Go and check out the school I received my training from! The other top school triple crown academy is founded and run by two former Tom rose graduates. http://journalstar.com/lifestyles/misc/behind-bars-dogs-find-a-second-chance/article_c0fd9ae6-6054-502a-b56c-af8a17fce748.html
If I've had the privilege of work with you and your dog I would appreciate any feedback on my page.
....only if its good though ;)
All of my business has been word of mouth and that's something I take serious pride in. So you got a few minutes to write a quick recommendation that would be awesome and greatly appreciated. About Me:
I may have only had my own in home training business for a short time but I have had amazing result with the many clients I have the privilege to work with. I train on proven methods taught to me by instructors that have work with thousands of dogs. But what matters the most is i will change my methods to meet each individual dog and their needs, because no two dogs are alike and one strict way will never work with all dogs! I am the head trainer for second chance pups where I go into the Nebraska state pennatintary and train the inmates to train the dogs to pass the AKC'S CGC (canine good citizen) test through a 9 week program. It is a absolute honor, privilege and blessing to have the chance to be the head trainer for this amazing program which is run by all volunteers as I am a volunteer too! I also spent two and half years at camp bow wow where I quickly become the guy who could handle all of the crazy and wild dogs in my yard. I am a certified camp counselor and a camp cousnselor specialist through them as well. I was in charge of evaluating any new dogs before introducing them into the play yards. I also decided which dogs to put with one another in certain yards. This is where I fine tuned my skills of being able to control twenty or more dogs in a yard all off leash. I learned how to control with my body language and energy, not with with my voice or physical touch
After a stint at Veterott college to become a vet tech I made the best choice in enrolling in the Tom Rose School for Professional Dog Trainers. This is where I learned how to be a trainer in the competitive working dog world. Whether you are interested in having a well-behaved pet for your home, or you are looking to compete in AKC obedience or in protection dog sports (Schutzhund, PSA, Ring sport), I cater to each individual dog so that training is effective, reliable, and fun. Attending the Tom Rose School was a challenging experience but has proven to be a very rewarding one. While attending TRS, I spent ten months learning all different aspects of canine training, including basic through advanced competition level obedience, Schutzhund, AKC agility, narcotics detection, tracking, personal protection, and puppy imprinting. As students at TRS we conducted group obedience classes on a weekly basis, as well as held private lessons with clients and their canines to address more specific behavioral issues. Also, we were responsible for handling board and train dogs, in which we trained dogs staying at the boarding kennel for approximately 2 weeks before handing them back to their owners. These dogs usually had behavioral issues that we worked through and then taught the owners how to deal with their newly trained dogs. I offer a variety of things for you and your dog to learn such as:
Private lessons in home training
Aggression management towards dogs, children & strangers
Basic and/or advanced canine obedience training
Detection training
House breaking (Puppies and older dogs)
Barking, chewing, digging resolution
Behavior modification for timid dogs
Separation anxiety
Tracking
Personal protection
Agility Dog Training
Therapy Dog Training
In-Home or Public Park Training
Off-leash training
Detector Dog Training
Ever want to have or work with a Detector Dog? Well, look no further than the dog you already own! Training will come to your home and show you how to train your dog to play the fun game of detection. Dogs can smell for just about anything, including narcotics and just about anything you can think of! The game is always fun (no negative reinforcement ever), we just have to show them what to look for. You can use your dogs natural born talent to screen any items that you don't want in your home and it doesn't take a certain breed to teach them to do detection work. This is a great way to stimulate the mind for those dogs who can run and run but don't seem to get tired
