In case you forgot that we have micro mint. We’ve been growing them to a large size, more like baby sized so you can adjust your garnish to your preference. Full sprig? Mint top? Single leaf? Ya dig?

Starting to fill up the new shade-house with some of our favorite microgreens. It’s winter so we are shifting grow cycles and adapting as the day length shortens and temperature dip into the 60’s. Next steps are to right size the operation with some new equipment. Stay tuned.

We are pushing forward with a project that’s been in the works for a minute. A lot of deliberations going into our third modular expansion in Kahalu’u.

The expansion will provide housing for hundreds of microgreen flats, henceforth more product for our partner accounts like Foodland / FarmLink Hawaii in the retail space, Sysco / Ham Produce & Seafood, and many restaurants across Honolulu.

In anticipation of this expansion, we have recently onboarded another full-time specialist focused on account management and distribution.

We are excited to move forward with these plans, and to be able to provide both work opportunities and improve accessibility to healthy greens.

Big mahalo to Justin for coming in clutch on the build. This bruddah has been a pleasure to work with. If you need someone for carpentry, we can connect you 🤙🏽

The biggest gift this year is having a support crew that believes in the mission and vision of our organization. To feed / to educate / to inspire sustainable agriculture practices for the benefit of the community. And to perpetuate farming for generations to come, not just because it’s fun or cool to do (though we have a lot of fun!)

We have been blessed with amazing partners in this industry who value providing these things to us as farmers:

1) meeting the farmer where their price HAS to be
2) prioritizing purchasing local products (that are high quality) even when it costs more per unit compared to imports. AND giving us time to pitch / propose how our local products would add value to their food program
3) extending services like connecting buyers with sellers, logistics/distribution tips on how to move product through the islands
4) offer constructive feedback back on products for the farmer to improve upon

To say we are grateful is an understatement. Mahalo

We recently reset this system to purge unwanted algae and white flies. Routine pest management is the key, and something we are just becoming familiar with ourselves. It’s easy to do one crop well, but there are about 50 varieties that we grow and sell weekly. This aspect of farming will always be a challenge.

It’s that time of year where we give thanks for the abundance of our food. The annual renewal is celebrated with the rainy season, but with that comes cooler weather and our green certainly love that. The workers, however, are reminded to slow down and take things easy. Mahalo to our hammah staff who continue to get better each and every week 💦🙇🏽‍♂️

aloha lā hānau e kaʻinapu! You’re officially THAT old - twenty one years around the sun - and finally able to enjoy a cold beer with us at the end of the day 🍻

From highschool intern, to farmer, to our big boss lady manager!? We have seen you grow so much, and are excited for your bright future!

We can wait for more surf sessions in the home zone, more food adventures, and more laughs as we continue on our microgreen mission!

Cheers to you and your weird selfies that magically appeared on my phone! Did you not think we’d repost them?!

We are delighted to have recently onboarded these amazing Aloha ʻĀina peeps as employees. Kaʻilima and pūlama are two of the coolest Kamakau alumni taking on today and tomorrow’s issues head on. They have such good energy, and leave us feeling positive about the next generation. Man, what an honor for us to be able to hand them their first paychecks! The stoke is real!

Honolulus Farm has been working behind the scenes to reduce imported microgreens by providing high-quality produce at volume. It’s a difficult process for any farm to scale, but it starts with a good product. Our sprouts are grown outdoors using natural media with organic inputs and zero pesticides. We are stoked to have recently completed our USDA Group GAP food safety audit with and want to mahalo their program for elevating Hawaii farms and giving us the opportunity to compete with imported foods!

When we shift towards new batches of seed, we often find ourselves frantically trying to adjust. Not all seed batches are created the same; and even when the germination rates are great (one of the many determinants of a good seed), the size of the seed, the growth rate, and the robustness or ability to withstand environmental conditions are always different.

These nasturtium seeds (shoots) in the image below would not germinate under our usual prescribed method. We almost decided to dump the entire lot! After one week of no success, we attempted to germinate them under different conditions, and when we did, we had remarkable success. It goes to show that we are still learning and overcoming challenges every day on the farm!

Nasturtium shoots will be in stock at Chef Zone again soon, and always available for direct sale (email in bio).
