We wanted to let our pet parents know that we will be closed on Monday, May 27th in observance of Memorial Day. We will return with our normal business hours Tuesday, May 28th.
As we kick off Memorial Day weekend please keep some pet safety tips in mind!
Keep alcohol and table scraps away from your pet
Never leave your pet unsupervised around bodies of water
Keep your pet hydrated
Limit time in the sun and heat
Keep your pet away from fireworks
Make sure your pet has an ID tag or is microchipped

In honor of National Rescue Dog Day, we want to spotlight our adoptable dog Ruby Rose, who has been patiently waiting for her forever home since November!
She was found near the forest preserve by the local police department, leading us to suspect she might have been deliberately abandoned rather than simply lost. Despite this challenging start, Ruby holds no grudges and is eager to find her forever home! She is around 2.5 years old and 47 pounds. Ruby is spayed, vaccinated, and ready to join a loving family. Ruby's playful nature and loving demeanor make her an absolute joy to be around.

Our journey to introduce you to our exceptional DVM team concludes with Dr. Michelle Daviou, our accomplished Medical Director.
Background: Originally from a small town in upstate New York, Dr. Daviou sought independence and new experiences. Her journey to veterinary medicine began with a transformative experience during a medical relief trip abroad while in college, where she witnessed the close bond between humans and animals and the impact of diseases that can be transmitted between them. Inspired, she shifted her focus from studying human medicine to pursuing a career in veterinary medicine. After completing her undergraduate studies at the University of Michigan and earning her veterinary degree from Purdue University, Dr. Daviou decided to settle in Chicago, drawn by the vibrancy of city life. Joining the Countryside Veterinary Center team in 2014, she has been an integral part of the hospital since its opening. In 2018, Dr. Daviou assumed the role of Medical Director, emphasizing a culture that prioritizes exceptional veterinary care and the well-being of the team. She plays a vital role in guiding DVMs toward efficiency and confidence in their practice.
Professional Passion: Dr. Daviou finds immense fulfillment in the clinical aspects of her role, particularly in working directly with her feline and canine patients, as well as their devoted owners. She considers it a privilege to be entrusted with nurturing the bond between pets and their caregivers. As the Medical Director, Dr. Daviou also takes great joy in supporting aspiring veterinarians and young professionals as they navigate their careers in the field. Her commitment to fostering excellence and championing work-life balance is reflected in her mentorship approach.
Family, Pets, and Personal Interests: Dr. Daviou's household includes her supportive husband and their two young sons who fill their days with joy amongst the chaos. Pictured with Dr. Daviou are their two wonderfully loyal dogs, Avo and Quest. Avo, a Bouvier, Great Pyrenees, Newfoundland mix, recently crossed the rainbow bridge after 15 years as Dr. Daviou's steadfast companion. He accompanied her through various stages of life, serving as a loving big brother to their children. Quest, a 7-year-old Goldendoodle, holds a special place in Dr. Daviou's heart after treating her as a puppy while Quest was hospitalized with parvo along with her littermates. She is known for her sweet nature and affectionate demeanor. Outside of her veterinary career, Dr. Daviou and her family are avid travelers, having explored destinations such as Colombia, Turkey, Greece, Switzerland, and Spain. Dr. Daviou also has recently started relearning to play the piano and looks forward to sharing this passion with her boys as they grow older.
Dr. Daviou's commitment to offering gold-standard medicine is matched only by her honest and direct communication with clients and colleagues alike.

A**l glands are located on the rear of dogs and cats. The glands produce an oily, fishy-smelling fluid that helps with scent marking. Sometimes these glands can get impacted or infected.
Soft, consistent stool, as well as allergies, are common causes of irritation. If your pet is scooting, licking excessively, or showing signs of discomfort around their rear end, contact us! We will help to identify the cause and determine best course of treatment.

February is National Bird Feeder month! The holiday started in 1994 because it was thought that February is one of the toughest months of the year for birds to survive, so it was encouraged to help feed birds during this time. Right now we have some early arrivals returning birds to the area that you can find at your feeders! Before you start feeding them, there is much to consider when selecting the right Bird feeder for your yard. Having a bird feeder can be fun to have for the family. It will require some maintenance, make sure it’s in a safe location away from your dog can reach the dropped seeds & safer for the birds so they don’t feel threatened by your dog. Maintenance is not only important for the birds but for your dogs since birds are messy eaters and will drop many seeds on the ground. However, seeds that are old or become damp may breed mold and bacteria, which can be very harmful for a dog to consume. Since the old bird seed can develop Aflatoxin, salmonella, molds, bacteria if left exposed on the ground. Cleaning up of the fallen seeds, cleaning the feeder so it doesn’t harbor bacteria, and replacing with fresh seed often. Bird seed mixes can also be harmful for your dog if the contain grapes, raisins, almonds or other toxic items for dogs. Consider what you will be feeding and what species will feed. Chilindrina had some troubles giving birth so our amazing Doctors and Staff sprang into action to perform an emergency c-section. Chilindrina now has 7 adorable tiny puppies! Congratulations Chilindrina & Family!