have found I have a nack for aggressive dogs wether that be towards people other dogs or other animals. I found out early on in school I have a what one teacher called unteachable nack and ablility to read and react to dogs who have been forced to act out what people perceive as aggression. I look forward to a call of a dog who has any sort of aggression issue, people, dogs, animals, food aggression as well! I also have found I have a great touch for dogs who are afraid of life, they seem to be afraid of anything and everything. That's not saying they have to be that afraid I deal with any and all fear issues. Even if your dog is already well behaved it is always a good idea to learn some new training or new skills that you can use on a daily basis! Your dog never stops learning and never wants to they need mental stimulation as much or more than they need physical exercise. I can take my dog out on a seven mile run with me on a bicycle and we get back and he wants to play ball still!!!! Does that sound familiar well i can train him for forty five minutes and he will sleep the day away because i exercised his brain as well! Thats why you see the new fad of dog toys being the ones that are puzzles or make them think to get the treat! Every dog has a unique personality and disposition. Because of this, every dog needs to be trained differently. This requires a unique trainer, with a wide range of experience and a wealth of knowledge. Whether you want to train a young puppy, or an older dog, you need expert guidance to effectively train your four-legged friend. If you love your dog, you can count on Me Paul Stromberg of Four on the floor dog Training to train your dog with what is BEST for the dog and for you! Patience, Care, understanding and Compassion is some of the key ingredients to help the misunderstood dogs
I have started to develop my own technique style of training. I am combining my skills I was taught in my school which demands perfection from the dogs in order to win competitions, with the new techniques I have been taught to me from second chance pups and my own trial and errors. It is a style that makes for a great dog who picks up on what you want quicker and easier thus making training fun for both of you and if you aren't having fun while training then why would you do it? The three most important aspects of dog training are timing, motivation, and consistency. When pairing all three aspects together, training a dog becomes easy, highly effective, reliable, and fun. Good timing with rewards or corrections is the easiest way to communicate with your dog what is acceptable behavior and what is unacceptable behavior. Research has shown that you have 1.3 seconds to tie cause and effect together in order for the dog to learn what you are teaching. Motivation goes hand in hand with timing. Motivation can either be positive or negative. A positive motivator would be using food or a toy to teach a dog what they are doing is correct. Think of it as you giving your dog a paycheck for a job well done. The more you reward a behavior, the more likely that behavior will continue. A negative motivator would be some sort of correction, such as a pop on a pinch collar. When using a negative motivator, it is helpful to think about yourself getting a speeding ticket. Say you get pulled over for speeding and you receive a $5 ticket. Not a big deal right? Well then the next time you are running late for work, you won’t think twice about speeding because the negative motivator was not enough to deter you from speeding again. However, if in the same scenario you receive a speeding ticket for $500, I bet you are definitely going to think twice before speeding again. The same thing goes for training dogs. Your corrections and rewards need to be clear cut in order not to confuse your dog. The most important aspect of training a dog is consistency. Consistency is where most people fail at training their dog. Being inconsistent is truly the worst thing you can do in the training process. Your dog doesn’t understand why you yell at it one minute and then ignore the same behavior ten minutes later. This causes a lot of confusion which severely stunts learning. If everyone in your household knows what the rules are and sticks to them consistently, and even if you pay no attention to timing or motivation, your dog will eventually learn what you are trying to teach them. Every single dog is different from one another. What works for one dog may not work for another. That is why adapting a training program that caters to each individual dog is very important. Sometimes a pinch collar is too much for a dog to handle, and sometimes a pinch collar is not enough! Whatever type of collar you feel most comfortable using with your dog on a daily basis is the collar I would use for training. Whether that be a regular flat collar, a pinch collar, a Halti (gentle leader), or an electric remote collar, I can help you to communicate to your dog what is expected of them. Why use Four on the Floor dog training:
Your dog is a lifetime companion. An investment made now in this
very important relationship will reap lasting benefits in the future! Put in a year of hard work and have eight to fifteen years of bliss thats a small trade off if you ask me! So, don’t trust your best friend to an inexperienced, fly-by-night dog
trainer who is “here today and gone tomorrow.” Don't be crammed
into an overcrowded little circle in the middle of a pet store with a
