DID YOU KNOW ....
The Dachshund or doxie, as it is affectionately nicknamed—is a very old breed, as documented records of them date as far back as the 1500s. These pictures represent them from 1875 to now.
They are descended from the German schweisshund, of which they are a shorter-legged version. The smooths are believed to be the original dogs. The Dachshund was also crossed with terrier and spaniel breeds to not only gain certain hunting qualities but also the wirehaired and longhaired coat types.

Do you know what these two have in common?

While dachshunds are now considered loving pets they were original bred to hunt badgers.

Dachshunds were originally bred in Germany centuries ago to hunt badgers. The name "Dachshund" is German for "badger dog", and their short legs and narrow bodies give them the ability to track scents and crawl into badger burrows. Dachshunds are also known for being brave and fierce, even though they are small in size.

Badgers are nocturnal, ground-burrowing carnivores with thick skin and skulls, sharp teeth, and claws, making them well-prepared to fight off intruders. In fact, breeders were so successful at creating fearless dachshunds that they would sometimes send packs of them to take down wild boar.

Dachshunds' hunting skills also extend to other types of vermin, such as rabbits, rats, and other rodents. Their keen sense of smell, persistence, and agility make them excellent hunters of smaller game, and they have been used on farms and in homes for centuries to control pest populations.

I want friendships that aren’t fragile. I want people in my life where the connection between us isn’t delicate—where it isn’t easily broken. Where you trust me and I trust you and things are talked out.
I don’t want bad with anyone. I don’t want bitterness, or anger, or awkwardness when we see each other. I can’t handle any of that “are we speaking? Are we not speaking? Are we friends? Are we cool face to face, but behind my back you’re spitting fire and bringing my name down?”
I’m full. Motherhood is a mental workout all day, every day. Adulthood in general is pretty stressful. Bills and work and deadlines and all of that business.
I don’t want drama. Not now. Not tomorrow. Not even in tiny doses. None. If you throw it my way, I hate to disappoint you, but I will not even attempt to catch it.
I don’t want chaos, or turmoil, or any of that. I don’t want gossip. I don’t want to hear secrets that may or may not even be true. I mean…I’ll keep your secrets for sure, but I’m just going to extend compassion and assume everybody is doing the best they possibly can.
And I’ve learned that sometimes it’s not really about keeping the peace. It’s about creating peace. It’s about apologizing. It’s about maturity.
It’s about knowing that even when I give my best, not everyone will appreciate it, want it, or like it. It’s about loving them and letting them go from there.
I know I’m a mess sometimes and I’m insecure and prideful and I make so many mistakes. I’m
So imperfect. I just…….I just want peace.

THIS RIGHT HERE! This is not an EASY job! You are lucky if find a great breeder that is responsible and takes excellent care of the dogs. One that is informative and there for you even after you take your puppy home. I give up vacations and many other things to here with my puppies and dogs. It is my choice and I love my dachshunds but it is HARD work! It is not just putting two dogs together and making puppies!

Please Read and maybe this will help you understand more about breeding. :)

POTENTIAL OWNER: How much is the puppy?
BREEDER: $2800 USD
POTENTIAL OWNER: What?? It's way too expensive!!
BREEDER: What do you think would be a good price?
POTENTIAL OWNER: No more than $500. You breeders are so over priced.
BREEDER: I am sorry you see it this way, why don't you try it yourself?
POTENTIAL OWNER: But I've never done it!
BREEDER: For FREE I can teach you how to do it, and in addition you will have the knowledge to do it again.
POTENTIAL OWNER: Perfect, thank you!
BREEDER: To start you will need a female (average minimal cost $1500 and up). Also a male (average minimal cost $1500 and up) or semen (average $1000 and up). You will need to do genetic & health testing on them, averages about $750 per dog. Raise and provide daily care and feeding for 2 years before ever producing a litter.
POTENTIAL OWNER: But I don't have that much money...
BREEDER: I have a deal for you...for $500 you can raise a litter for me and then keep one of the puppies. Obviously, you also have to pay the cost of whelping & care.
POTENTIAL OWNER: I can do that.
BREEDER: OK so I have a female due to whelp in 5 weeks. You will need to be available 24/7 around the clock for at least 8 weeks to help with delivery and care. Possibly tube or bottle feed puppies every 2-3 hours if the mom is low on milk the first couple weeks.
POTENTIAL OWNER: Eight weeks?? it's way too much time for me! I have to work.
BREEDER: You may also need the reproductive vet to do xrays ($200-$500), possibly progesterone testing ($75-$250) & a C-section ($1000-$5000) and initial vet care on pups until old enough to be placed. Pups vets exams ($250 and up depending on how many puppies are in the litter).
Have on hand a scale, thermometer, latex gloves, sanitizer, absorbent tissues, scissors, hemostats, heating pad, whelping box, blankets, cleaning supplies, appropriate food with supplements for mothers, formula, medications & hand feeding supplies in case of emergency....
POTENTIAL OWNER: But I don't have all these things!
BREEDER: For $1000 you can buy them.
POTENTIAL OWNER: Ummm .... You know, I think it might be better if I just buy a puppy.
BREEDER: Wise decision.
For us breeders there are no vacations or holidays. While you go to visit with family & friends we are home at our dogs side caring for them. No sick leave. It is a no breaks commitment.
THIS IS THE REALITY
When you choose a professional, you don't only pay for the puppy but also:
Tools, knowledge, experience, love, time, sacrifices, etc.
