Luna and Hennessy are two reactive dogs that are soon to become housemates. When Kay first started working with them, they couldn’t see each other from across a football field without a big display of emotions. Now they are learning to relax happily in each other’s presence, in their own front yard. The key to their success is working at the dog’s pace, rewarding relaxed behaviors, and working within their ability to stay calm and focused. So proud of both teams! #dogtrainingwashington #puyallupwa #cascadecanine #puyallup #dogsoftacoma #253 #tacomawa #universityplacewa #tacomasmallbusinesses #piercecountywa #southsound #tacomadogs
Social play builds trust, rapport, communication, and skills! Legend enjoys being as close to humans as possible. We play “dog catcher” together and he comes back for more over and over! #playwithyourdog #dogtrainingwashington #puyallupwa #cascadecanine #puyallup #dogsoftacoma #253 #tacomawa #universityplacewa #tacomasmallbusinesses #piercecountywa #southsound #tacomadogs
Sweetpea has been working on waiting at intersections. With her two bionic knees, it’s not appropriate to ask her to sit over and over again – we really just want her to stay put until released. She’s nailing it! #dogtrainingwashington #puyallupwa #cascadecanine #puyallup #dogsoftacoma #253 #tacomawa #universityplacewa #tacomasmallbusinesses #piercecountywa #southsound #tacomadogs
Ruthie is working on her down and recall! We have moved to using a whistle as her recall cue, followed by a quick extra fun game of tug as a reward because that is what Ruthie loves most. She has learned that a whistle means that a toy is available, so she better come quick to the party! #dogtrainingwashington #puyallupwa #cascadecanine #puyallup #dogsoftacoma #253 #tacomawa #universityplacewa #tacomasmallbusinesses #piercecountywa #southsound #tacomadogs
Luna is a total overachiever! Just look at this “place” behavior! So much enthusiasm! #dogtrainingwashington #puyallupwa #cascadecanine #puyallup #dogsoftacoma #253 #tacomawa #universityplacewa #tacomasmallbusinesses #piercecountywa #southsound #tacomadogs
Maggie was previously so anxious and hyper vigilant out in the world that she could barely engage with me. She moved fast only on the way back home. Drooling, lip licking. The anxiety of seeing another dog ended any positive feelings about a walk.
She has come so far!! This week she is actually PLAYING out on a walk! And laying down to chew or take a break! No more head on a swivel, she trots to her favorite spots. And this is after having seen crows and dogs and a lawnmower! #dogtrainingwashington #puyallupwa #cascadecanine #puyallup #dogsoftacoma #253 #tacomawa #universityplacewa #tacomasmallbusinesses #piercecountywa #southsound #tacomadogs

Grab your long line, muzzle, clicker and treats, and go outside with your dog. Celebrate the wins, getting outside, practicing check ins, recalls, and sniffing. Accept that accidents might happen, and be prepared to help your dog through it, then move on. Its ok to have a reactive dog. Its ok to ask for space. Go enjoy your dog wherever you are in your training journey. #253 #253dogs #pnwpups #pnwdogs #southsound #reactivedogs #tacomawa #puyallupwa #dogguardian

Touch is the number one thing we train all dogs. The behavior is simple, the dog touches their nose to your hand or object to the cue ‘touch’. We love this one for teaching a great recall, but we can also use it to teach loose leash walking, heel, a plethora of tricks, and even for service work. Here you can Kay working with 5 month old (he’s just a baby!) Suli on touch as a recall behavior. They’ve also used it to work on heel, and is a great foundation behavior for his future service work where he will perform a lot of stability tasks.

In a distracting new location, Annie is practicing recall with social play as a reinforcer! We mix it up with food, toy play, and other things that she finds valuable.
Genius dog toy alert! Tug toy on a bungee attached to a tree means constant tugging action for your dog, a great way to get some energy out (without tiring out your arms)!
When all you want in life is good belly rub ☺️