bunch of other people and their dogs, and an instructor who is
unable to give you the personal attention you require! Don't send
your dog away for "in-board training" where you are not involved
and your dog is stressed at being away from home for up to several
weeks. Successful dog training requires the full participation of
the dog's human family. It is fully dependent upon your
relationship with your dog, and you will get out of it what you put
into it! I work with you and your family one-on-one in the comfort of your
own home! Your dog is trained in its own environment and learns
how to behave and respond to obedience commands in typical
everyday situations. The thing i live by is if it sounds to good to be true it probably is:
Any trainer that tells you it will be easy for you is a good example, working with your dog is hard and can be difficult at times but the rewards will trump anything you go through in the early process
I have read and heard everything from purely positive training to operative training to dominance based training and what it comes down to is you can’t say which one will work for any given dog, that is a big red flag for me when working with other trainers is when i hear them say i only train ‘using this method” or “that method”. Any of these statements or any like them saying they only do it a certain way or it will be “super easy” i challenge you question that, if it either of those were true why would you have called a professional dog trainer in to help? HOW IS IN-HOME TRAINING SUPERIOR TO OTHER
TRAINING METHODS? LET ME COUNT THE WAYS:
#1. A group class is NOT the best or safest way to socialize your
puppy! Puppy "kindergarten" type group classes are UNNECESSARY
unless you live in Outer Mongolia or are a recluse. People think they
need these classes to "socialize" their puppies, but in most cases
your daily life already offers many opportunities for socialization. Even more important is the fact that the optimum time for
socializing your puppy is BY THE AGE OF 12 WEEKS! At this young
age, it is UNSAFE for your puppy to be around a lot of other dogs,
due to exposure to possible canine diseases, for which he is not
yet adequately immunized. The best, safest and most efficient choice for you as a new "puppy
parent" is to get an in-home trainer to help and advise you with
your new puppy's socialization, along with its basic training. I also
teach you how to continue the socialization process, plus help you
with any emerging or established socialization problems your dog
might already exhibit.
#2. Where do you and your dog live -- in a pet store, or at home? Dogs do not automatically generalize what they learn. For example,
if your dog learns to listen to you in a pet store or training facility,
this will not magically translate into her listening to you when you
both get home. If your dog is walking nicely next to you in puppy
class, this does not mean that she will do the same when walking
with you in your neighborhood and encountering cats, barking dogs,
joggers, squirrels, traffic, bicycles, etc. You see where this is going!
#3. A professional in-home trainer can gather all the important
information that is an integral part of the training process. When I
come to your home and meet you and your family, I have the
opportunity to observe the dynamics and interaction between the
dog and each family member. I can see the environment in which the
dog lives and spot potential problems, or situations that need
improvement, to make life easier for the dog and everyone in the
household. I develop a rapport with your family and offer valuable
insights and guidance in order to bring about harmony between your
family and your dog. All of this is just not possible in a group class
setting.
#4. Puppy class is not enough! Many people think that going
through a puppy class will set their dog up for good behavior for the
rest of the dog's life. Unfortunately, that's just not the way it works! Like human children, dogs go through various stages of development
before reaching full maturity. Many people call an in-home trainer
when their dog reaches adolescence (sometime around 6 months),
because they suddenly find that their "teenage dog" is no longer
responding to what it learned in puppy class a couple of months ago! That's when dog parents realize they need more personalized help,
but if they would have worked with an in-home trainer from the
beginning, they would have avoided this problem, as they would
have had the tools and knowledge to deal with it. Instead, they end
up paying TWICE for their dog's training!
#5. In-home training gives you valuable help with behavior
problems, which is not possible in a group class. A group instructor
does not see your home situation and cannot advise you on the best
way to resolve the issue and prevent future problems. Remember,
prevention is far easier than dealing with a full-blown behavior
problem once it becomes a habit with the dog.
