“Ginger”
Just a little over a year old.
Probably stands 12/13hh tall.

“Ginger” has a want to learn and be in your pocket. She was completely wild when I bought her earlier this year. She’s now halter broke and leads well, I currently do not have the extra time to mess with her which is not benefiting her at all. I would LOVE to get her into a new home so someone could handle her all winter. She picks up on things extremely fast. She’s been first to greet me at the gate. I do have some videos of her trotting/running around the pasture to show her movement.

I have been quiet on here while we have been prepping for fair and man did it pay off!

Huge congratulations to my lesson kiddo Liz!!!

She got grand champion for speed in her age division!

She also has been leasing my mare for the summer who is not an easy ride at all! She’s put in a load of work to figure her out this summer and it paid off!

“Snooki”
Grade 4 yo filly
Right around 15.2 if not taller. She’s a big girl.

As much as I want to keep her I just genuinely do not have the time for her right now in my life.

Shes sat more than she’s been rode this year with that being said she has always rode off well with no funny business. She’s broke w/t/c she’s starting to have a big nice woah to her. She knows her leads. We took her camping twice last year and she will picket and stay in a portable pen, she trail rides great. She’s extremely sensitive on the ground and can at times be looky. She gives to her face well and is starting to move her shoulders and side pass. She need a firm but gentle hand and she will excel in any discipline.

First two pics are from end of last week, I’ll hopefully grab better ones this weekend.

Grade 3yo filly
Around 15.2hh

I’ve personally owned her since she was a yearling and have known her since she was born. She is broke w/t/c she is SO smooth and all legs. She’s a bit sensitive on the ground and undersaddle.
She’s been trail road and camping over night and handled all of that well. She’s never refused anything and has been very willing. She rides the same whether she sits or rides everyday. I wanted to hold on to her but she just isn’t getting used unfortunately and life’s expensive.
I will be picky where she goes. Not just anyone is going to come test ride her if I don’t think your a good fit for her.

If you listen they will tell you there is a problem.

A hesitation at the gate. A hesitation turning around. A hesitation backing up.

A hesitation backing off the trailer. Pinning their ears when you are saddling.

Standing in the back corner of their stall.

If you listen they will tell you.

Things I think EVERY BEGINNER BARREL RACER SHOULD HEAR:

1. One run a day is enough for your horse, rollovers are your friend! This one will make most of your alley issues disappear.

2. A good farrier is important, cheap isn’t saving you money. What you don’t spend on the farrier, you’ll spend on the vet.

3. Have a good performance vet on your side, the simple shots and coggins vet isn’t going to cut it.

4. A broke horse is a great horse. Teach your horse to do more than just turn circles.

5. You’re as much as an athlete as your horse. Treat yourself like one.

6. Don’t let small minded friends keep you from your goals. Don’t let others opinions keep you from growing.

7. If someone hauls you and your horse, or lends you a horse. Say thank you, return the favor. Buy them a drink, pinch in for fuel, or buy them dinner. It goes a long way!

8. Negativity shouldn’t be allowed in the truck. Positive vibes only.

9. Find a mentor, someone who isn’t afraid to tell you the truth when you need it and don’t want to hear it.

10. If the horse isn’t working or it’s keeping you from growing, it is okay to sell it. Horses are stepping stones.

Stay tuned, over the next few weeks I’m going to hit each of these points in depth and give you the “whys” behind these thoughts. ❤️

Disappointment and frustration-that's what you feel when you don’t perform as well as you had planned.

The walk back to the stall or trailer-that's all the time you get to wallow in self pity.

Evaluate the problem.
Make an adjustment.
Execute the plan.

Sooner or later you will get tired of kicking your own butt.

Now-go do your job.

SUCCESS DEMAND
THESE 6 THINGS

1. HARD WORK
Don't believe in luck, believe in hard work. Stop trying to rush the process or searching for a shortcut. There is none.

2. PATIENCE
If you are losing the patience, you are losing the battle. First nothing happens, then it happens slowly and suddenly all at once. Most people give up at stage one.

3. SACRIFICE
If you don't sacrifice for what you want, then what you want becomes the sacrifice.
Everything has its price. The question is: Are you ready to pay it for the life you desire?

4. CONSISTENCY
Consistency is what transforms average into excellence. Without consistency, you will never achieve greater success.

5. DISCIPLINE
Motivation gets you going, but discipline keeps you growing. There will be days when you don't "feel" like doing it. You have to push through those days regardless of how you feel.

6. SELF CONFIDENCE
Confidence is, I'II be fine if they don't like me. There will always be someone judging you for who you are and what you want from life.

Drop a 💯if you read to the end!!!
This shows you are part of the 0.01% who actually finish what they start.

