Can I let my dog on the couch?

Many of our clients are surprised to hear our answer: it’s ENTIRELY up to you.

As long as your dog is not showing signs of aggressive or resource guarding behavior, pooches are welcome on the couch as much as you see fit!

That being said, keep in mind that if you do not set boundaries with your dog around the couch, allowing them to jump around, play, and climb on top of you as they see fit, these behaviors will absolutely occur when guests come over to sit on your couch. If that’s something you’d like to avoid, it’s best to be fair to your dog and set boundaries from the beginning!

How do I stop my dog from barking, lunging, and getting overly excited at the front door?

You give your dog clear direction and boundaries to help them gain control of their energy.

One command we use for this is "Place." This means the dog will go to an area big enough for them to sit on with a clearly defined edge and stay there until released. It's a great way to handle doorbell anticipation and excitement.

Not only is "Place" practical, but it can be a FUN way to teach dogs body awareness and confidence!
