VINCENT UPDATE:
Vincent’s back in his foster home & doing very well. Sadly, he can’t go back to playing with his brother until after he has a recheck. There is in fear Claude will accidentally hurt him. Vincent is taking 4 meds & has to be crated for now but he can have time out of the crate, just not with Claude. We are so happy he is on the road to recovery. Thank you for helping us make a difference.
UPDATE ON VINCENT 2
This is a pic of Vincent this morning when he went in for surgery. He will be spending the night at SAVES. His surgeon said he did very well. He may have some permanent issues (like Horner’s syndrome) but they won’t know that until he recovers. His ear was a mess & he could not have waited any longer for the surgery. We are very grateful that so many ppl reached out to help. We will let you know how he is tomorrow when he is discharged & gets to go back to his foster home. His brother, Claude, misses him!

One of the colonies we help with had a kitty show up that is an obvious pet. This is a smaller, neutered male between 1 & 2 y/o. He is NOT microchipped. He is at our Vet’s office & will be staying with a volunteer. Please reach out to us if you believe this is your cat. We will require proof, pics, identifying marks, etc. He was in the West Asheville area. We can’t release the exact site because there is a feral colony there & unfortunately people dump their cats there frequently.
If you follow us, you know that we don’t routinely ask for donations on a weekly or even regular basis for FurEver Friends operating expenses. We occasionally ask for donations for a single cat with medical needs. In the past, I have been fortunate to be able to donate my retirement check every month to FEF. When Glynn Lookabill passed, I could no longer do that. Glynn also donated if we were running short. Now that we no longer have that option, we have a big request today for a very special kitten.
What happens when kittens tangle with a lawnmower? Thankfully they survived but were missing a few body parts. One of our lawnmower babies is in immediate need of surgery. I will post a video in comments of his head tilt, walking situation now. The fluid is building up in his ear. When we pulled Vincent & Claude (formerly Crispin & Rufus) it was felt they would need no further intervention for their wounds. It was believed that Vincent had no ear canal left so would not need surgery. (Claude lost some toes.) Our vet has seen them both multiple times for chronic URI & she felt there was at least a partial ear canal left. She referred him to SAVES & he was then scheduled for a CT Scan. His bills at SAVES so far - first visit $195, CT scan was $1736.09. His surgery bill is estimated in the $4k-$5k range. That is something we cannot afford. We need to schedule his surgery now. We have over 6,000 followers. If you can spare a dollar, we can do this. Can you help?

The colony cats appreciate your donations. Hazel says more has started to come in. For someone that asked, the community cat food is kept seperate from FEF cat food. That is why it goes to Hazel. She has appropriate storage for it. When you leave food at PetSupermarket in the donation bin, mark it “Feral Food” if that is where you want it to go. We do keep it seperate. The community cats say a great big thank you & so do we.
Wagner had multiple suitors yesterday. The family that won his heart took him home to be friends with another FEF kitty. We couldn’t be happier for him! Live your very best life Wagner!

Why is our Feral Friday post on Thursday? Because the community cats are completely out of canned food. We do have 5 bags of dry food left but no canned food at all. Dry food will run out within the week. This is their Amazon wish list but any food is appreciated. Thank you!

FIP Facts: GS441524 is administered for 84 days. CBC & Chem 17 is drawn thoughout the course of treatment & at the end of treatment. If bloodwork is where it should be, 84 days of observation will start & bloodwork will be continued throughout the observation period. It may be recommended that a Batman continue meds & test again in 30 days. It all depends on the blood work - that we are anxiously awaiting! It’s National Feral Cat Day. Please don’t feed & let them breed. If you care for feral cats, you need to spay and neuter them. Being a feral is not an easy life. Kris Cari Moore & Glynn Lookabill trapped this week & this girl is very happy she is free & won’t ever be having babies. Kris released her today to live the life that she wants to live, on her own terms. She has caretakers that feed her twice a day & let us know if she needs trapping because she’s ill.
