What are doing for your pet’s teeth?🪥🦷

If you think feeding a certain diet will clean your pet’s teeth, think again, according to recent studies, almost 90% of dogs🐶 will have developed some form of periodontal disease by 2 years of age. What’s worse, dental disease has been linked to heart🫀, kidney and liver disease in dogs!

For most, trying to brush your dog’s teeth is a nightmare! However, new surprising science has our backs! A recent peer-reviewed study found dogs who chewed on specific pieces of bones🦴 had almost 90% of tartar buildup removed and the bones did not cause any root fracture, enamel fracture, or bone resorption. The study concluded pet parents should be using specific bones for their pet’s regular oral hygiene.

However, before you run out to go purchase a bag of teeth cleaning bones, realize there are DEFINITELY rules for purchasing the right bone for your dog! In the “Raw Bone Rules” section of our upcoming book, The Forever Dog, we not only highlight the new scientific benefits of giving your dog raw bones but we also cover all the steps in selecting the right bone for your canine companion. P.S. - Our new book is now available for pre-order worldwide! www.foreverdog.com

ATTENTION Pet Parents!

A chemical used in Milk-Bones, Ol’Roy, Kibbles’n Bits, Hill’s Pet Food and other pet foods should no longer be considered safe for consumption due to concerns about its ability to damage DNA according to a new animal-model study.

According to the Environmental Working Group: “A scientific panel created by the European Food Safety Authority found that titanium dioxide “can no longer be considered as safe when used as a food additive.” The panel, citing concerns about titanium dioxide’s genotoxicity, or its ability to damage DNA, based its conclusion on a review of hundreds of scientific studies. EWG called on the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to quickly consider whether to ban titanium dioxide from use in food."

A chemical that may damage our pet's DNA should not be fed to pets.

Titanium dioxide is on The Forever Dog’s Dirty Dozen list of additives you need to avoid in your pet food. www.ForeverDog.com/about

"Heads Up Pet Parents if You're Feeding Your Pets Store-bought Jerky Treats!!⚠️

( )

A new veterinary study published in the journal of Tierärztliche Praxis found that dogs are still developing a kidney disorder called Fanconi-like syndrome when fed pet jerky treats.

Fanconi is a disorder of kidney function that results in excess excretion of glucose, electrolytes and amino acids in urine. Signs of the illness included decreased appetite, lethargy, vomiting, diarrhea, polydipsia and polyuria.

This new study isn't actually new news to veterinarians, in 2007, veterinarians became aware of Fanconi-like signs in multiple other dog breeds without a recognized genetic predisposition, and alerted the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, prompting an investigation. The chief suspect then was found to be commercial jerky treats.

As of today, the FDA has received approximately 5,200 complaints of illnesses associated with consumption of chicken🍗, duck🦆, or sweet potato🍠 jerky treats. The reports involve more than 6,200 dogs, 26 cats, three people, and include more than 1,140 canine deaths." - Rodney Habib

If you want to learn more about potentially dangerous pet treats, and/or ingredients you should look out for when purchasing pet food (as well as all the DIY real food snacks your dogs will love), our new book called The Forever Dog is packed with surprising new science that will help your dog live healthier, happier, and longer. The book is set to hit store shelves soon! You can reserve your copy here: https://foreverdog.com/dog-longevity-health-and-nutrition-book/

What type of dog water bowl do you use? 🐶💧

The dog water bowl has previously been identified as the third most contaminated🦠 item within the household and can be a breeding ground for dangerous germs & life-threatening bacteria🧫 that can put the entire house at risk, researchers at University Centre Hartpury have revealed.

So, which dish is best to use for a dog water bowl? The bowl that grows the least amount of life-threatening bacteria!

In the first study of its’ kind, Hartpury scientists found stainless steel grew the least amount of bacteria and over time, plastic bowls grew the highest amount, but the shocking part was the most harmful bacterial species (including salmonella, E. coli and MRSA) were most frequently identified in CERAMIC bowls!

Lead can also be a problem when using ceramic bowls, and the endocrine disrupting chemicals found in plastic bowls are a no-go! Also be aware plastic bowls🥣 can cause Plastic Dish Nasal Dermatitis🙀: Chemicals in plastic absorb through the skin and inhibit the synthesis of melanin, leaving the nose👃🏼 and adjacent areas with pink blotches.

So stainless steel🍴 bowls are the safest, right?

Well not so fast…. there’s even been recalls on stainless bowls😫. In our upcoming The Forever Dog book, in the chapter titled Environmental Impact and the section labelled “Toxic Toys, Chews, and Beds", we cover how to choose the best chemical-free bowls🚫 that won’t leach contaminants over time. The cancer-fighting vegetable you should be sharing with your dog! 🥦

No matter what type of pet food you are feeding, adding broccoli to your pet’s diet is a powerful way to make any pet food better and have a profound impact on your dog’s health. 🐶

When writing our new book, The Forever Dog, we wanted to equip you with easy-to-add foods that can add valuable nutrition to your pet’s bowl.

In the chapter “Dietary Habits for a Long and Healthy Life” we cover all of the dog-friendly foods, herbs and fluids that provide nutrient diversity, build the microbiome and bolster your dog’s antioxidant, and polyphenol intake… smart choices for delaying aging! 🧬

Building A Better bowl is one of the many simple strategies in The Forever Dog book to intentionally create a thriving dog. Available now for pre-order at https://foreverdog.com/about/

📖Here’s an excerpt from The Forever Dog:

Broccoli contains a critical compound called “sulforaphanes” ….When tested in both animals and human studies, sulforaphanes slowed the rate of cancer and cardiovascular biomarkers, reduced inflammation markers, and significantly removed toxins from the body, including harmful heavy metals, mycotoxins, and AGEs!

In addition to being loaded with gut-friendly fiber, cruciferous vegetables also come with vitamins, antioxidants, and substances with anti-inflammatory effects. Broccoli in particular contains two supermolecules: 3,3'-Diindolylmethane (DIM) and sulforaphane, which naturally boost glutathione levels.…Research in dogs also shows DIM can also have antitumor/anticancer activity. Sulforaphane has been studied for bone and bladder cancer in dogs with impressive results. A key point: The magic of sulforaphane is found only when broccoli is eaten; dogs and people don’t benefit from sulforaphane in supplement form because it degrades so quickly. This magical molecule stimulates apoptosis (healthy, programmed cell death) in your dog’s body, which is vital when bad cancerous cells need to be killed.
