I should also thank my brother for driving us all over while on this hunting trip. Also for the experience of changing a water pump at 8500 ft elevation. Also the tire shop in Gunnison for pulling the 20 penny nail out of my truck tire.

Had a great time Deer hunting this year and got a new hunting partner. My 13 year old granddaughter went on her first big game hunt and harvested a doe with 1 shot. Photo showes her helping pack out my buck that I harvested on the last day. She is welcome in my camp anytime.

As has happened so many times hunters are cutting their capes wrong resulting into buying replacements. There are multiple YouTube videos showing where to make the proper cuts. Watch a few different ones to get the best idea. It all starts with proper field care witch starts with caping. No need to do the whole head if you can get it to the taxidermist in a reasonable time frame. Skinning as close to the head before cutting the neck off is appreciated as all that neck meat is added trash, same goes for unneeded hide, which if cut wrong can't be added back on.

Finally got more tanning back so for those that have been patiantly waiting I will be mounting all my shoulder mounts from last year in the next 2 weeks. Bear rugs from last year should be done also. I always like to start off the new season with a clean slate, (doesn't always happen). Jan- March rugs should be done Sept - Nov. I do have a 3rd season Deer tag this year so I might be unavailable during that time.

Called in sick to work for a couple days and went camping. Not all the Elk and Deer died over the winter.

It never seems to amaze me when some one calls checking on a mount that they have been waiting for over 18 months. 1st they don't now who they left it with (not me) and waiting that long? I give a receipt for everything as I expect most do. So why would anybody not keep this? 2nd if they were told 18 months why would they want to wait that long? My turn around is usually 8 months.

Well now that our major big game seasons are over (except eastern plains) I want to thank all of my customers. It was nice meeting new clients and seeing repeat clients. It was a good year and it sounded like most hunters were seeing a lot of game this year which is a good thing.

Ok you Bear hunters, remember that you have to have them inspected by CPW, and they will most likely be closed Sat, Sunday & Monday so maybe give them a call to figure out how you are going to get them inspected. Temps are expected to be in the 100 range and they do not last.
