out beautiful catalogs of things to come. I can’t help myself and love trying new seeds. These Scabiosa will definitely be on my list again next year. @bakercreekseeds
Garden stroll part 3. Progress. This entire garden is only 2 years old, previously it was just patchy grass. My vision is for an incredible lush landscape loaded with plants that provide food and homes for all of the critters. I have a vision in my head and it’s coming along, but the wait for the vision to come to is hard. In the mean time I am so pleased at how far it’s come along and remembering that at this time last year it was out of control with weeds and had no structure. It’s coming along, and part of gardening that is so fun is that it is never really done. There are always plants to move, split, and buy🤣.
A little stroll through the gardens part 1.
Mold vs Root hair
“I threw my tray away because of mold.”
This is the #1 comment I hear. Remember, because the seeds are on top of the growing medium you see a lot more than in standard gardening.
How to tell the difference? If you mist them the root hairs will shrink away and mold will stay and looks more like a spider web.
Edible flower garden part 2 of many 😂.
I plant my earliest flowering annuals beginning in December/January and cart them in and out in early spring until they are ready to go out on their permanent spot in the garden.
Seeds from @bakercreekseeds @johnnys_seeds @trueleafmarket and some from my own seed saving that was inspired by Michelle, the garden maven @forksinthedirt
Part 1 of the edible flower garden tour. Things have just begun to take off in the last few weeks. I have to remind myself constantly that each year is different. Last years weather was so warm early on I got a super head start. Things are chugging along now and so much of what I direct seeded is up and zooming. All of the plants I started in the basement in January are out and thriving! My violas have self seeded themselves as a sprinkling in the lawn and I love it!
It’s been a slow cold start to edible flower season. But it. Has. ARRIVED!