#6. Classes can be overwhelming to a dog. Although it is
important for a dog to learn to listen around distractions, the ideal
way to train a dog is to introduce distractions gradually at a level the
dog can handle. Classes in a large facility such as a pet store can be
so overstimulating to a dog, especially a puppy, that the dog's ability
to learn will be adversely affected. In its own home, the dog will be
much more relaxed, and we can control the environment to ensure
the best possible learning experience. Then I will show you how to
gradually increase your dog's tolerance to distractions in a
reasonable way.
#7. You must be actively involved in your dog's training! Obviously, a dog who is boarded at a training facility will learn to
listen to the trainer -- but where does that leave you? Don't be
fooled by trainers who tell you that they can train your dog
without your involvement, whether at your home or their facility,
because "you just don't have the time." A good rapport with your
dog is essential to the training process. Your dog needs to learn to
respond to YOU, not just the trainer! There is no easy way -- you
need to be involved in your dog's training if you want it to be
successful. A responsible dog owner will find the time to properly
raise and train their dog. A quick session when you pick up the dog doesn't even scratch the
surface of what you need to know to be a responsible dog parent If
you send your dog away to be trained, your dog will be under a
great deal of stress being away from his home and family, and he
could contract an infection or other health hazard or injury from a
kennel environment. You also cannot observe what the trainer is
doing with your dog. Personally, I wouldn't want to leave my dog in
the hands of someone who is shaping my dog's behavior if I cannot
see what is going on and what methods are being used. Would you?
#8. Who ya gonna call? Okay, so it's a few months after your puppy
class at Megahumongous Pet Store, but your dog is suddenly acting
like a maniac! He has developed a whole slew of behavior problems,
and when you give him a command he looks at you as though you
just landed from Mars. Call the instructor from
Megahumongous Pet Store? Chances are, she will not even
remember who you are, and even if she does, she does not know
your home situation and so would not know how to best advise you
to solve the problems. My clients know that they can call on me at any time when they have
a question or problem with their dog, not only during the course of
training but FOR THE LIFETIME OF THEIR DOG -- and since I know
them and their dog well, know their situation, and keep a file on
each client, I will be able to give them the help and advice they need,
even a free brush-up lesson if required!
#9. There is no need to find a babysitter or to exclude your children
from the training sessions. In-home training can involve the whole
family, and get the job done effectively, without your ever having to
leave home! Having your children participate in the training process
is a great learning experience for them, and it helps foster a sense of
responsibility for another living creature.
#10. In-home training offers you customized training courses. We
can design the best possible training plan for your dog and your
situation. You, your family, and I will decide together what sort of
things your dog needs to learn and what you would like him to
learn. And after the basics, you can go on to advanced training --
such as off-lead work or fun tricks if you want to.
#11. In-home training offers flexible time slots. Can't make the
Wednesday night classes at Megahumongous Pet Store because of a
scheduling conflict? Too bad! But with in-home training, you have
much more flexibility as to the day and time of your training
sessions. Although I do not train 24/7, I do my best to accommodate
my clients' schedules, within reason. (By the way, knowing the
trainer is coming to the house tends to keep people more motivated
about the training!) :-)
#12. Group classes only appear to be cheaper. A first impression may
be that group classes are less expensive than in-home training. But,
this can be deceptive, as many group classes are divided into
"levels." You may find that by the time you go through all the various
levels to get your dog fully trained, you will have spent far more time
and money than if you would have worked with an in-home trainer
right from the start. Very little actual training is done in most of the group "puppy
classes," and they are usually a waste of time and money. So why
pay twice for your puppy's training? You can get it all done by
starting right out with my "Life Lessons 101 Course for Puppies,"
which is all most dogs will ever need to be wonderful lifetime
companions! In the long run, in-home training is the much better value, because
your dog (and you) will be effectively trained in the most beneficial
way, and you will have lifetime support at no extra charge. As the old
saying goes, "You get what you pay for!" You will get far more value
for your dollar with a professional, experienced in-home trainer! These are just a few of the many advantages of professional in-
home dog training. There are many more, but you get the idea!
