Update on the kitty with a missing leg.
She was seen by a vet at SNIP Society today (thank you so much for getting us in) and not only is she pregnant again, she is about to give birth. Since none of us feel comfortable aborting fully developed kittens, we will have to wait for her leg surgery until the kittens are weaned. The wound has healed well enough on its own that we don't have to worry about it getting worse.
When I got into my car after the vet visit, I cried. It is overwhelming and heartbreaking to see this over and over again. This girl is tiny, about 10 months old, and this will be her third litter this summer. She doesn't deserve this. She deserves to be a kitten, playing around and doing things that kittens do. Thankfully she is now safe and will never have to go through this again.
I ended up naming her Hattie. It's the hockey fan in me. Hattie has been eating a lot and will eat even more once the babies are here. Kitten food has the most nutrients for a nursing mom, so if anyone would like to help this girl out, please send some wet kitten food.
*We received $70 towards Hattie's leg surgery so far, but will now wait until she's ready to do a fundraiser.
ANOTHER UPDATE
The cat that was stuck between the floor and ceiling is safe. The man's ex wife stopped by the house the following day and the kitty came out for her. She took her home with her.
UPDATE ON THE ABANDONED CATS.
The two boys, Siamese and tuxedo, are safe with Feline Fine Cat Rescue as of this morning. A huge thank you to Kat for taking them in! However, as I was dropping off carriers there last night, the person helping out asked me if I wanted to go into the house to meet the cats. I initially said "no", but then went in anyway. And it's a good thing I did. After we were in there for a while, talking, we heard faint meows coming from somewhere in the house. The woman's son came over and we combed the house, looking in every room, cabinet, and drawer of dressers that were left behind. Nothing. Just when we were about to give up, the son asked me if a cat can get up into the ceiling because there are spots in the basement where the joist are exposed. We went back down and it turned out that the entire ceiling in the laundry room is exposed. The basement door was closed for a long time and this kitty was trapped. We decided to leave food to see what would happen, and closed the door to the basement again so that the boys couldn't go down there. The food was gone this morning. After the boys were removed from the house, the neighbor opened the door to the basement. She will keep checking all day to see if the kitty comes up to her, but if not, I will drop off a trap tonight and we will set it. I am so glad I went in and that this kitty asked for help. It would have died in there otherwise.
Here's a video the neighbor took of the boys playing with toys I gave her for them. As you can see, the house has been emptied and only the cats were left behind.
Tinley, the feral cat that was living under my deck, was neutered, vaccinated, ear tipped, and microchipped yesterday. Thank you so much, Dale Trackman Nelson, for sponsoring his TNR, and thank you South Suburban Humane Society for getting him in. He will be released later today.
This boy loves his food and screams like this when it's meal time. He will continue to get good food while he's living outside.
We have the five kittens that were living outside, and they are much smaller than what they looked like in photos. In fact, they are tiny for their age, with the smallest one weighing only 9.5 ounces. Their bellies appear to be full of worms so they were already started on a dewormer. Baths are next. I will update soon.
In the meantime, we can use some kitten milk replacer and wet kitten food.
Happy #caturday! We wanted to do a follow-up post to let everyone know that Kona is doing great during her FIP treatment. She hasn't had any seizures since she started on the meds, and she gained back all of the weight she had lost. We're just a bit past a halfway mark in her treatment, so we will be repeating bloodwork to make sure everything is good on that end. Check out the video of Kona loving on Sharky.
And if you need another reason to adopt Sharky, here it is! Please share him to help him find his humans. He is absolutely the best!
PS: Sharky's fosters recently adopted a young Great Pyrenees so he is now also used to a big dog.
I know I haven't posted here in a while, and I will update on that soon. In the meantime, I have a big ask for one of our kittens.
🚫 Video may be difficult for some to watch 🚫
One of the spicy black beans, Kona, has neurological dry FIP. A few days ago, she lost her appetite and started having seisure-like episodes. Thinking it could be toxoplasmosis she was prescribed Clindamycin on Monday, but after not seeing any improvement, her fosters had her back to the vet on Friday. By then, she was running a 104° fever. We decided to do a full blood panel, as well as a toxicology screening, and should have the results by Monday. In the meantime, I reached out to our FIP Warriors administrator, showed her videos of Kona, and she suggested that we start treatment immediately. It took a huge team effort last night, but we were able to secure meds, and Kona received her first injection! We are just at the beginning of a long (84 days) journey that will be physically tough on Kona, emotionally rough on her fosters and me, and expensive.
I am hoping that we can count on all of you to help us save this little girl. She is only six months old. Every dollar helps to purchase more medication (estimated to cost about $1,500) and cover future vet visits. If you are able to donate, please use PayPal or Venmo as we will need the funds to be readily accessible to purchase more meds.

A huge THANK YOU to Tracee (who rescued the kittens and their mom) for covering the cost of Friday's vet visit.
This Christmas gift from Aurora's (Luna) adoptive family was a huge hit with the cat lounge crew 🥰
Meet Fuzzball, a feral cat I've been working with for the past six weeks. We're still far from him moving into the main lounge, but we are making progress.
The new toy I brought in to the cat lounge is getting a lot of attention.
Have you ever wondered what goes on at the cat lounge late at night?
The top spot on the cat tree is a favorite of both,
Casper and Choo Choo. They are obviously happy to share it.

Thank you to Monique for sending us this awesome video from her visit to the cat lounge today! #catlounge #CatLife #rescuecats #kittensforadoption
Breakfast at the cat lounge 😺
We are short on canned cat and kitten food, which we feed for dinner, if anyone would be willing to send some our way.
