Yesterday 1/17/2024, Sandoval County Animal Control officer Gentry under the Sheriff's direction placed a Livetrap on a well used road in front of the next door neighbor's gate in hopes of luring Placitas Animal Rescue's animals. Only 1 neighbors dog has been caught.
I rescue and receive in animals with all kinds of Bad Habits that include jumping/climbing all kinds of fences, biting through fences, and occasionally fighting and so on. I do have a lock down kennel, but the doggies that are dangerous to each other have to be put down. I Do Not get any Government Assistance and the the County just spent close to $750,000 on 17 small temp kennels at the court house and Dump.
I have asked Sandoval County Sheriff to work with me and to take the animals I rescue and receive. Unfortunately, though I was trying to scale down receiving and holding, and even announced retirement of my non-profit PAR after 36 years, I could not actually retire, as the County flatly declined to take even one animal per month. I did drop our 501-c-3 but still a New Mexico Non - Profit. Oddly, now it seems the Sheriff is working with a neighbor instead, to lure my animals and other neighbor's animals out to the road and capture them there in front of this neighbors gated property. This is the same neighbor that called in a complaint to United States Humane Society with a photo of my property from their outdoor staircase. At that time the Animal Control officer Tafoya was given access to my property to inspect the animals and found nothing wrong. I posted that report here on ND.
Luring animals to the road could be considered as creating a public nuisance pursuant to https://library.municode.com/nm/sandoval_county/codes/code_of_ordinances?nodeId=CD_ORD_CH14EN_ARTIINU_S14-27PUNU .
For my part, I have always deeply enjoyed helping my community and I always will. No one at Placitas Animal Rescue receives compensation of any kind.