OPIE
12 year old bay roan QH gelding
Right around 15.2 hands and STOUT.

Opie has mostly been used for trail riding. Can be a little hard to catch but normally comes for grain or up in the run in. He is watchy on the ground but has not been under saddle for us. really wants to please you and catches on fast. Nice mover, soft in the mouth. He will bend and flex and move off of your leg pressure well. Barefoot and sound, w/t/c nice woah. Backs up well and will set his head. Loads and unloads good in the trailer. He is currently out with 2 mares and one other gelding and get along fine with them all. Middle of the pecking order.

Don't enter that pen already defeated.

Read that again...and again...

Confession: I scratched a goal off of my list because I had convinced myself it was no longer within the realm of possibility. Something happened recently and I put that goal in the #1 spot.
And then it hit me...

I have wasted so much valuable time - so many important runs - because I entered those pens already beat.

How often do we do this?
We show up and the first thing we do is go look at our stage for the night. We fuss about the ground, the setup, the angle to the first - we've already looked at the draw before we even got there and decided we would settle for 4th hole. We are literally counting ourselves out before our run even starts. And the minute something goofy happens in the run, we think, "Well there goes that W." We quit on ourselves before it's really over. Then we have the audacity to come out pi**ed off, "wondering" what happened.

Stop showing up defeated.

The ground, the setup, the angles - everyone there is fighting those battles, too. What REALLY makes you think you have less of a chance to win than anyone else? Figure that one out and work on it.

You've got to run in there like you own that place...like you've never been more prepared for THAT pen. You have to let go of all the BS you can't control.

It's not enough to just hope to win. You have to believe that you belong there, that you deserve it. Run in there with the mindset that this game can't end any other way.

And if you can't do it for yourself - if you don't think you deserve that level of freedom from doubt - do it for your horse, because she certainly does.

Sir Michael
“Big mike”
7 year old ottb gelding
16.2hh
Located in vermontville mi

Big mike has been off the track for about 2 years and completely sat for a full year so he has plenty of down time to start a new job. We have put about 60 days on him of consistent riding. He will comfortably walk/trot/ canter both directions. He has done a few flying changes for us as well.
He has been hauled to play day events and stood at the trailer fine all day.
Big mike did retire with a fracture in his ankle but has had proper down time to heal and has not taken a lame step since. He is first to greet you in the pasture and is pretty easy to catch. Loads well and has a current coggins. I can see this guy going in any direction, he’s easy to be around.

I currently have 2 geldings in my barn for sale-

14 year old Ottb sorrel gelding with LOTS of chrome, easy going guy, he is blind in his left eye but has been for years and does not effect him.

12 year old bay roan gelding who has mostly been used for trail riding, can be a little watchy on the ground but is a sweet heart once you have your hands on him.

Both boys are Atleast 15.2/15.3 if not bigger. They will each be under mid 4 figures. I have not personally rode them yet but plan to this week and get pictures!

Quitting is not an option.

There is a solution to every problem.

Rework the plan, make an adjustment.

Take a step back and evaluate.

But do not quit.

Keep pushing forward.

There will be a reward for the hard work.

Here’s your yearly PSA about loose salt Vs salt blocks!!

Did you know that salt blocks were designed for cattle? Cattle have rough washcloth type tongues like a cat. They can lick those blocks and get enough salt. Especially in a herd situation there are enough cows to actually USE up the blocks.

Did you know that horses have a smooth tongue? Much like a dog or even us! Horses on average need 2-3 tablespoons of salt daily for all the bodily functions that require salt!!

It would take a horse hours on a salt block to get enough. Many horses have actually learned to give up on the blocks and will ignore them. Never even trying to get enough salt. You know what getting a salt burn on your tongue feels like right???

So consider choosing loose salt for your equine buddies! It’s SUPER cheap! I was at TSC yesterday and priced a 50 lbs bag for less than $10!

Did you know?

In a natural environment, horses will typically eat about 18 hours per day.

While “meal feeding” is the common practice among horse owners, it’s important to take into consideration the amount of time between meals when there is no access to long stem forage.

At 6 hours, reddening of the stomach lining occurs, and at 18 hours, full blown bleeding lesions are present (ulcers).

Let’s say you throw hay at 7pm and it’s gone by 10pm, then it’s given again at 7am. That’s 9 hours per night, every night, of an empty stomach. Reddening can occur at 6 hours. Imagine you applied an abrasive/irritating lotion to a spot on your arm every night for a year. Over time that spot would worsen from a minor surface burn to a painful open wound.

It’s recommended that horses never go more than 4 hours without long stem forage passing through the gut. In the situation where free choice access isn’t a viable option, try utilizing slow feeders to help slow down consumption and drag out the time between feedings.
