February is National Bird Feeder month! The holiday started in 1994 because it was thought that February is one of the toughest months of the year for birds to survive, so it was encouraged to help feed birds during this time.
Right now we have some early arrivals returning birds to the area that you can find at your feeders! Before you start feeding them, there is much to consider when selecting the right Bird feeder for your yard. Having a bird feeder can be fun to have for the family. It will require some maintenance, make sure it’s in a safe location away from your dog can reach the dropped seeds & safer for the birds so they don’t feel threatened by your dog.
Maintenance is not only important for the birds but for your dogs since birds are messy eaters and will drop many seeds on the ground. However, seeds that are old or become damp may breed mold and bacteria, which can be very harmful for a dog to consume. Since the old bird seed can develop Aflatoxin, salmonella, molds, bacteria if left exposed on the ground. Cleaning up of the fallen seeds, cleaning the feeder so it doesn’t harbor bacteria, and replacing with fresh seed often. Bird seed mixes can also be harmful for your dog if the contain grapes, raisins, almonds or other toxic items for dogs. Consider what you will be feeding and what species will feed.

Last week we stopped our Doctor hours early due to some emergencies. This was one of them. Chilindrina had some troubles giving birth so our amazing Doctors and Staff sprang into action to perform an emergency c-section.

Some of you may remember our super senior kitty Gerald who was looking for a home last summer. After several months and lots of shares but no adoption applications, our Client Service Representative Brianna offered to foster him. Flash forward a few months and we are excited to announce Gerald is officially adopted!
